This lattice exhibits three completely flat, non-dispersive bands in the band structure in the absence of magnetic flux due to destructive interference in the electron hoppings, leading to the emergence of compact localized states (CLS). These CLS are analytically constructed and exhibit real-space confinement of the electrons, arising solely due to the lattice's geometrical frustration. It has been shown that these FBs are very robust against the introduction of weak random onsite disorder in the system. By tuning the uniform magnetic flux threaded through the diamond plaquettes, we demonstrate a tunable evolution of the band structure and show that certain bands develop nontrivial topological features with nonzero integer values of the Chern number. Additionally, we have computed the multi-terminal transport properties for this 2D lattice system, which display the flux-tunable resonances and transmission suppression linked to the FBs, establishing a clear interplay between the localization, topology, and transport. Our findings put forward the diamond-dodecagon lattice as a robust and tunable platform for studying the FB physics and magnetic flux-controlled topological phenomena, offering promising experimental feasibility in photonic lattices and ultracold atomic systems.</p>","PeriodicalId":520686,"journal":{"name":"Journal of physics. Our detailed study reveals symmetry-protected spin-1 Weyl and charge-2 Dirac topological phonon states in the phonon spectrum, as well as nonzero phonon angular momentum, thereby confirming their chiral nature. Interestingly, the electronic states exhibit multiple types of topological fermionic states under spin-orbit coupling. Moreover, a close examination of the density of states reveals van Hove singularities (VHSs)near the Fermi level, which may indicate possible superconductivity and warrant further experimental studies. However, precise descriptions of the Holstein polaron are difficult when the phonon frequency is small and the electron-phonon coupling is strong, due to the presence of many phonons in the ground-state. We present a semi-analytical approximation that consists of a variational ansatz with clouds of phonons surrounding the electron in the form of coherent states. This becomes particularly simple and exact in the Lang-Firsov limit. We determine the domain of validity away from this limit, and further explore the improvement achieved with a removal of the requirement that the phonon clouds form coherent states. Both approximations work extremely well for the ground-state energy at strong coupling, and both work surprisingly well also at weak-coupling. For the effective mass, however, both approximations have difficulty, particularly in the crossover region. Moreover, the coherent-state ansatz (CSA) retains an unphysical jump in the crossover region. Nonetheless, the CSA provides a simple and intuitive picture of the polaron ground-state wavefunction, and in addition predicts accurate values for the ground-state energy.</p>","PeriodicalId":520686,"journal":{"name":"Journal of physics. We derive an effective microstretch theory for these modes starting from nonlinear elasticity on a cylindrical surface. By linearizing the equation of motion around a uniformly twisted equilibrium configuration, we obtain the dynamical matrix for the twisting, longitudinal, and radial-breathing modes. This matrix coincides with that of a one-dimensional microstretch theory, and the corresponding elastic constants are expressed in terms of the Lamé constants, the nanotube radius, and the twist rate. The twist generates chiral couplings in the effective theory, which hybridize the three modes and open an anticrossing in the phonon dispersion. We also discuss the relation between this twist-induced mechanism and intrinsic chirality in chiral nanotubes, where symmetry allows analogous effective chiral couplings even without an externally applied twist. These results provide a microscopic basis for the microstretch description of phonons in twisted carbon nanotubes and clarify how structural chirality enters the effective couplings.</p>","PeriodicalId":520686,"journal":{"name":"Journal of physics. In this research, we systematically investigate the structural, elastic, electronic, and optical properties of cubic intermetallic SrSn3, using first-principles density functional theory. Our calculations establish the dynamical stability of SrSn3and reveal a semimetallic electronic structure featuring Dirac-like linear band crossings near the Fermi level, accompanied by a remarkably soft mechanical response that contrasts strongly with the comparatively brittle CaSn3. SrSn3exhibits an exceptionally low Pugh's ratio (<i>G</i>/<i>B</i>= 0.19), a low Vickers hardness (<i>Hv</i>= 0.54 GPa), and nearly isotropic elastic behavior, indicating a pronounced ductile tendency and strong mechanical compliance. The electronic structure features robust linear band crossings along the Γ-X and R-X high-symmetry directions, with substantial contributions from the hybridization of Sr-3d and Sn-5p states. These electronic characteristics are accompanied by a pronounced broadband optical response, including an infrared plasmon resonance, high optical conductivity, and strong interband absorption exceeding 105cm-1across broad regions of the visible-to-ultraviolet spectrum. Furthermore, strain-dependent calculations demonstrate that the electronic states and optical characteristics, including absorption edges and plasmonic features, can be systematically modulated within the investigated strain range of -4% to +4%. The combination of Dirac-like semimetallic behavior, exceptional mechanical compliance, and strain-tunable optical functionality highlights SrSn3as a promising platform for flexible photodetectors, wearable optoelectronics, and mechanically deformable quantum-device architectures.</p>","PeriodicalId":520686,"journal":{"name":"Journal of physics. In an earlier analysis, one of us predicted that the diagonal Born-Oppenheimer correction (DBOC) generated a sharp barrier in the potential-energy surface, localised low-lying phonon states on either side of the transition point, and produced a pronounced hardening of the phonon modes. Here we ask whether this enhanced coupling survives in the exact coupled electron-phonon problem. We solve the full model by direct diagonalisation, obtaining the exact coupled electron-phonon excitation spectrum, and analyse its ground state using the parametric representation of the electron-nuclear wavefunction. We find that the exact solution recovers the adiabatic picture obtained by including the DBOC when the electronic levels are well separated, but that this picture is progressively smoothed and weakened as the electronic and phononic energy scales become comparable. In the near-degenerate regime, the exact solution crosses over to a diabatic description. Thus, the associated localisation and phonon-hardening signatures are not artefacts of the BO approximation, but survive in renormalised form in the exact theory when the electronic levels remain sufficiently well separated.</p>","PeriodicalId":520686,"journal":{"name":"Journal of physics. alone. Motivated by recent atomic-resolution studies of α-In2Se3, where head-to-head walls contain
a nonpolar β-like intercalated layer whereas tail-to-tail walls remain atomically abrupt, we develop
a material-scale effective-band-edge theory for transverse domain-wall bound states. The material
input is used as deliberately broad consistency windows, not as a direct fit to digitized density-
functional or spectroscopic band-edge profiles. The smooth sector is exactly solvable: a lowest-order
local band-edge ansatz reduces neutral walls to the Pöschl-Teller class and charged walls to the
asymmetric Rosen-Morse class. This yields closed-form spectra, wave-function skewness, and exact
delocalization boundaries. The same solution gives a useful constraint on smooth confinement:
states near the localization boundary collapse onto the lower continuum edge, so smooth band
bending alone does not, within the material windows considered here, simultaneously reproduce
the HH depth, width, and center locking. We then add the minimal HH structural correction,
represented by a central short-range β-layer lowering, and analyze both its δ-layer limit and finite-
width implementations. Material-scale anchoring to effective masses, nanometer-scale wall widths,
and structural energy scales relevant to α-In2Se3 supports a branch-selective picture: the abrupt
TT wall is naturally described as a shallow hole-like effective band-bending channel, whereas the
reconstructed HH wall is described by an electron-like smooth baseline supplemented by a central
β-layer lowering. The theory provides a compact intermediate description connecting atomistic
charged-wall reconstruction to mesoscopic one-dimensional confinement.</p>","PeriodicalId":520686,"journal":{"name":"Journal of physics.
