Although lead (Pb)-based halide perovskites have shown exceptional power conversion efficiency and superior photoluminescence properties, environmental concerns about Pb toxicity have prompted research into Pb-free alternatives. Fortunately, among the Pb-free candidates, tin (Sn)-based halide perovskites (Sn-HPs) have emerged as potential candidates. Sn-HPs have an optimal bandgap, high charge carrier mobility, and long-lived hot carriers. However, the inherent instability of Sn2+, which readily oxidizes to Sn4+, poses significant challenges, leading to unintentional p-type doping, thereby degrading perovskites solar cells performance. Despite these challenges, recent progress in the stabilization of Sn2+, improvement of thin-film quality, and advancement in device engineering has significantly enhanced the performance and reliability of Sn-HPs. In this review, we systematically discuss the fundamental photophysical properties and strategies to mitigate intrinsic defects in tin halide perovskites across various structural modifications. Furthermore, advanced spectroscopic techniques, such as time-resolved spectroscopy, ultrafast transient absorption, and hot-carrier (HC) dynamics, enhance understanding of fundamental carrier dynamics and the potential of HC-based optoelectronic devices. Subsequently, we present recent advancements in achieving stable and efficient performance in light-emitting diodes, photodetectors, and PV technology, and provide perspectives on future developments.</p>","PeriodicalId":520686,"journal":{"name":"Journal of physics. Here, we combine first-principles calculations, an effectivemodel, and crystal-field analysis to develop a unified physical picture of biaxial-strain-driven topological phase transitions in the Janus ferrovalley monolayer FeClBr. First-principles calculations reveal a complete phase-transition sequence. A strain-dependent two-bandmodel yields the condition for topological nontriviality-opposite signs of the renormalized band gaps at the two valleys-reproducing the full five-stage sequence within a minimal framework. Crystal-field analysis further identifies the microscopic origin: strain, through symmetry-selective modulation, drives orbital inversion, while spin-orbit coupling imparts valley-dependent effective-gap shifts that cause the inversions to occur at different critical strains, opening a topologically nontrivial window between them. Our work establishes a complete causal chain from strain to topology and offers general design guidelines for engineering topological valley-polarized states in related 2D magnetic materials.</p>","PeriodicalId":520686,"journal":{"name":"Journal of physics. Their buckled honeycomb structure and strong spin-orbit coupling allow for bandgap engineering via a perpendicular electric field, leading to topological phase transitions (TPTs) from non-trivial to trivial insulating states. However, precise determination of the critical electric fieldat which these transitions occur remains challenging, with tight-binding (TB) models often underestimating these values. Here, we present a first-principles framework that combines density-functional theory, maximally localized Wannier functions, and evolution of the Wannier charge centers to accurately characterize TPTs in silicene, germanene, and stanene through thetopological invariant. In contrast to earlier work, at each electric-field strength we run fully self-consistent<i>ab initio</i>simulations to obtain the screened electronic structure, accounting for the material's dielectric response from both electrons and ions. From these converged results we construct a Wannier TB Hamiltonian at each electric field strength, which then enables a gauge-invariant calculation of thetopological invariant. This methodology yields significantly more accurate numerical predictions of-andfor silicene and germanene, respectively-and provides deeper insight into the interplay between electronic structure and topological order. Compared to previous approaches, our framework delivers a marked quantitative improvement for predicting topological phase boundaries, essential for guiding the design of topological field-effect transistors and electrostatically controlled quantum devices based on two-dimensional materials.</p>","PeriodicalId":520686,"journal":{"name":"Journal of physics. In this work, we present local density-of-states maps that reveal a distinctly striped electronic structure. These stripes run in a slight zigzag course that is oriented almost orthogonally to the nanowires, which are visible in scanning tunneling microscopy images. Power law exponents extracted from a large number of different measurements agree with predictions for a TLL. Furthermore, exponents obtained from channel ends are significantly enhanced, an additional hallmark of a TLL. Over the past century, researchers have developed various vapor pressure models based on theory, semi-empirical methods, corresponding states principles, and data-driven approaches. However and unfortunately, they have always faced a trade-off between accuracy and generalizability. In this work, we present a systematic review of the current research in the prediction of vapor pressure. Firstly, we categorize and summarize the four main types of existing vapor pressure models, analyzing their theoretical bases and ranges of applicability. Secondly, by evaluating these models against a comprehensive database of 629 compounds, we expose the shortcomings of each approach. For example, the empirical equations achieve very high accuracy but rely heavily on fitted experimental data. The corresponding state models are relatively general, but offer only limited accuracy. And the emerging graph neural network models remain in their early stages, showing poor adherence to thermodynamic constraints and requiring further improvements in modeling. To surmount the current bottleneck, we believe that the crucial approach lies in organically incorporating physical knowledge into machine learning algorithms, which in turn facilitates the construction of novel models with intrinsic satisfaction of thermodynamic constraints. We envision that future efforts will yield a new generation of vapor pressure models combining high accuracy with generalizability, thereby being applied to the accurate and precise prediction of the vapor pressure of different types of substances.</p>","PeriodicalId":520686,"journal":{"name":"Journal of physics. Analytical solutions for the positron lifetime spectrum and the mean positron lifetime are derived taking into account concomitant transition-limited positron trapping at intragranular point defects. Despite the two-dimensional nature of the diffusion-reaction problem, single-sum expressions could be deduced for the characteristic positron annihilation parameters. The relevant limiting cases are considered, i.e. entirely reaction-limitation, yielding the solution of standard rate theory, entirely diffusion-limitation as well as entirely reaction-limitation in one direction when the extension of the rectangular column in this direction is much shorter than in the other. The present model contains the known solution for the platelet structure as the limiting case of infinite extension of the rectangular cross-section in one direction. In the regime of reaction-controlled trapping, the positron trapping rate at GBs is determined by the ratio between perimeter and cross-section of the columnar-shaped grains. Besides this geometric ratio, the shape of the columns (square-, rectangular-, cylindrical-shaped) becomes relevant, when positron trapping rate at GBs is in addition diffusion-limited.</p>","PeriodicalId":520686,"journal":{"name":"Journal of physics. Here, using first-principles calculations, we demonstrate that the layered triangular-lattice compound KRuOstabilizes a noncoplanar antiferromagnetic state that was previously predicted in a quarter-electron-filled Kondo-lattice model on a triangular lattice. This unconventional chiral magnetic order gives rise to a quantum topological Hall effect (QTHE), namely a quantum anomalous Hall effect driven by noncoplanar spin textures. The resulting topological phase is characterized by a Chern number, which originates from the two RuOlayers in the unit cell. The QTHE phase in KRuOemerges at 1/4 filling, distinct from the 3/4-filled case where the chiral magnetic order arises from perfect Fermi-surface nesting. Furthermore, based on the modern theory of orbital magnetization, we show that the orbital magnetization varies linearly with the Fermi energy within the topological band gap, providing concrete evidence of the chiral edge states associated with the QTHE phase. These findings establish KRuOas a promising material platform for realizing chiral magnetic topological states in quarter-electron-filled triangular-lattice systems and offer guidance for future experimental and theoretical studies of topological chiral antiferromagnets.</p>","PeriodicalId":520686,"journal":{"name":"Journal of physics. Herein, we propose the concept of zero-net-magnetization hybrid magnet, in which magnetic atoms with opposite spin polarization are partially coupled via spatial inversion () symmetry, partially via rotation/mirror () symmetry or partially without any symmetry correlation. From a local perspective and neglecting the interactions between local regions, hybrid magnet can be regarded as being composed of-antiferromagnet (possessing the combined symmetry () ofand time-reversal ()), altermagnet, or fully compensated ferrimagnet. To realize hybrid magnet, we propose that such system can be constructed by forming heterojunction with three types of zero-net-magnetization magnetic monolayers. We mainly investigate the heterojunction composed of two kinds of zero-net-magnetization magnets, among which one type corresponds to fully compensated ferrimagnet. When heterojunction hybrid magnet exhibits a type-II band alignment, only one of electron doping and hole doping can induce a net magnetic moment, while the other hardly generates any net magnetization. Taking the heterojunction constructed by-antiferromagnet and fully compensated ferrimagnet as an example, we verify our proposal by means of the tight-binding (TB) model. Finally, taking the/heterojunction as an example, we perform first-principles calculations combined with electric field variation to validate our TB model and theoretical proposal.
