This review systematically surveys the current theoretical progress on magnetic Janus monolayers, focusing on their fundamental physical characteristics and emerging quantum phenomena. The review begins by introducing the basic physical properties of typical magnetic Janus systems, including their crystal structures and electronic band structures, followed by a discussion of the underlying magnetic exchange interactions governed by the Heisenberg model and the competition between direct and superexchange couplings. The critical role of magnetic anisotropy energy (MAE) in stabilizing long-range magnetic order against thermal fluctuations, as well as the effects of strain engineering on modulating exchange interactions and MAE, are then examined. Subsequently, several emergent phenomena arising from the broken inversion symmetry of Janus architectures are presented, including piezoelectricity, the quantum anomalous Hall effect (QAHE), and valley polarization. This review aims to provide a structured reference for understanding the current landscape of 2D magnetic Janus monolayers and to offer

Hence skyrmions are regarded as topologically protected attracting large interest concerning applications in data storage, neuromorphic computing, and digital logic. For such kind of applications an extraordinary stability of the skyrmion state against thermal fluctuations is required. In real matter, due to its discrete nature, topological protection translates into the existence of an energy barrier between the skyrmion and the uniform state leading to a finite skyrmion lifetime. Therefore the experimental determination of the skyrmion lifetime becomes important. Within this work we focus on experimental studies of the skyrmion lifetime in a variety of magnetic systems ranging from monolayers to bulk samples. We discuss previous experimental studies on the thermal stability of magnetic skyrmions in systems based on Fe/Ir(111) and in B20-materials. New experimental results on skyrmion nucleation and decay are obtained for thin Ni/Fe-films on Cu(001) using threshold photoemission magnetic circular dichroism in combination with photoemission electron microscopy (TP-MCD-PEEM). In this context, topological superconductors (TSCs) offer a promising arena for investigating Majorana modes in the context of topological quantum computation. In dimension d > 1, the spatial localization profile of the topological Majorana modes can be tuned in higher-order TSC extending beyond the realm of conventional first-order topological superconductor (FOTSC). In this review, we systematically survey the zoo of topological superconductivity, ranging from FOTSCs to third-order topological superconductors (TOTSCs), wherein the spatial dimensionality of Majorana zero modes (MZMs) is progressively reduced. We show that periodic driving protocols enable the Floquet engineering of all the above phases, even when the corresponding undriven systems are topologically trivial. We further investigate various driving schemes and the interplay among spinorbit coupling, magnetic fields, magnetic impurities, and symmetry-breaking mass terms to design Floquet higher-order topological superconducting (FHOTSC) phases, which are characterized by appropriate topological invariants. We extensively discuss the development of invariants that are able to distinguish between regular MZMs and anomalous Majorana π-modes, appearing at two distinct energies, where the latter does not exhibit any static analog.</p>","PeriodicalId":520686,"journal":{"name":"Journal of physics. The systematic blue shift of all Raman modes of MNTO relative to those in MTO is interpreted to result from the reduced lattice parameters of MNTO due to Ni substitution. The smaller magnetic moment of Ni2+relative to that of Mn2+is the likely source of a few % reduction in the observed magnetic transitions (TN∼ 97 K and TS∼ 46 K) of MNTO. The phonon frequencies (ω) and linewidths (Γ) were obtained by fitting each Raman mode with a single Lorentzian profile. For T > TN, the phonon frequencies decrease monotonically while the linewidths broaden with increasing temperatures, these results are well described by a three-phonon anharmonic decay model. With decreasing temperatures below TN, pronounced softening of nearly all Raman modes in MNTO is observed, becoming particularly significant below TSin contrast to MTO, where phonon hardening was reported. These anomalous phonon shifts are attributed to strong spin-phonon coupling (λ), which is positive in MNTO but negative in MTO. The reversal in the sign of λ in MNTO highlights a fundamental modification of the spin-lattice interaction induced by Ni substitution demonstrating that subtle structural changes can profoundly alter the coupling between lattice vibrations and magnetic order in the honeycomb magnetoelectric tantalates.</p>","PeriodicalId":520686,"journal":{"name":"Journal of physics. In this work, the structural, thermal stability, and thermoelectric properties of a novel pentagonal PdAsmonolayer are investigated using density functional theory. The optimized structure is found to be thermally stable and exhibits a direct band gap of 0.80 eV located in the infrared region. The lattice thermal conductivity () is calculated to be 2.26 W (mK)at room temperature 300 K and decreases to 1.0 W (mK)at high temperature 700 K, indicating strong phonon scattering. Carrier relaxation times are estimated using the deformation potential theory of Bardeen and Shockley and subsequently employed within the Boltzmann transport framework to evaluate thermoelectric coefficients. A bipolar effect is identified at elevated temperatures due to the relatively small band gap. The combination of high power factor and low lattice thermal conductivity results in an enhanced thermoelectric figure of merit, with a maximumof 3.0 for n-type doping and 1.2 for p-type doping. These findings demonstrate that penta-PdAsis a promising candidate for high-performance thermoelectric applications. To investigate the microscopic origin of this behavior, we employ dynamic ozone perturbation as a probe of charge propagation in IGZO and compare its response with those of ZnO and In2O3. While the single-oxide systems display pronounced slow relaxation components associated with delayed transport from the surface into the bulk, IGZO exhibits a strongly suppressed slow process, yielding transients that are effectively described by a single characteristic timescale. Raman and photoluminescence spectroscopy reveal defect-related sub-gap states associated with ZnO4structural motifs, suggesting that local structural disorder plays an active role in electronic transport. Besides oxygen-vacancy-related states, the Raman 2LO mode directly points to the involvement of ZnO4-associated defect structures. Rather than representing isolated point defects, these motifs may indicate local coordination distortions that alter the connectivity between neighboring cation environments. Density-functional calculations further show that ozone preferentially adsorbs on In sites, producing localized surface polarization. Partial charge analysis and Wannier-based electronic reconstruction identify an In-O-ZN transport pathway in which orbital-matched ZN-O bridges efficiently relay the surface perturbation into the amorphous network. This identified transport pathway is absent in the corresponding single oxides and provides a direct electronic connection between surface-localized charge accumulation and bulk transport. These results suggest that the enhanced performance of amorphous multiplication oxides extends beyond conventional concepts of band alignment, carrier modulation, and defect engineering. Instead, orbital compatibility between dissimilar cation environments may create emergent transport pathways that qualitatively alter charge propagation. Our findings introduce orbital connectivity as a complementary descriptor for understanding transport in complex amorphous oxide semiconductors.</p>","PeriodicalId":520686,"journal":{"name":"Journal of physics. For a commensurate hopping modulation, the periodic hopping pattern can generate internal boundaries that strongly influence the transmission characteristics. We show that edge, in-band bulk, and band-edge bulk states can be distinguished through their distinct transport signatures. In particular, bulk states near the band edges exhibit transport characteristics similar to those of edge states, with weak dependence on system size, whereas in-band bulk states display pronounced size-dependent oscillations. We further demonstrate that the chain-electrode coupling strength controls the broadening of transmission resonances and drives a crossover from tunneling-dominated to nearly ballistic transport.
