El conjunto arqueologico recuperado esta integrado por restos faunisticos, artefactos liticos y fragmentos de pigmento mineral, resultantes de ocupaciones cazadoras-recolectoras ocurridas durante el Holoceno tardio ( ca . 2800 anos 14 C AP). Se presenta la caracterizacion de la secuencia estratigrafica y los resultados del analisis tecno-morfologico de los artefactos liticos y del estudio zooarqueologico y tafonomico de los restos faunisticos. Los principales objetivos son evaluar la historia tafonomica y los procesos de formacion del conjunto faunistico, identificar los recursos animales explotados y caracterizar la tecnologia litica. Los materiales se encontraban en un deposito fluvio-lacustre, sobre el cual se desarrollo un paleosuelo palustre. En el sitio se llevaron a cabo multiples actividades, incluyendo el procesamiento y consumo de recursos faunisticos y la manufactura, reactivacion y uso de instrumentos liticos. El guanaco fue la presa principal mientras que animales de menor porte constituyeron recursos complementarios. La tecnologia litica se caracteriza por la talla unifacial y el uso preferencial de ortocuarcita dentro de una estrategia de aprovisionamiento de los individuos.","PeriodicalId":51926,"journal":{"name":"Arqueologia","volume":"24 1","pages":"147-171"},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2018-04-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43185814","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"历史学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

El sitio se ubica en la margen norte del estuario de la ria Deseado, en la costa norte de la provincia de Santa Cruz, Patagonia argentina. Se cuenta con dos dataciones radiocarbonicas de 690 ± 70 y 970 ± 50 anos AP. Se excavo un total de 7,25 m 2 y se realizaron diversos analisis: determinaciones anatomicas y taxonomicas, analisis cuantitativos, de preservacion y de distribucion espacial de los materiales faunisticos. Los resultados demuestran que el conjunto posee una alta riqueza taxonomica representada principalmente por pinnipedos, guanacos, aves marinas y terrestres, vertebrados medianos y pequenos y peces, ademas de moluscos entre los que predominan las especies Nacella magellanica y Mytilus edulis . El deposito presenta buenas condiciones de integridad. Se plantea que los restos arqueofaunisiticos serian resultado de las etapas finales de procesamiento y de las actividades de consumo y descarte producidas en el sitio por los grupos cazadores recolectores. El conchero habria sido ocupado por grupos pequenos durante periodos relativamente cortos de tiempo. La composicion y las caracteristicas generales del conjunto arqueofaunistico de UNPA presentan similitudes con otros concheros de la region.","PeriodicalId":51926,"journal":{"name":"Arqueologia","volume":"23 1","pages":"129-152"},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2017-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42334271","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"历史学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The economy of these societies was based mainly on exploiting small-sized species, such as coypu (a rodent), fishes, as well as continental and aquatic birds. Two species of deer were complementary resources. Twenty-five bones from the sites LG1 (n= 4) and LG5 (n= 21) that show indications of human manipulation were subjected to a techno-morphological analysis. The following parameters were considered: material, type of fracture, dimensions and presence/absence of marks; the effects of taphonomic agents and processes on bone surfaces are evaluated as well. Human modification on the bones of several taxa were identified: Aves (n= 4), Rallidae (n= 1), Mammalia (n= 2), Cervidae (n=4), Ozotoceros bezoarticus (n=8), Blastoceros dichotomus (n= 1), Rodentia (n= 1), Rodentia cf. Caviinae (n= 3) and Myocastor coypus (n= 1). On this basis, we characterized the Morphological Groups as, tubes, bevelled tools, points (channelled, semi-channeled, blunt-ended), and those tools not allocated to these groups, were designated as Undetermined. The potential function of these tools is discussed, we propose that bone technology was part of the integral use of faunal resources in the area.","PeriodicalId":51926,"journal":{"name":"Arqueologia","volume":"23 1","pages":"65-90"},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2017-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47613938","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"历史学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although framed at a global scale, the focus is on hunter-gatherer, fisher, and/or small-scale horticulture societies, with special emphasis on Argentina and Southern South America. Aquatic environments are considered here in their broadest sense, including both marine and continental lands, and also still/moving, and shallow/deep bodies of water. After a general summary on the importance of aquatic environments throughout human history, this article focuses on three main topics. First, the different ways, and technological strategies in which humans exploit aquatic landscapes (navigation, use of water, and exploitation of mineral, animal and plant resources). Following, the differences in the use intensity of aquatic environments by humans; in order to categorize this diversity four different variants were defined (punctual use, occasional use, sustained use, and intensive use) for each of which archaeological expectations were defined. Finally, we also review certain relevant aspects connecting aquatic environments to social communication and symbolism.","PeriodicalId":51926,"journal":{"name":"Arqueologia","volume":" ","pages":"11-33"},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2017-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48910379","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"历史学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The site is a rock-shelter which was occupied discontinuously, yet recurrently between c. 1,000 BC – AD 1,600. The site functioned as a temporary shelter associated to interregional mobility. The ceramics recovered from the various occupation layers’ date to the Formative, Regional Development and Indo-Hispanic period. We undertook, a synchronous and diachronic analysis of the material with the aim of contributing to the study of valley’s ceramic production practices, thereby generating data linking the site with other regions. In this manner, the ceramic provenance was discussed, suggesting that there was diferential movement at play between fine and common ceramics throughout the chronological sequence.","PeriodicalId":51926,"journal":{"name":"Arqueologia","volume":"23 1","pages":"11-33"},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2017-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44037732","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"历史学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of this study was to undertake a preliminary analysis of the archaeopalynological assemblage, and thereby provide an insight into the availability of plant resources that might have been used by hunter-gatherers in the past. In so doing, the identification and interpretation of the pollen recovered from the site was carried out. The collated record shows a first pollen zone characterized by the predominance of herbaceous and arboreal-bushes, typical of a xerophilous forest. A second zone was observed around the 470±50 years BP mark. This zone suggests a relative increase in humidity, given the presence of typical vegetal taxa ( v.g. Prosopis sp., Celtis sp. and Syagrus romanzoffiana ) that have intrinsic qualities useful for the human subsistence.","PeriodicalId":51926,"journal":{"name":"Arqueologia","volume":"23 1","pages":"63-80"},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2017-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45171920","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"历史学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
