In agriculture, due to the climate change and the growing global population, causing unprecedented demands and risks on food supplies, intelligent and automatic agricultural technologies are critical needs. UAVs offer a wide range of applications to transform traditional agricultural practices into Agriculture 4.0 that integrates advanced technology to optimize agricultural productivity, sustainability, and efficiency. To gain comprehensive insights into the current and future development of agricultural UAVs technologies, this research conducts extensive review and analysis of patents and non-patent literature in the field. By thoroughly examining the literature, the knowledge ontology of ag-UAV technologies is presented. Additionally, comprehensive macro- and micro-patent analyses identify the patenting trends and top tech-leaders for the key technologies related to agricultural drones. Moreover, utilizing regression modeling, technology maturity analysis, and technology-function matrix (TFM), the current and future R&D trends and the cold and hot spots of the technical innovations are identified. In the literature, there is a gap related to studies that highlight the importance of patents as a strategic instrument in the context of industry 4.0 technologies. In this context, the present article seeks to fill this gap by presenting a conceptual and empirical framework based on a systematic literature review (SLR) to analyze the relationship between patents and industry 4.0. For this purpose, 958 studies published in journals listed in the Web of Science and Scopus databases were selected. Patent analysis refers to examining various features of technological progress and innovation activities that characterize a given industrial or technological domain. This relationship points to the importance of patenting, as the literature review results showed an increase in patenting activity related to Industry 4.0. This study reinforces that patent analysis refers to the examination of various characteristics of technological progress and that innovation activities characterize a particular industrial or technological domain. This article also contributes to the patents and industry 4.0 fields by presenting the state of the art of this relationship and directing future research.

","PeriodicalId":51794,"journal":{"name":"World Patent Information","volume":"74 ","pages":"Article 102221"},"PeriodicalIF":2.7,"publicationDate":"2023-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43986595","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The United States, Taiwan, and China have been investing heavily in semiconductor research and development. To achieve international competitiveness in the semiconductor industry, Korea needs to establish a research and development (R&D) roadmap for small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Our study identified trends in the semiconductor industry by analyzing the characteristics of core technologies based on patents that disclose technologies instead of holding exclusive ownership. Specifically, we analyzed registered patents concerned with artificial intelligence and machine learning pertaining to the semiconductor industry, which are attracting considerable attention. Using the Korea Intellectual Property Rights Information Service database, we identified 3569 patent specifications related to AI technology and the semiconductor industry. The text mining and network analysis results indicated that the application of deep neural networks is the most important and affects various aspects of R&D. Particularly, AI technology is actively studied for monitoring manufacturing and etch processes.
