Our aim is to find out which metaphors occur in these speeches and which factors, if any, make them more or less influential in political polarization. To do so, this research is based on Conceptual Metaphor Theory and Critical Discourse Analysis. The lexical items “migrante”, “imigrante”, “refugiado”, “Migrant” and “Flüchtling” were searched in the transcripts of the meetings of the German Parliament and the Brazilian House of Representatives with the aid of the AntConc’s concordance tool to identify metaphorical patterns. Then, we analyzed the metaphors based on Critical Discourse Analysis. The results reveal that conceptual metaphors contribute to create the division between in- and outgroup, which is characteristic of polarization.","PeriodicalId":517939,"journal":{"name":"Linha D'Água","volume":" 75","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140392126","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Para tanto, discutimos algumas questões enunciativas, a começar pela própria configuração que assume o comentário nos textos digitais. Outro aspecto enunciativo de suma importância discutido neste trabalho é que, levando em conta os vários enunciadores que agem em uma espécie de alargamento do texto-primeiro da webnotícia, é necessário pensar o estatuto textual dessas interações. O ecossistema digital coloca em relevo aspectos da delimitação e unidade dos textos, cujas explicações em estudos anteriores, massivamente voltados ao pré-digital, não se sustentam. Por isso, lançamos uma discussão em que, para delimitar e/ou sugerir uma unidade dos textos digitais, é preciso também repensar o conceito de contexto e de textualidade.","PeriodicalId":517939,"journal":{"name":"Linha D'Água","volume":" 26","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140392337","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Our central objective is to provide a contribution to this debate through a unifying and integrative proposal guided by the following definition: an argument is a unit of support for an answer to an argumentative question. Building upon this definition, we proceed to expound on the properties of supporting, suggesting that it can be outlined through three operations: the logical-inferential operation of assigning plausibility to the thesis, which links the concept of argument to the notion of argument scheme in terms of an instance-type relationship; the rhetorical operation of generating influence, incorporating the discussion on commitments and agreements into the functioning of the argument; and the dialectical operation of shifting the burden of proof to the other, connecting rational to interactional and intertextual reality. Each of these operations is discussed from both theoretical and operational perspectives, highlighting relevant categories of analysis to address this complex set. In order to ground the discussion, we provide an illustrative analysis of a dialogue between a four-year-old child and her parent, published on Twitter (now X).","PeriodicalId":517939,"journal":{"name":"Linha D'Água","volume":" 27","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140392380","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In these ways of communicating, we recognize complexity, variety, increased immediacy, and new dialogisms. Institutions and brands became aware of the impact of these new media and the need for more efficient communication. Discourse studies are an instrument for analysing promotional messages in traditional and digital media, but also contribute to institutions and brands using these media in efficient and ethically responsible ways. Three approaches are revisited to assess its spectrum of analysis: looking at communication as (1) social interaction, revealing power relations, cultural processes, and discursive practices (critical discourse analysis); (2) understanding the rhetorical architecture of the textual fabric, which enables an argumentative, persuasive, and effective discourse (rhetoric and argumentation); (3) examine the contribution of pragmatic linguistics to the understanding of language in the interaction created in new media (principles of conversation and implicature).","PeriodicalId":517939,"journal":{"name":"Linha D'Água","volume":" 39","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140392641","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study aimed to investigate the phenomenon of technoenunciative heterogeneity, in particular the reported technodiscourse, and its implications for science communication action in a scientific dissemination tweet gathered from the hashtag #divulgaçãocientífica. From a theoretical point of view, Digital Discourse Analysis concepts are presented, according to Marie-Anne Paveau, as well as Sophie Moirand's postulations about corpora extension in a digital environment. The analysis of the tweet generated consisted of the following steps: (i) generation of data for analysis on the topic of science dissemination; (ii) description of the tweet from the data generated from the Twitter ecosystem; (iii) identification of strategies for materializing technoenunciative heterogeneity, via Paveau; (iv) considerations about the materialization of the phenomenon of technoenunciative heterogeneity and its implication for scientific dissemination. The analysis corroborates the fact that native digital discourses are of a technolinguistic nature, in a true composite from an ecological, symmetrical, and post-dualist perspective.","PeriodicalId":517939,"journal":{"name":"Linha D'Água","volume":" 6","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140392911","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Pre-discourse refers to ideas, beliefs and narratives that circulate in a society or social group and that influence the production and interpretation of discursive uses (Paveau, 2013 [2006]). These pre-discourses must be considered in the linguistic analysis of the text since they affect individual perspectives and positions in relation to different issues. We analyzed two humorous cartoons to understand the dynamics of social and cultural influences that permeate textual production and interpretation. By taking pre-discourses into account in textual analysis, we admit that meaning is not only a result of the internal characteristics of the text but is also influenced by the broader context in which the text occurs. We justify why the analytical criteria of textual linguistics, such as, text plan, intertextuality and referencing, consider argumentative strategies assuming the distributed cognition.","PeriodicalId":517939,"journal":{"name":"Linha D'Água","volume":"13 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140283730","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
