It is a letter from the English doctor, dr. Gualter Wade, who, living in Portugal, was responding to a query about what would be new and worthy of imitation in the fight against smallpox. In addition to the representativeness of the language used in the document, a sample of the doctor's effort to prove the safety of inoculation for the elimination of bladders, the topic comes in handy with the current debates, in which the efficacy of vaccines against infectious diseases is still being discussed. The second document, from 1775, handwritten by the captain-general of the captaincy of São Paulo, Martim Lopes Lobo de Saldanha, and addressed to the then secretary of State for the Navy and Overseas, Martinho de Melo e Castro, is a counterpoint to the approach to the sanitary issue, in relation to the 1768 document, since homemade and ineffective measures continued to be used in the colony.","PeriodicalId":517939,"journal":{"name":"Linha D'Água","volume":"111 37","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141361130","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study is theoretically and methodologically based in Critical Discourse Analysis, using the discursive-ethnography approach, which allowed us to reflect on the interactions and representations of 14 interviews with healthcare workers, from different professions, considering the ideologies involved in the context of their relationships. The results reveal a dependence on high technology to maintain life, leading to reflections on the limits of postponing neonatal death, considering the child's dignity and quality of life. Representations related to problems such as social inequality suggest that professionals need knowledge and understanding about how to relate to these families and how to deal with the issue of palliative care.","PeriodicalId":517939,"journal":{"name":"Linha D'Água","volume":" 10","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141365356","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It also aims to present the results of the analysis of two of the scripts and videos, highlighting linguistic and multimodal aspects based on the theoretical-methodological framework of Sociodiscursive Interactionism (ISD) and the didactic genre model (3MT), in order to verify similarities and differences with the genre model of the 3MT proposed by Abreu-Tardelli (2020; 2021). The criteria for the videos’ selection was the ones that had the highest number of views on YouTube. The analysis highlights the presence of explicative sequences, voices in direct speech to present the problematization and resolution phase, and the use of comparisons of the theme with familar locations and comparisons of scientific terms with everyday actions, showing a close approximation with the proposal of 3MT. It also contributes to health literacy, as they highlight the importance of considering language usage strategies to be understood by the target audience, as proposed by the 3MT.","PeriodicalId":517939,"journal":{"name":"Linha D'Água","volume":"2 22","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141363422","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the language present in product warnings (Dumas, 1990; Shuy, 1990; Tiersma, 2002) and in patient information leaflets (PIL) (van der Waarde, 2008; Hagemeyer & Coulthard, 2017) seem to protect manufacturers from possible litigation, transferring responsibility to the consumer or user. Therefore, using both a pragmatic and discoursive analysis approach, we aim to investigate which linguistic strategies in European Portuguese (EP) acquit pharmaceutical companies from holding liability for the users’ actions. The qualitative analysis of a corpus of 20 PIL in EP reveals that the use of passive voice, impersonal constructions, attenuation of directive acts, declarative sentences with imperative value and vague language represent intentional strategies for pharmaceutical companies to protect themselves from possible litigation. Additionally, the comprehensibility of the text is further compromised by grammatical inconsistencies, the constant calculation of inferences and the presence of technical terms, “medicalese”.","PeriodicalId":517939,"journal":{"name":"Linha D'Água","volume":" 3","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141363360","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The work includes identifying available resources and/or sources for compiling the relevant dataset for healthcare access; selecting available tools for corpus inquiry; testing and comparing results from different functionalities and different lexical statistics measures available in the tools; manual filtering of the data; and analyzing the results and the extracted lexicon. The subject participating in this study is a popular educator and therapist in health, who bases their practice on the precepts of Freire's pedagogy for the promotion of health care. The corpus of this study consists of several autobiographical narratives collected throughout the training. For analysis, the concept of meaning and theme (Volóchinov, 2017) was used, drawing from discussions about discursive genre in Bakhtin (2006), ideological sign (Volóchinov, opus cit), and the notion of Popular Education (Freire, 1970; 1992). The analysis revealed that, in the context of the enunciative construction, the sign \"cure\" for the educator only acquires meaning if it is associated with connection and well-being if the touch opens the heart to the flow of the unconditional and makes the being vibrate.","PeriodicalId":517939,"journal":{"name":"Linha D'Água","volume":"8 4","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141362911","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

O letramento em saúde mental refere-se aos conhecimentos e crenças relacionados aos transtornos mentais, que auxiliam no seu reconhecimento, manejo e prevenção. Isso inclui a habilidade de identificar distúrbios específicos, buscar informações sobre saúde mental, entender os fatores de risco, bem como as causas dos transtornos, conhecer os tratamentos disponíveis e possuir atitudes que incentivem a busca adequada por apoio. Com este trabalho desenvolvido em uma perspectiva transdisciplinar entre saúde e linguagens, buscou-se ampliar a compreensão daqueles jovens sobre saúde mental, de forma a combater o estigma relacionado aos transtornos mentais e incentivando a busca por apoio.","PeriodicalId":517939,"journal":{"name":"Linha D'Água","volume":" 16","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141366489","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
