In line with this main purpose, the annual number of STD articles, WoS categories, and indexes, most productive countries, country collaborations, most productive institutions, co-citation network of journals, most cited articles, and authors, co-citation network of authors, and most used author keywords were analysed. The WoS database was scanned between the 1975- December 2021 period and 70 articles were found. CiteSpace 5.8.R3 bibliometric data analysis software was used in the analysis. The results obtained from the analysis show that the first article on STD in the WoS database journals was published in 2013. However, it has been determined that Spain is the leading country in the world in terms of article productivity, country collaboration, and centrality. Most of the STD articles have been published in the SSCI- indexed journals and hospitality leisure sport tourism category. According to other results, the most productive institution is Universidad de Alicante, the most cited article is published by Boes et al., titled “Smart Tourism Destinations: Ecosystems for Tourism Destination Competitiveness” and the author with the highest co-citation count is Ulrike Gretzel. With this study, the current situation and emerging trends in the STD literature are revealed and a research guide for future studies is formed.","PeriodicalId":51784,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Tourism Research","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":2.3,"publicationDate":"2023-03-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44233205","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As most previous studies analysed wellness tourism motivations in one chosen destination, this study fills the gap in cross-cultural analysis of motivations. Exploratory factor analysis revealed six motivational factors including status, beauty and appearance, personal development, nature and outdoors, socialization, and resting and relaxation, the latter factor being dominant across all nationality groups. Seemingly unrelated regression analysis revealed significant differences in terms of the importance of beautification, improving physical condition, nature, and the desire to indulge in luxury experiences.","PeriodicalId":51784,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Tourism Research","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":2.3,"publicationDate":"2023-01-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42782645","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Yet, empirical research on destination aesthetics is very limited. This study explores whether destination aesthetics affects behavioral intention and whether there is a difference between tourists’ aesthetic judgment and aesthetic distance. Destination aesthetics are determined by comparing the perceived difference between the home environment of the tourist and the destination. Gestalt theory has been adopted to understand the impact of destination aesthetic judgment and aesthetic distance on behavioral intention. Structural equation modeling was the main analytical tool used to assess the results. A t-test was also performed. In this research, the behavioral intention of tourists (word-of-mouth intention, willingness to pay, and revisit intention) is positive when tourists perceive environments of holiday locations to be better kept than their accommodations. It has been determined that aesthetic distance only significantly and negatively affects willingness to pay. Among tourists coming to Istanbul, the research found locale characteristics, scope, and perceived age to be important determining factors of destination aesthetics, whereas with tourists coming to Antalya, the research defined destination aesthetics in terms of scope, upkeep, accord, perceived age, and shape. This study shows how destination managers could leverage the aesthetic experiences of tourists.","PeriodicalId":51784,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Tourism Research","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":2.3,"publicationDate":"2023-01-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48645620","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It involves various related stakeholders, especially those related to tourism. The integrative processes provide a direct face-to-face alternative by assimilating various items of information, thus resulting in comprehensive and compromised strategic planning. This study aims to understand success stories in collaborative tourism governance and the lessons resulting from obstacles encountered in various contexts, including local, regional, and national. It employs a systematic literature review of 29 related articles published during 2010 to 2021, drawn from various sources, and conducts a bibliometric study to map research trends. The findings indicate that compared with a national context, local and regional contexts tend to have more complex and comprehensive results as more stakeholders are involved in the action scheme. The findings in the national context indicate that only two of the related articles examined in this study explain collaborative tourism governance. Furthermore, comprehensive results are elaborated within those two papers.","PeriodicalId":51784,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Tourism Research","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":2.3,"publicationDate":"2023-01-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44312092","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While the German tourism market is one of the biggest in the world, no evidence exists on the German adventure traveller. In adventure tourism research in general, there is little evidence on how personality, motives, and socio-demographic factors distinguish the choice for soft and hard adventure activities. Therefore, this quota-based survey among 1,500 German travellers does investigate demographics, motives and personality aspects. A logistic regression analysis is performed to categorize tourists into soft and hard adventure travellers. Gender and age are descriptive characteristics, as well as extraversion and going on adventures to get to know oneself better. This research helps to better understand German hard adventure travellers and enables operators to cater specifically to the needs of the target group.","PeriodicalId":51784,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Tourism Research","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":2.3,"publicationDate":"2023-01-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47337701","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

After producing an updated inventory of literary museums in Portugal, this exploratory and qualitative research examines visitors’ experience at Portuguese literary museums, as revealed by national and international visitors on TripAdvisor. In the absence of national studies on visitors’ experience at these cultural attractions, this paper addresses this gap, using NVivo R.1.6 software and thematic analysis to identify the common experiential tropes in the visitors’ online spontaneous feedback. The findings indicate that most reviewers perceive this experience as a platform for gaining knowledge about the authors, work and historical context. The results also reveal that the writers’ objects (even when replicas), the curational options, and the tour guiding staff contribute significantly to sensing a connection with the author, stepping into the past and co-creating an aura of authenticity in the museum experience.","PeriodicalId":51784,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Tourism Research","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":2.3,"publicationDate":"2023-01-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42760077","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While art’s importance in marketing has been highlighted by some authors ever since Gartner (1994) included it in his taxonomy of image formation agents, a systematic literature review on the relationship between art and destination image is still lacking. This paper thus explores this relationship through a qualitative systematic literature review of Scopus-indexed research published between 1960 and 2020 concerning this theme, discussing the main findings and methodologies utilized. Results show that different art forms have been the object of diverse types of research throughout the years, with cinema standing out as the most studied art form, while painting, sculpture and the performing arts have barely been approached in the destination image literature. Overall, the impact of semiotic qualities in art on destination image has been proven in several studies, and the concept of “word-of-art” is suggested to accommodate these findings. Gaps and future avenues of research are identified.","PeriodicalId":51784,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Tourism Research","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":2.3,"publicationDate":"2023-01-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43808001","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Existing tourism biosecurity research deals with organisational resilience and tourists’ biosecurity behaviour, however, has not explicitly examined tourism biosecurity preparedness at global or destinations tourist ports of entry levels. To fill this gap, this research utilises twenty-six tourism biosecurity criteria generated from a systematic international literature review to analyse international biosecurity instruments and Irish tourist ports of entry. A mixed-method approach was utilised through content analysis of international biosecurity instruments and Irish tourist ports of entry. A survey and semi-structured interviews were used to support the findings of the content analysis at Irish tourist ports of entry. Analysis determined the Irish tourist ports of entry sampled were severely lacking any provision for tourism biosecurity preparedness. International biosecurity instruments had a necessary level of biosecurity standards; however, a notable omission of tourism that adversely impacts tourism biosecurity preparedness. This research recommends international biosecurity instruments improve capacities for tourism- specific measures. Tourist ports of entry should integrate specific tourism biosecurity measures into passenger operations to ensure greater destination resilience.","PeriodicalId":51784,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Tourism Research","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":2.3,"publicationDate":"2023-01-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41478224","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
