Demographics, comorbidities, laboratory data, length of hospital stay, and mortality data for the acute cholecystitis group were retrospectively obtained from the hospital digital database. Platelet count, mean platelet volume, plateletcrit, platelet distribution width, and platelet mass index were collected.</p></div><div><h3>Results</h3><p>A total of 553 patients with acute cholecystitis were the study cases, and 541 hospital employees were the study controls. According to the results of the multivariate analysis of the platelet indices studied, only mean platelet volume and platelet distribution width showed significant differences between the two groups (adjusted odds ratio: 2; 95% confidence interval: 1.4-2.7; <em>P</em> <!--><<!--> <!-->.001 and adjusted odds ratio: 5.88; 95% confidence interval: 2.44-14.4; <em>P</em> <!--><<!--> <!-->.001, respectively). Clinical guidelines assess competence in ERCP through a defined number of procedures, but multiple factors are involved. Our aim was to analyze the morphology of the papilla of Vater as an independent factor in selective common bile duct cannulation during resident training.</p></div><div><h3>Material and methods</h3><p>Patients that underwent ERCP were studied consecutively. All ERCPs were begun by a resident in training. The type of papilla was classified according to Haraldsson, including those with previous sphincterotomy. Cannulation difficulty and success and their relation to the type of papilla were documented. The analysis was divided into three 4-month periods.</p></div><div><h3>Results</h3><p>Of the 429 patients, cannulation was difficult in 101 (23.5%). The residents achieved selective cannulation of the common bile duct in 276 (64.3%) and the cannulation success rate at the end of their training was 81.7%. Cannulation was performed with the least difficulty in papillae with previous sphincterotomy (2.8%), unlike the type 4 papilla, which was difficult to cannulate in 50% of the cases. The lowest overall cannulation success was in the type 2 papilla (81.8%).</p></div><div><h3>Conclusión</h3><p>Papilla type can influence cannulation success, but it is not the only related factor. It is more common in infants, in whom the majority of episodes are short-lived and cause no other symptoms or complications, differentiating it from gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). The diagnosis and management of GER and GERD continue to be a challenge for the physician. Therefore, the aim of the <em>Asociación Mexicana de Gastroenterología</em> was to adapt international documents to facilitate their adoption by primary care physicians, with the goal of standardizing quality of care and reducing the number of diagnostic tests performed and inappropriate medication use.</p><p>The ADAPTE methodology was followed, and the recommendations were approved utilizing the Delphi strategy. The executive committee carried out the review of the guidelines, position papers, and international reviews that met the <em>a priori</em> quality criteria and possible applicability in a local context. The recommendations were taken from those sources and adapted, after which they were approved by the working group. The consensus consists of 25 statements and their supporting information on the diagnosis and treatment of GER and GERD in infants. The typical gastrointestinal manifestation is diarrhea but symptoms of dyspepsia, such as epigastric pain, nausea, or satiety, can sometimes appear. Previous studies have reported that the prevalence of CD in patients with dyspepsia can be as high as 7%. The aim of the present study was to evaluate CD seroprevalence in subjects with dyspeptic symptoms and a control group in a Mexican population.</p></div><div><h3>Material and methods</h3><p>A case-control study was conducted on blood donors that answered the PAGI-SYM questionnaire for dyspepsia and in whom IgA antibodies to tissue transglutaminase 2 (IgA anti-tTG2) and IgG antibodies to deamidated gliadin peptide (IgG anti-DGP) were determined. CD seroprevalence in subjects with dyspeptic symptoms and in asymptomatic subjects was compared.</p></div><div><h3>Results</h3><p>A total of 427 subjects (76.3% men), with a mean patient age of 34 years (range of 18-65 years) were included. Of those participants, 87 (20.3%) had symptoms of dyspepsia (group A) and 340 (79.6%) were asymptomatic (group B). Antibodies were positive in one (1.15%) of the group A subjects (1/87, 95% CI 0.2-6%), whereas they were positive in 4 (1.18%) of the group B subjects (4/340, 95% CI 0.4-2.9%, p = 0.59).</p></div><div><h3>Conclusions</h3><p>CD seroprevalence in the study population with dyspeptic symptoms (1%) was not different from that of the control population. Prevalence worldwide is estimated at 11%. There is little information on the prevalence of the other functional bowel disorders (FBDs). Our aim was to establish the prevalence of IBS and other FBDs according to the Rome<!--> <!-->IV criteria, in Uruguay.</p></div><div><h3>Materials and methods</h3><p>An observational, population-based prevalence study was conducted. Data were collected through an online questionnaire, utilizing the Rome<!--> <!-->IV criteria.</p></div><div><h3>Results</h3><p>Of the 1,052 participants (79% women, mean patient age 44<!--> <!-->years), 47.2% met the Rome<!--> <!-->IV diagnostic criteria for at least one of the FBDs analyzed. Functional constipation (FC) was the most frequent, at 18.7% (16.4-21.1), followed by IBS at 17.1% (14.9-19.4) and functional diarrhea (FD) at 15.4% (13.3-17.6). IBS with constipation (IBS-C) was the most frequent IBS subtype (35%) and the IBS with diarrhea (IBS-D) subtype predominated in men. All FBDs were more prevalent in women and youths. Of the survey participants with a FBD, 59% stated that they perceived no worsening of their symptoms related to the COVID-19 pandemic.</p></div><div><h3>Conclusions</h3><p>Ours is the first prevalence study on FBDs conducted on the Uruguayan general population. Half of the participants surveyed presented with a FBD analyzed in the study. FC was the most frequent, followed by IBS and FD. It can affect the entire gastrointestinal tract and its etiology is unknown.</p></div><div><h3>Objective</h3><p>The aim of this consensus was to establish the most relevant aspects related to definitions, diagnosis, follow-up, medical treatment, and surgical treatment of Crohn's disease in Mexico.</p></div><div><h3>Material and methods</h3><p>Mexican specialists in the areas of gastroenterology and inflammatory bowel disease were summoned. The consensus was divided into five modules, with 69 statements. Applying the Delphi panel method, the pre-meeting questions were sent to the participants, to be edited and weighted.
