Conducted through a pre-experimental approach, the research population comprised eleventh-grade students from MAS Guppi Mamuju, totaling one class. Utilizing total sampling, one experimental class of eight students was selected. The study employed a writing test as the primary research instrument, assessing various aspects including content, organization, vocabulary, language use, and mechanics using Jacobs' scoring scale. Data analysis was conducted using Microsoft Excel's Automatic Data Analysis tool. The results indicated a notable improvement in students' writing ability following the implementation of ILP, as evidenced by the significant increase in mean scores from the pre-test (57.00) to the post-test (70.63), with a range of 13.37 points. Statistical analysis using the t-test supported the rejection of the Null Hypothesis (H0) and acceptance of the Alternative Hypothesis (H1). In conclusion, the integration of ILP effectively enhanced the writing skills of eleventh-grade students at MAS Guppi Mamuju.","PeriodicalId":517512,"journal":{"name":"JELITA","volume":"36 2","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140285821","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It aimed to provide a quantitative and qualitative analysis of the Persian proverbs and their equivalents in English. This research utilized the conceptual metaphor theory proposed by Lakoff and Johnson. Data were collected from the Persian Dictionary of Proverbs and were analyzed to determine the frequency, speech act functions, and framing in these proverbs. Data analysis revealed that Persian proverbs are framed more around gain-framing and loss-framing rather than avoidance-framing. Most Persian proverbs function as statements and complaints rather than advice or warnings. The results showed that proverbs involving 'eye' and 'see,' surpassed others related to ‘eye’ and ‘blind’, and the frequency number of the perception verb ‘see’ was more than the sensory body organ ‘eye’. Finally, despite variations in the use of different words that are used with eye or see in a single proverb, this study concludes that the ‘eye’ is more used with its allocated perception verb ‘see’. However, the perception verb ‘see’ is never used with ‘blind’, but ‘eye’ is often used with ‘blind’.","PeriodicalId":517512,"journal":{"name":"JELITA","volume":"166 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140422107","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Specifically, our motivation is centred on the functionality of combining the habitual classroom teaching style with the Telegram app (a mobile-based technological tool) for studies relating to speech production and perception. The methodical procedure and design for this study is both quantitative and descriptive; employing the use of a multiple-choice questionnaire in data collection from 401 Nigerian undergraduate and postgraduate students in the University of Benin, Nigeria, to ascertain the effectiveness of digital designs and stratagems. Pie charts are employed to display multiple divisions of the study's data comparison. This study emphasizes the Online-Driver Blended Learning Model; such a pedagogical approach exposes the L2 learner to a more involved and effective way of understanding how to avoid imposing an unfamiliar accent upon the target language. Consequently, we see a merger of online practical exercises and exposure to uploaded multimodal texts and native speakers' spoken data (audio-visual recordings/voice notes) with scheduled direct classroom interludes. Findings confirm that exploiting such a hybrid model enhances students' cognitive abilities and retentive capacity regarding English pronunciation. Such digital audio-visual tools are paramount phonetic strategies for learning how to avoid unacceptable phonetic alterations. Thus, we see the effectiveness of integrating the Telegram app into the traditional brick-and-mortar educational method in handling problems associated with speech sound production and second-language phonological interference.","PeriodicalId":517512,"journal":{"name":"JELITA","volume":"56 9","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140430853","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study used a qualitative research design to conduct in-depth interviews with 25 English teachers, which aim to investigate and compare the pedagogical approaches used to satisfy the unique linguistic and contextual requirements of these two academic disciplines. Through purposive sampling, English teachers from both Social and Science study programs participate in semi-structured interviews, providing rich insights into their instructional methods. The purpose of the qualitative analysis is to reveal trends, similarities, and differences in the strategies used, providing a detailed understanding of the complexities of ESP teaching methods. The findings reveal illumination on the specific strategies employed by English teachers in the Social and Science study programs, demonstrating how these strategies are shaped by curriculum complexity and the backgrounds of the learners. The comparative study highlights the significance of pedagogical techniques tailored to individual contexts and serves as a basis for making well-informed decisions in curriculum development and teacher training. This study has wider implications for improving English for Specific Purposes (ESP) learning programs in Indonesia and adds to the continuing discussion on effective language teaching. This study also provides helpful recommendations for educators, curriculum developers, and policymakers aiming to enhance language learning experiences in ESP environments.","PeriodicalId":517512,"journal":{"name":"JELITA","volume":"42 10","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140432737","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
