Therefore, these millennial farmers need to increase their capacity to survive in doing agriculture business. This study aims to describe the characteristics of millennial farmers; describe the capacity level of millennial farmers in maintaining their existence in the agriculture business; analyse factors that influence the capacity of millennial farmers in maintaining the existence in the agriculture business; and developing a Millennial Farmer Capacity Building model. The method used is the sector research method. The study results show that millennial farmers can identify opportunities in farming. They could be more vital to access quality assurance, such as certification of agricultural products to increase the added value and competitiveness. Factors significantly affecting millennial farmers' capacity are the sociocultural environment, support from private institutions, and personal characteristics. The capacity of millennial farmers also substantially affects the existence of their businesses in agriculture. The role of extension agents only significantly influences the presence of millennial farmer businesses. The capacity of millennial farmers to maintain the existence of businesses in the agricultural sector can be increased through the sociocultural environment, support from private institutions, and personal characteristics.","PeriodicalId":513854,"journal":{"name":"Anuário do Instituto de Geociências","volume":"116 2","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140380176","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Originally, the methodology was applied to a risk area in the tropical region. In this work, the application was extended to mid-latitude watersheds. The hydrographic basin around the Carsington Water dam (located in the Midlands of the Great Britain) is chosen because it presents risks. The model Nash-Sutcliffe Efficiency for the upstream discharge from the Carsington Water dam reached 50% with a correlation coefficient of the order of 70%, an acceptable value considering the seasonal effects of the dam on evapotranspiration and higher soil permeability. Modeling the distribution of soil moisture and excess surface water allowed obtaining the spatial distribution of the maximum conditional probability of landslides and floods in the Carsington Water catchment. These probability maps obtained are consistent with long-term susceptibility maps for Great Britain.","PeriodicalId":513854,"journal":{"name":"Anuário do Instituto de Geociências","volume":" 20","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140212292","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The research area is located in the municipality of Andorinhas, in the north center of the state of Bahia, in the Piemonte Norte Do Itapicuru region. Therefore, the main objective of the present work is the use of Remote Sensing and Aerogeophysics data to elaborate the geological map of the study area and highlight new target areas for mineral research. The Digital Image Processing (PDI) stage was carried out in an environment in the ENVI® 5.3 software for the scenes of the optical Alos and radar images, Palsar. The treatment of magnetic and radiometric data was carried out in the environment of the software Oasis Montaj 9.10 by Geosoft®. In the Geographic Information System (GIS) platform of ArcGis 10.7.1®, multisource data was integrated. This integration supported the screening of information from local lithologies and the identification of four lithological units: Sienito Itiúba, Santa Luz Unit, São Bento Unit and Jacurici Valley Complex. In this last unit, a combined analysis between Map Algebra and Fuzzy logic was applied to all input raster data, in order to mark out a zoning of potential areas for the occurrence of mafic-ultramafic rocks. In the end, a good relationship was noted between the results obtained with models that already exist in the bibliography. In view of this, the application of the methodology developed in this research requires more robustness for the local geological knowledge, as it will also help in the development of new mineral research endeavors.","PeriodicalId":513854,"journal":{"name":"Anuário do Instituto de Geociências","volume":"21 11","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140242852","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this process of territorial occupation, constructions on soft clay soils represent significant structural hazards. This study aimed to evaluate structural instabilities in a public school in Florianópolis (SC, Brazil), using integrated geology, geotechnics, and geophysics data. This is a case study in an area characterized by the urbanization process of the West Side of the Costeira do Pirajubaé Massif. Geologically, the study area is composed of granitic rocks, soft clay deposits, and colluvial soils, in an environment of the upper third to the middle of the slope. For data analysis, geophysical, geotechnical, and geological methods were used. In the results, it was identified upstream colluvium, evidenced by the wide variety of soils (sandy, yellowish silt clay, of medium consistency), as well as gray clay deposits, ranging from very soft to hard, with distinct characteristics of the residual soils of the granitoid downstream, which are normally medium consistency brown to yellowish clays, expected for the B horizon. The results indicate a potential slip surface, which corresponds to a layer of soft clay deposits. Thus, it can be concluded that the observed instabilities, characterized by footing displacement, cracks, and subsidence demonstrate subsoil fragilities related to human interventions and the insufficiency of the drainage system, even when existing.","PeriodicalId":513854,"journal":{"name":"Anuário do Instituto de Geociências","volume":"34 25","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139599491","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The adopted strategy was to subject both the soil, as well as the brick manufactured with this soil, to the Neutronic Activation test, later, through the mass balance, to verify the variations in the global concentrations of chemical elements. The results show that of the 27 elements analyzed, 25 showed a reduction in their concentrations after the burning of the soil. As the systematic literature review points out, the release of these chemical elements to the environment, is intrinsically linked to the decrease in the environmental quality of the built environment, therefore, it is an indication of possible risks for human health.","PeriodicalId":513854,"journal":{"name":"Anuário do Instituto de Geociências","volume":"119 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139605517","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In rhyodacites from Paraná Volcanic Province, plucking and macro-abrasion processes are predominant in the fluvial incision process, according to field observations. Using the intact rock strength as a proxy for the weathering, this paper analyzes how the strength of rhyodacites behave along a cross section of a bedrock channel and seeks to understand how this affects erosion. Topography and intact rock strength were surveyed continuously along a 30 m cross section using a Schmidt hammer, model N. Mean, median, and standard deviation were calculated for each meter of the section. The topographic amplitude of the bed in the section is 30 cm, featuring an almost flat geometry. The average strength values range from 30 to 59 R (7.65 to 58.15 MPa). Despite the small topographical amplitude, the general behavior of the rock strength follows the macrotopography of the bed, increasing in the high zones and decreasing in the low zones. The standard deviation, interpreted as directly proportional to the degree of weathering, follows the microtopography of the bed (amplitude ≈ 10 cm), being greater in low areas and smaller in high areas. This association between standard deviation of strength and microtopography reveals the seasonal variation of the water level in the channel, whereby higher moisture in low-lying areas intensifies the weathering of the rock. Weathering affects the density of rhyodacites in the area with a minimum reduction of 11.2% being calculated. This enhances the erosion processes by plucking and macroabrasion by reducing the intact rock strength. The susceptibility of the rhyodacites to weathering, despite the differences within the section, favors the maintenance of the rectangular geometry of the channel and shows how erosive processes are affected by the condition of the rock. The study revealed that the notion of decreasing the intact rock strength towards the banks associated with greater weathering in higher areas, cannot be generalized, as it depends on the geometry of the channel section, the lithological nature of the bed, and the frequency of flows.","PeriodicalId":513854,"journal":{"name":"Anuário do Instituto de Geociências","volume":"2 4","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139524290","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
