Se han realizado relevamientos de la diversidad de mamíferos, aves, anfibios y reptiles presentes en el PPI y una actualización de la herpetofauna. En este trabajo reportamos el primer registro de Oxyrhopus rhombifer bachmanni para el PPI. Con este registro, se incrementa a seis el número de especies de serpientes registradas en el PPI, dando una riqueza total de 26 especies para la herpetofauna presente en el mismo. El área objeto de estudio fue de aproximadamente 89,9 hectáreas. Se agruparon observaciones casuales de anfibios, reptiles, aves y mamíferos realizadas a lo largo de seis años tanto del autor como del personal de la finca, las cuales fueron verificadas mediante fotografías para validarlas y datos de iNaturalist e eBird tomados a un máximo de diez kilómetros de la finca. No se contabilizaron las observaciones sino las especies observadas. El resultado muestra dos especies de anfibios de distinta familia, dieciocho reptiles de nueve familias repartidas en tres órdenes, 194 aves distribuidas en 54 familias de 23 órdenes y 10 especies de mamíferos de 9 familias en 5 órdenes. Tres de estas especies, una tortuga y dos mamíferos, tienen categoría de Vulnerables en la lista roja y una subespecie de primate se considera endémica del departamento. En este trabajo presentamos datos de reproducción del Calancate Cabeza Azul (Thectocercus acuticaudatus), el Piojito Picudo (Inezia inornata) y el Fueguero (Piranga flava). Los registros de nidos fueron observados en áreas de bosque chaqueño semiárido de Santiago del Estero, durante el monitoreo de vertebrados en comunidades campesinas del norte de la provincia. Estos registros contribuyen al conocimiento de la biodiversidad presente en los socioecosistemas campesinos, y son los primeros registros de nidificación de las tres especies para esta provincia. Este aporte complementa el escaso conocimiento que aún se tiene sobre la biología reproductiva de la avifauna en el noroeste argentino. El Calancate Cabeza Azul y el Fueguero son aves residentes y de amplia distribución en el territorio provincial, de las cuales no existía información sobre su nidificación para la provincia. Tropical communities of dung beetles are usually diverse, abundant, and habitat specific; they respond quickly to many types of environmental changes. This study was carried out over 18 months, on an altitudinal gradient in the Oglán Alto watershed, located in Pastaza Province, Ecuador. A total of 10,227 individuals belonging to 59 species were collected. Food preference was analyzed and it was observed that species of coprophagous beetles are superior to necrophagous and generalists species. Tunnelers functional group was more abundant than rollers and dwellers groups, and only this group reduced its richness at higher altitudes. Six richness estimators were used for comparison between the two types of bait used (excrement and carrion). Correspondence Analysis was performed, according to the types of traps and species captured, with respect to the variation of altitudinal gradient. We concluded that the relation of altitudinal gradient and average of richness by traps is very similar among four transects sampled, showing a mixture of species of copro-necrophagous beetles associated to Amazon lowlands, with few species of foothill evergreen forest of the Ecuadorian east. Each technique varies depending on the dyes used and the necessary steps for execution. The aim of this work was to evaluate different staining techniques for sperm morphology and morphometry analysis in bats. Samples were collected from the epididymis of 57 adult specimens, which were macerated in Farmer’s solution and used to prepare smears. The smears were stained with Toluidine Blue, Giemsus (n=4), Molossops temminckii (n=2), Histiotus laephotis (n=1), and Myotis albescens (n=1). Among the evaluated techniques, Toluidine Blue proved to be a quick, simple, and cost-effective method in order to determine the presence of spermatozoa and describe their general morphology. Dicromatic stains like Hematoxylin-Eosin andMay Grünwald-Giemsa were more efficient in differentiating the nucleus and acrosome, although they were also more complex and costly to perform. In conclusion, we recommend the use of the aforementioned three techniques as optimal choices for initial studies of sperm morphology in bats.sa, May Grünwald-Giemsa, Gram stain, Hematoxylin-Eosin, DAPI (4’,6-diamid-ino-2-phenylindole), Basic Fuchsin, and Janus Green.
