Although services are available to help these victims, they are often fragmented within communities with service providers having limited means to provide preventative services. The coordinated community response (CCR) is a type of coalition intended to overcome siloed services through a single-point-of-entry system and more team-based approaches to prevention. This article describes the development, implementation, and evaluation of the interagency functioning of a local CCR. Methods The main goal of the CCR has been to better serve victims of elder abuse, neglect, and financial exploitation. However, through the coalition's evolution, the mission of how to do this shifted from a victim service model to a prevention approach. Unique features of this CCR include a uniform consent form to allow sharing of protected client data among all service providers and a technology-supported infrastructure for service record documentation and referrals. Evaluation Using available data from administrative records, the number of unique interagency referrals for services to older adults at risk increased 450% from 2016 to 2018. The strength and type of connections between agencies changed over time. Among all eligible clients offered services, most (77%) agreed to provide uniform consent to allow data sharing among other local partner agencies. Discussion The evaluation showed that the coalition met most of its planned measurable outputs in the original logic model guiding the CCR programmatic development. The evaluation findings and lessons learned inform updated guidelines for self-assessment of CCRs.","PeriodicalId":51324,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Forensic Nursing","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47114297","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

More than half of all persons experiencing trafficking are youth, with many in the United States unrecognized despite experiencing exploitation. Available peer-reviewed articles report a myriad of descriptions of trafficking, yet the concept and operational definition of youth trafficking, specifically, is lacking and unclear. Youth trafficking is described differently across multidisciplinary researchers and clinicians working with trafficked youth. Furthermore, labor trafficking of youth is largely excluded from the conversation surrounding trafficking. This article presents a concept analysis of naming trafficking of persons under the age of 18 years to clarify the concept specific to youth experiencing all forms of trafficking and approaches professionals can take with this specific subpopulation of trafficked persons and survivors.","PeriodicalId":51324,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Forensic Nursing","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41755944","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Already facing a persistent shortage of sexual assault nurse examiners (SANEs) to serve patients across the life span, residents with medical forensic needs were often being referred to other hospitals across the state for care or simply were not receiving medical forensic examinations because of lack of access to trained examiners. The Indiana SANE Training Project was established to evaluate the forensic nursing workforce throughout Indiana and work to expand access to qualified SANEs through training and collaboration with stakeholders, with a focus on rural and underserved areas of the state. Methods The Project gathered information from nurses who participated in activities during the first Project year. This information was evaluated for service gaps and ongoing training needs. The project coordinator then convened a workgroup of stakeholders and subject matter experts to evaluate and respond to the most immediate need—limited access to pediatric medical forensic providers. Results From September 2018 to December 2019, nurses were trained by the Project (n = 160). Of those, 86% indicated that their hospital did not provide medical forensic examinations to pediatric patients. The Pediatric SANE Intensive was launched in October 2020 and trained pediatric SANEs (n = 28). Upon completion, participants reported 47% increase in confidence and 56% increase in competence related to caring for pediatric patients. Discussion Statewide collaboration is a critical component of establishing a consistent approach to care, strengthening multidisciplinary partnerships, increasing access to medical forensic services across the life span and in rural and underserved areas, and promoting the Indiana Guidelines for Medical Forensic Examination of Pediatric Sexual Abuse Patients.","PeriodicalId":51324,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Forensic Nursing","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"61781458","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The speed at which teleSANE programs are proliferating is outpacing the available research and evaluation to inform key decisions on program development and implementation. During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health SANE Program and its National TeleNursing Center decided to rapidly and temporarily convert a set of hospitals from providing in-person SANE care to remote teleSANE care. Several specific changes were made to this program's established teleSANE model for the rapid, temporary conversion. This article reports on findings from an evaluation of the temporary TeleSANE model that provide insight into key decisions that must be made in the development and implementation of teleSANE program features. Communities considering developing or already operating a teleSANE program should be intentional in making program goals, purposes, and values explicit as well as develop their program accordingly.","PeriodicalId":51324,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Forensic Nursing","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44335253","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this case report of a Health Resources and Services Administration-funded program for Advancing Nurse Education - Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner, we describe the unique challenges and collaborations that have taken place in rural communities as we continued to train nurses during the COVID-19 pandemic. Geography and lack of availability of sexual assault nurse examiner (SANE) trainees brought many challenges as we prepared them to successfully pass the SANE certification examination and recruit new cohorts to expand SANE education.During the implementation of this program, we found that our process model, community collaboration, and commitment to these rural counties were the keys to our success before and during the COVID-19 pandemic.SANE trainee process and outcome measures were collected through quantitative and qualitative data collection. These data from the first cohort, along with the strategies implemented as all partners navigated the challenges of COVID-19, helped to strengthen our collaboration and expand the program.
