Three OPD axes were included in the reliability analysis: the Levels of Structural Integration Axis (OPD-LSIA), the Conflict Axis (OPD-CA), and the Interpersonal Relations Axis (OPD-IRA). Methods: A heterogeneous sample of n = 80 patients was diagnostically assessed with SCID-I and SCID-II as well as with an OPD interview. Two raters of a group of five independently rated each patient's OPD interview according to OPD-3. Results: Interrater reliability was good to excellent for OPD-LSIA [ICC₁,₁ = .874 - .920], and moderate to good forOPD-CA [ICC₁,₁ = .547 - .764] as well as forOPD-IRA at the aggregated level of Agency and Communion [ICC₁,₁ = .575 - .793], except for raters' self-perceived tendencies to act towards the patient. Methods: An explorative study was conducted with 42 women (the age range was between 21 and 45 years [mean 36.17; SD±6.66]) on average twelve months after TOP using semi-structured qualitative interviews. All women received psychological counselling before, during and after the time of TOP (mean 5.2; range 2-11), at the initial counselling session all partners were present. Data were analysed by means of qualitative content analysis by Mayring; the main research question focused on women's perception of psychological counselling on experiencing TOP and coping with this incisive life event. Results: After receiving psychological counselling most of the women felt sufficiently prepared to make a decision, to experience the birth process and to bid farewell to their child. Seeing and holding the baby were perceived as helpful for emotional processing. At the time of the interview, despite the emotional distress,most women reported having positivememories and felt they had coped with the loss. Conclusions: Long-term psychological care from the time of diagnosis through TOP and follow up impacts positively on experiencing TOP, saying farewell to the child and integrating the loss into life. SPA has an influence on numerous psychological, cognitive and physical parameters.The question of its significance for mental illness in old age, which was investigated in the present study, has so far remained in the background. Of particular interest was the connection to attachment and mentalization. Method: A clinical sample (N = 150) was compared with a non-clinical sample (N = 153). Both were divided into three age groups (40-54, 55-69 and over 70 years).The survey instruments used were the Attitude to Own Ageing subscale of the Philadelphia Geriatric Center Moral Scale (PGCMS) and a mentalizing and an attachment questionnaire (MZQ and ECR). Results:The clinical sample showed significantly lower scores in all age groups (more negative SWA), but only the non-clinical sample showed a decrease in age across the three age groups, thus the SPA became more negative. In the regression analytic evaluation, a more negative SPA was associated with an avoidant attachment orientation as well as reduced mentalizing skills. Conclusions: The results highlight the importance of SWA as a clinically and therapeutically significant variable.
