Among these, the equations were derived for the first time for three species ( P. pellucidus , A. blanfordii , L. niger ). Sampling was done as a part of deep-sea exploratory survey of FORV Sagar Sampada along the deeper shelf regions of the Bay of Bengal at a depth range of 200 – 1000 m using high-speed demersal trawl (HSDT-CV). The numerical relations established using regression between fish size (TL) and various otolith morphometric measurements (otolith length (OL), otolith height (OH), otolith weight (OWe), otolith area (OA) and otolith perimeter (OP)) can be used to predict the prey size in food and feeding studies for studying the food web dynamics of less-studied deep-sea fishes. LWR of the otolith of selected species showed a negative allometric growth ( t- test, p < 0.5). The higher r 2 value ( > 0.70) obtained for the relationship between fish size (TL) and various otolith morphometric measurements indicates the robustness of the model. The representative images of otoliths of these fishes will be helpful to the taxonomists for the species confirmation and reconstruction of past species assemblages in the palaeontological studies.","PeriodicalId":51062,"journal":{"name":"Indian Journal of Geo-Marine Sciences","volume":"14 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90863160","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"地球科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These forests support a high diversity of flora and fauna, including molluscs and crabs. A recently discovered species of mangrove leaf slug, Elysia bangtawaensis Swennen, 1998 belonging to the superorder Sacoglossa and family Plakobranchidae of Phylum Mollusca, was recorded for the first time in Karnataka from the two mangrove sites, viz . Kodithale and Kannada Kudru of Udupi district. These mangrove leaf slugs were recorded from the tidal pools during post-monsoon and pre-monsoon seasons.","PeriodicalId":51062,"journal":{"name":"Indian Journal of Geo-Marine Sciences","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"89371613","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"地球科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Samples were collected for the study from six stations in Valanthakadu during three different periods with regard to floods i.e. April – May 2018: Pre flood (PRF), September – October 2018: Just after floods (JAF), and March 2019: Post floods (POF) and plated onto Malt-yeast-glucose-peptone agar for isolation and enumeration. Morphologically distinct colonies were picked, clustered on biochemical basis, representative strains identified on molecular basis or using API 20 C AUX strip. On enumeration, the average colony counts of yeasts in the sediments were found to be greater than in water samples. Out of 89 morphologically distinct yeast strains isolated, the majority were non-pigmented (73 %) and belonged to the phyla Ascomycetes (58 %). Six different yeast genera: Candida spp., Cryptococcus spp., Hortaea sp., Rhodotorula spp., Rhodosporidiobolus sp., and Trichosporon sp. were recorded in this study. C. tropicalis was noted to be not only the predominant species but also resilient to the effect of floods. Flood was found to influence the diversity of yeasts, with the introduction of certain genera ( Hortaea wernekii (first report)) and the loss of certain others ( C. gatti ). Analysis of diversity indices evidently revealed the influence of floods, with an increase in yeast diversity just after floods (1.62) when compared to other periods of sampling. A change in the hydrolytic profile of isolates was also noticed in relation to floods. This study clearly indicated that floods do affect the diversity of yeast communities and their function in the ecosystems, at least temporarily. Nevertheless, the long-term impacts remain unknown and deserve further studies.","PeriodicalId":51062,"journal":{"name":"Indian Journal of Geo-Marine Sciences","volume":"5 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86539277","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"地球科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
