Due to its varied topography and land cover, the Kukadi River Basin play a crucial hydrological entity in the area which presents difficulties for standard delineation techniques. High-resolution satellite imagery is used in the study to provide exact information on land cover in the Kukadi River Basin. The work aims to extract comprehensive land cover data by utilizing spectral analysis and image classification techniques, which are part of RS. In order to improve the delineation of the Basin borders, this data is seamlessly integrated with GIS spatial analytic tools, which also incorporate digital elevation models, slope, and other terrain metrics. The research findings demonstrate the possibility of combining RS and GIS technology to overcome the challenges associated with varying terrains, hence furthering the improvement of Basin delineation approaches. The results provide a useful and dependable paradigm for defining river Basin in a variety of geographical contexts, which is important for water resource management, Environmental Conservation, Land use planning, decision-makers, researchers, and practitioners working on hydrological studies.","PeriodicalId":509303,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Advanced Zoology","volume":"91 2","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140418049","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The abundant subfamily was Formicinae with 5 genera and under Myrmicinae, two genera were observed under the subfamily Ponerinae and one genus each from Subfamilies Pseudomyrmicinae and Dolichoderinae. The most abundant species were found to be Camponotus compressus followed by Oecophylla smaragdina. From the collection of ants few invasive species were also observed such as Anoplolepis gracilipes and Plagiolepis sp.. Two mathematical indices were followed and those were Shannon-Weaver Index and Simpson Index to study the diversity and compare the species richness from the three seasons – summer, monsoon and winter, and a statistical data was formed, the abundance in species were also observed to study which species were dominant and during which season. The maximum diversity was observed during the monsoon season followed by the summer and the least diversity was during the winter. The ants usually prefer a moist environment. The study assumes that the ant diversity can predict the environment.","PeriodicalId":509303,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Advanced Zoology","volume":"28 3","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140419864","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study aimed to evaluate the potential anti-diabetic activity of Schefflera stellata leaves ethanolic extract in a streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic Wistar rat model. Wistar rats were induced with diabetes using STZ and subsequently treated with Schefflera stellata leaves ethanolic extract. Various biochemical parameters such as fasting blood glucose levels, serum insulin levels, lipid profile, and antioxidant enzyme activities were assessed. Additionally, histopathological examination of pancreatic tissues was performed to evaluate the impact of the extract on structural alterations. The results revealed a significant reduction in fasting blood glucose levels in rats treated with Schefflera stellata extract compared to the untreated diabetic group. Moreover, the extract exhibited a positive influence on serum insulin levels, lipid profile, and antioxidant enzyme activities, suggesting its potential in ameliorating diabetes-induced metabolic dysregulation. Histopathological analysis of pancreatic tissues indicated a preservation of islet architecture in the extract-treated group, highlighting the protective effects of Schefflera stellata against STZ-induced pancreatic damage.","PeriodicalId":509303,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Advanced Zoology","volume":"1 2","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140426585","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This research was carried out to investigate the effect of different stocking densities on growth performance, feed utilization, survival rate, haematology, serum biochemistry and serum antioxidants enzyme responses in common carp juveniles (Cyprinus carpio L.) reared in outdoor cage culture. The fish were randomly stocked in four density groups; 7F fish/0.2m3 (Control group), 14F fish/0.2m3, 21F fish/0.2m3 and 28F fish/0.2m3 in 12 cylindrical cages (0.2m3) in concrete pond, with three cages in each density for 84 days. The results of the 14f density group significantly improved the FW, WG, SGR, FCR, FCE, PER, FI, PI, WBC, RBC, Hct, GSH and SOD activities. The 21F and 28F had significant impacts on FW, WG, SGR, FCR, FCE, PER, FI, PI, glucose, cortisol, ALT, AST, ALP, TG, MDA and GSH increased significantly with increasing stocking density. In contrast, the survival rate, TP, TG, HDL, GPx and SOD activities were significantly decreased. In general, the results demonstrated that the best stocking density is 14F fish/0.2m3 which provided a better growth performance and health status of C. carpio cultured in the cage in the concrete pond.","PeriodicalId":509303,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Advanced Zoology","volume":"130 S210","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140429016","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Data was collected through surveys and interviews conducted among male and female farmers, with a focus on age, landholding, education, income, and marketing practices. The findings reveal a predominantly young farming population, with the majority falling within the 31-45 years age group. The data also shows that both male and female farmers mainly possess small landholdings, typically between 2-5 acres. This suggests a prevalence of smallholder farming in the region. Regarding education, while primary education is the most common level of education among both genders, there is a significant portion of female farmers with no formal education, indicating potential disparities in educational opportunities between genders. Income distribution analysis indicates that the majority of farmers earn between INR 20,000 - 30,000 per month, with male farmers slightly earning more than their female counterparts. Analysis of marketing practices reveals a preference among both male and female farmers to sell their produce locally, with direct selling to consumers being more common among female farmers. Meanwhile, male farmers tend to engage more with wholesalers. The study also highlights a relatively low usage of online platforms for sales among both genders, suggesting an area for potential improvement in leveraging technology for marketing. This study provides valuable insights into the demographic profile and marketing practices of pomegranate farmers in Tumkur District, which can inform policy interventions and agricultural development programs.","PeriodicalId":509303,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Advanced Zoology","volume":"138 S242","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140429272","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In fishes, metals contamination results in oxidative stress by promoting reactive oxygen species (ROS) formation through redox cycling and impairing antioxidant defenses. ROS are harmful to all forms of aquatic life and can damage tissues and cellular components.Higher amount ofROS lead to varying degree of oxidative damage to the fish tissues including lipid peroxidation, protein and DNA oxidation as well as enzyme inactivation through different mechanisms as observed in different fish species. The present comprehension of how metals contribute to the onset of oxidative stress in fish is summed up in this review.","PeriodicalId":509303,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Advanced Zoology","volume":"48 8","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140431571","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
