To increase productivity, a combination of molecular markers and morphological features is advised to boost productivity. The purpose of current work is to characterise polymorphic SSR markers, determine genotype variability, identify suitable parents for hybridization and understand key yield factors. Methods: In 2020-21, twenty-eight Indian mustard varieties and advance breeding materials were evaluated at Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Educational and Research Institute’s experimental field in Narendrapur, West Bengal, using statistical techniques to assess genetic estimates and molecular diversity using twenty identified polymorphic SSR primers out of thirty tested primers. Result: The study found that the number of siliqua per plant and primary and secondary branches are crucial yield components determined by correlation and path analysis. The high heritability of ten traits was observed. Genotypes were divided into four clusters with both Mahalanobis’s D2 and molecular diversity analysis, with 1000 seed weight and plant height showing the highest degree of divergence. But the composition of genotypes varied in two types of clusters. Ra1F09 and Ra2B02, SSR markers, showed greater PIC values and heterozygosity among the twenty polymorphic SSR primers. Hybridization between PM25 and high oil content genotypes from cluster I, such as Sanjukta Asech and Kranti, is proposed to produce segregants with high yield, oil content and early maturity.\u0000

Methods: The current study was conducted under laboratory conditions for the period from 2023-4 to 2023-8 in the Plant Protection Laboratory in the Diyala Agriculture Directorate, Iraq. Different concentrations of 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 µL-1 air for exposure period of 24, 48 and 72 hours. Result: Larval mortality rates reached 100% at concentrations of 8 and 10 µL L-1 air for Eucalyptus and Artemisia, respectively. The mortality rate increases with increasing concentration in adults, where the highest killing rate was recorded at 8.10 µL L-1 air, reaching 90% and 100% for Artemisia, while it reached 96.6% and 100% for Eucalyptus, respectively. Mortality rates were high throughout the duration of the first exposure and these rates increased as the exposure period increased to 48 hours and 72 hours, with the next highest killing rates for concentrations of 6, 8 and 10 µL L-1 air for Artemisia and Eucalyptus oils. There was no significant difference with pesticide treatment. This indicates the possibility of using essential oils in the applied field to manage pest populations in store products.\u0000

Optimization of nitrogen application is crucial in enhancing barley yield and nitrogen use efficiency while minimizing the negative effects of its intense application on human health and the environment. However, the crop yield response to nitrogen application rates differ under different irrigation conditions owing to the complementary relationship between nitrogen and water. Therefore, it is vital to study the impact of different nitrogen application rates on improving barley growth and yield under full as well as deficit irrigation to select the best field management option, thereby enhancing sustainable agriculture. Methods: The present study investigated the impact of three nitrogen application rates [0 (control), 50 and 100 kgN/ha)] at two irrigation rates corresponding to 100% and 75% crop evapotranspiration (ETc) on the growth, yield and nitrogen use efficiency of barley. Stable isotopic technique was used to determine the nitrogen use efficiency. Result: The nitrogen application rate enacted a significant impact on plant height, number of plants/m2, number of spikes/m2, biomass yield and nitrogen use efficiency; whereas irrigation rates significantly affected the plant height, number of plants/m2, spike length, number of spikes/m2, biomass yield, grain and straw yield. In addition, a significant interaction between irrigation and nitrogen was observed for all the studied parameters except plant height, spike length, straw yield and total nitrogen uptake. The deficit irrigation 75% ETc with 50 kgN/ha presented the highest nitrogen use efficiency (37.56%), but the total biomass yield was reduced by 37% in comparison to 100% ETc irrigation. Thus irrigation and fertilization combination of 100% ETc with 50 kgN/ha was identified as the best irrigation and fertilization practice producing highest biomass yield, grain yield and straw yield in barley with a nitrogen use efficiency of 20.48%.\u0000
