Several approaches offer conceivable improvements in running time by one hundred fold or more. A fluorescence photobleaching scheme in combination with ultra-thin gel slab or capillary electrophoresis which proposes to shorten the run time and to increase the resolution of multi-fragment DNA analysis is reviewed.
