In 2010, Lee and collaborators created a mini-implant-assisted rapid maxillary expansion (MARPE) technique. Objectives: To describe the MARPE protocol and its clinical effects. Materials and methods: A bibliographic search was carried out in the Pubmed, Science Direct, Scielo and Google Scholar databases referring to the last 10 years. Results: The search strategies described enabled 150 articles to be obtained which went through various selection stages. In the end, 15 articles were evaluated and selected for this review. Discussion: The MARPE technique has reduced the skeletal, dento-alveolar and periodontal side effects caused by conventional appliances, optimizing the potential for skeletal expansion in individuals with advanced stages of skeletal maturation. Conclusion: The MARPE appliance has bone and dental anchorage. The clinical effects include the opening of the maxilla in the frontal plane, an increase in the volume of the nasal cavity after expansion, an increase in the interzygomatic distance, an increase in the average width of the face and the width of the alar base and widening of the nose. There was also a decrease in buccal bone thickness and alveolar crest height and a buccal inclination in the premolars and molars. In carrying out this research, we found that there are few or practically no studies on the effect on the pulp cavity, root resorption and orbital volume.","PeriodicalId":506230,"journal":{"name":"RevSALUS - Revista Científica da Rede Académica das Ciências da Saúde da Lusofonia","volume":"27 8","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141704692","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Objectives: To identify postural alterations in adolescents with refractive errors; investigate the relationship between screen time, physical activity (PA), and lifestyle with RE and posture; and compare postural differences between genders and levels of PA. Materials and Methods: A descriptive, cross-sectional correlational study was conducted. Twelve adolescents aged 12 to 18 of both genders participated, undergoing postural evaluation using the SAPO protocol. Descriptive analysis was performed for sample characterization. The t’student test was employed to compare postural alterations between genders and PA levels, and the Spearman correlation coefficient was used to assess the relationship between screen time, PA, lifestyle, RE, and postural alterations. Results: Postural alterations were identified in different RE. Gender differences were observed only in the Q angle of the knee (females exhibited more pronounced valgus), and significant correlations were found between the horizontal alignment of the head and screen time for other devices, except the mobile phone. Conclusion: Postural alterations were identified in the head, elevation of the acromion, pelvic elevation and anteversion, trunk inclination, and knee misalignment in individuals with RE. Valgus of the knees was more prevalent in females, and a relationship was observed between the horizontal misalignment of the head and screen time.","PeriodicalId":506230,"journal":{"name":"RevSALUS - Revista Científica da Rede Académica das Ciências da Saúde da Lusofonia","volume":"21 12","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140413617","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

After the COVID-19 pandemic started in 2020, it was necessary to implement control measures that also affected RSV activity. Objectives: Study the epidemiological profile of RSV in paediatric patients who attended Centro Hospitalar Póvoa de Varzim - Vila do Conde, from September 1, 2019, to March 31, 2022. Methodology: We studied the results of RSV screening by Polymerase Chain Reaction by consulting existing records in SISLAB®. Data analysis was performed in IBM SPSS Statistics 28. Results: The activity of RSV in the 2019/2020 season started on week 49 of 2019 and ended on week 11 of 2020. In the 2020/2021 season, there were no cases of infection. RSV activity was recorded from week 24 of 2021 until week 3 of 2022. Regarding RSV infection in children under 13 months, it represented 57.1% of infection cases, between 2019 and 2020, and 24.3% between 2021 and 2022. Conclusion: The absence of RSV activity coincided with the implementation of COVID-19 control measures. We registered an inter-seasonal outbreak of RSV after those control measures were relaxed, thus observing an RSV epidemiological profile different from that normally recorded in Portugal.","PeriodicalId":506230,"journal":{"name":"RevSALUS - Revista Científica da Rede Académica das Ciências da Saúde da Lusofonia","volume":"21 5","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140409371","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It includes treatment with checkpoint inhibitors, monoclonal antibodies, chimeric antigen receptor T cells (CAR-T), and bispecific monoclonal antibodies (BsAbs). BsAbs are drugs composed of a single monoclonal antibody, which has two binding domains that can bind to two different antigens simultaneously, which is the great advantage of this therapy over others. Therefore, BsAbs have revolutionized clinical outcomes for different types of cancer, especially hematological ones, bringing good results and hope to patients with lymphomas, leukemias and multiple myeloma. Objective: The present research aims to provide an updated overview of BsAbs treatment applied to the main hematological neoplasms, as well as describe its classification and mechanism of action. Material and Methods: This is a literature review based on articles published in the last 9 years (2015-2023) in the PubMed database (Medline), relating hematological malignancies and BsAbs, using the keyword: “Bispecific antibody”. Results: A total of 1,530 articles were found, of which 48 were included in the development of this review article. Conclusions: BsAbs redirect the immune system cells action, generating a new therapeutic response, proving to be an innovative alternative in immunotherapy, being a vanguard option that combines molecular biology engineering and the immune system biological activity.","PeriodicalId":506230,"journal":{"name":"RevSALUS - Revista Científica da Rede Académica das Ciências da Saúde da Lusofonia","volume":"2016 18","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140416375","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Methods: This is an observational and retrospective cohort study. The population is composed of newly diagnosed patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus and Arterial Hypertension, at the beginning of treatment. Data was extracted from the Lisbon and Tagus Valley Regional Health Administration Information System. Medication adherence was assessed in three periods: patients started therapy or not after the professional's prescription (initiation); medication possession rate during the follow-up period (MPR) (implementation) and medication discontinuation, marks the end of therapy (discontinuation). Results: An initiation rate of 84.2% was obtained in patients with both diseases (98% for oral antidiabetic therapy and 84.6% for antihypertensive therapy). The implementation rates (MPR) for both diseases was only 3.4% (4.2% were considered adherent to oral antidiabetic therapy and 8.5% to antihypertensive therapy). The discontinuation rate was 3.4% (5.5% for oral antidiabetic therapy and 13.2% for antihypertensive therapy). Most patients initiate taking drugs after prescription but very few patients have a MPR enough to consider them having good adherence. Moreover, few patients discontinue the medication. Conclusions: Patients had a higher implementation rate to antihypertensive therapy but, on the other hand, were more persistent to the oral antidiabetic therapy. Through this new assessment, the medication adherence pattern seems to be influenced by the patient and by the disease itself.","PeriodicalId":506230,"journal":{"name":"RevSALUS - Revista Científica da Rede Académica das Ciências da Saúde da Lusofonia","volume":"25 47","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140408986","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Num núcleo académico (NA) que se pretende inclusivo e potenciador da diversidade dos seus elementos, estabeleceram-se critérios para este modelo como, gestão participativa, canais de comunicação claros, equidade e transparência nos processos de tomada de decisão e autonomia dos grupos de trabalho. A Sociocracia 3.0 (S3) foi escolhida como a tecnologia social adequada, para atender a estes critérios e permite navegar a complexidade, facilitar a colaboração e construir de organizações ágeis e resilientes (Priest, Bockelbrink, David, 2022; Czekaj, Walczak, Ziębicki, 2020). Objetivos: Analisar o processo de implementação de um modelo de governança e tomada de decisão para o funcionamento do NATO. Metodologia: Após selecionar a tecnologia social S3, identificaram-se ferramentas adequadas que não sobrecarregassem o sistema e as tarefas, optando-se por uma implementação faseada das mesmas. Inicialmente, criou-se um fluxograma para a comunicação e tomada de decisão nos grupos de trabalho e entre estes e os órgãos do NATO/RACS e incluíram-se check-in e check-out nas reuniões. Numa segunda fase, elaborou-se uma carta de princípios para orientar todas as ações do NATO. Estas abordagens envolveram todos os elementos de forma significativa. Resultados: Nesse processo, o NATO cresceu para 23 elementos de 5 instituições (4 de Portugal e 1 de Moçambique). Foram realizadas 9 reuniões gerais do NA, com uma média de 14 participantes. Organizaram-se duas Conferências Lusófonas de Terapia Ocupacional, participou-se em todas as reuniões internacionais da RACS e o NATO esteve representado em todas as reuniões com a comissão coordenadora dos núcleos académicos da RACS. No âmbito do NATO foram publicados 15 artigos e um suplemento na revista RevSALUS, respeitante à 1ªCLTO, com 28 publicações. Conclusões: Este modelo de trabalho permitiu interagir com os diversos órgãos de decisão e gestão da RACS, garantindo a participação equitativa, liberdade de expressão, transparência e sustentabilidade. Acreditamos que a implementação deste modelo teve um impacto significativo nos resultados alcançados no NATO.","PeriodicalId":506230,"journal":{"name":"RevSALUS - Revista Científica da Rede Académica das Ciências da Saúde da Lusofonia","volume":" 38","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139621751","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
