Among them, hornworts and liverworts are represented by 297 species, 5 subspecies and 4 varieties, united in 99 genera and 54 families, while mosses totalize 894 species, 13 subspecies and 31 varieties, grouped into 253 genera and 77 families. The lists include tabular distributional data by region, based on literature records and herbarium material, especially for rare and doubtful species. Similarly, it differentiates between reports before and after 1968, using the most recently published information when appropriate. Critical notes on distributional and taxonomical issues are included.","PeriodicalId":50612,"journal":{"name":"Cryptogamie Bryologie","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.8,"publicationDate":"2020-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"91084549","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"生物学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Six of these records are also new to South America. In addition, Trichostomum brachydontium Bruch is newly reported for continental Chile. Most species reported here correspond to ephemeral taxa, mostly visible only during the wet winter months (June-September). These results stress the need for further basic exploration of Chile bryophyte flora, and the urgent need to improve the cryptogamic collections in national herbaria. Acaulon uleanum Müll.Hal. and Ephemerum argentinicum Schiavone & Sarmiento are excluded from the bryophyte flora of Chile.","PeriodicalId":50612,"journal":{"name":"Cryptogamie Bryologie","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.8,"publicationDate":"2020-07-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75118272","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"生物学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Brid. ex Moug. & Nestl., i.e. 41 times more localities and 143 times more sporophytes than reported in the previous census carried out up to 2014. The recent occurrences of the species known at that time (two localities with four stands and 15 sporophytes) were found exclusively on decaying wood in old growth forests. However, in the light of 20th century herbarium data from Hungary and new observations in Central Europe, our survey was extended to include the soil of acidophytic, young and middle-aged, managed and disturbed forests, and the new populations were mainly found in these types of habitats, almost exclusively on acidic soil. Details of population size, habitat and substrate preference, and environmental conditions at the newly found stands are reported in this paper. If these unusual preferences (i.e. acidic soil in managed, acidophytic beech forests) are not confined to Hungary, the total population size of this Natura 2000 species listed in annex II of the Habitat Directive might be severely underestimated in Europe.","PeriodicalId":50612,"journal":{"name":"Cryptogamie Bryologie","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.8,"publicationDate":"2020-06-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82150874","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"生物学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This research aims to compare species richness pattern, species composition, and zonation of epiphytic bryophytes on tree trunks on two different slopes of Mt Gede, West Java, Indonesia. We established an elevational transect on the North-North-East (Cibodas) and the South-South-West (Selabintana) slopes of the mountain. The transects ranged from 1500 to 2700 m each and sampling was carried out at 200 m intervals. The Cibodas slope is richer than the Selabintana slope, with 160 species (71 mosses and 89 liverworts) compared to 149 species (57 mosses and 92 liverworts), respectively. Species richness pattern on both slopes showed quadratic responses for mosses and cubic responses for liverworts. Pairwise elevation comparison between slopes showed that species composition is significantly different except for the highest plot (2700 m). Pairwise elevation comparison within the two transects revealed significant species composition changes at different elevations, indicating the presence of an elevational zonation of epiphytic bryophytes along the slopes. Based on overall bryophyte species composition, five elevational zones were recognized on each slope.","PeriodicalId":50612,"journal":{"name":"Cryptogamie Bryologie","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.8,"publicationDate":"2020-05-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77590583","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"生物学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Recent findings about the influence of vegetation structure variation on epiphytic bryophyte assemblages suggest that the vertical gradient may also change among adjacent vegetation types. In order to analyze this influence, bryophytes were sampled in five zones from the base to the top of 24 host trees in Várzea and Igapó (flooded) and Terra Firme (non-flooded) vegetation. The species richness and diversity, distribution of guilds of tolerance to light incidence, floristic similarity, and turnover of species composition were evaluated within and between vegetation types. The vertical gradient was observed only in Igapó and Terra Firme. Species richness and diversity were higher at the base in flooded forests, and at the outer canopy in non-flooded forests. These zones also showed higher floristic similarities among vegetation types. The distribution of guilds explained the main patterns observed in assemblages. The spatial distribution of epiphytes in the studied forests is regulated by the interaction between the height zone and vegetation type, and light tolerance is one of the most important attributes explaining the distribution patterns of epiphytes in the Amazon.","PeriodicalId":50612,"journal":{"name":"Cryptogamie Bryologie","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.8,"publicationDate":"2020-03-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"91260253","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"生物学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
