Based on 400 assessed values of rural land property and on 21 characteristic variables of land amenities and facilities, the study compares three models: Ordinary Least Squares (ols), Spatial Lag Model (slm), and Spatial Error Model (sem). Results show that both slm and sem outperformed ols in identifying the significance of real estate attributes. Results shows that farmers value environmental amenities more than other attributes, being implicit the greater value of cattle over agriculture (onion) in land use. A group of stakeholders was interviewed in order to analyze whether its different stages have characteristics that support the implementation and achievement of its desired goals. A travers un travail de reconstitution historique des politiques hydriques de la region, l’article defend l’idee que la penurie d’eau actuelle doit se comprendre, en partie, comme le resultat de l’action des elites economiques, politiques et administratives qui ont concu les politiques hydriques aux USA. It sparked off great interest in Latin America. We analyse the role played by RTD principles in the dynamics and evolution of four rural areas in Spain and Nicaragua. In doing so, we provideempirical understanding on the validity of the principles to boost rural change and contribute to evidencebased policy-making.Methodologically, we explore the use of participatory prospective tools that apprehend rural areas’ evolving and complex nature. Las estimaciones econometricas senalan que la diversificacion resulta clave para incrementar los ingresos y, por tanto, la eficiencia economica. Cerca del 80% de los hogares analizados en la Encuesta Nacional se diversifica por motivo de sobrevivencia, mientras que el resto lo hace por acumulacion. We want to demonstrate that the existence of hegemony in the global agrifood system created a distance between those who produce and those who consume, with consequences for both sides; thus generating critic and response movements that propose new approach relationships between these spheres. On the other hand, there is a chasm between production and consumption from a theoretical/analytical point of view, and the sociology of feeding may be considered as a potential linking field to understand these dynamics.
