The aim of the study was to report the features and course of therapy of diabetic individuals admitted to a tertiary care facility with COVID-19 infection. Additionally, we tried to assess how hyperglycemia affected the clinical results. Methods: This study used observational methods to conduct a retrospective chart review of 125 cases from October 2021 to March 2022 at a single center. Results: Males made up 94.6% of the 125 examined cases. Within the age range of 21 to 78 years, the study group's average age was 49.6±10.4 years. Of the patients, 66.4% had prior knowledge of diabetes. When compared to pre-existing diabetes individuals with the newly diagnosed diabetes individuals, the latter had a higher death rate (p=0.03) and needed mechanical breathing (p=0.02). Conclusions: Hyperglycemia that is uncontrolled harms COVID-19-infected patients. There is an increased risk of hyperglycemia problems that have been discovered or unknown.to screen for cases of undiscovered diabetes in hospital patients, which may be especially relevant during the COVID-19 pandemic, optimal glycemia optimization is essential.","PeriodicalId":505944,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Research in Medical Sciences","volume":"13 16","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139148573","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A normal platelet count applicable to all adults is 150 to 400×109/l. Thrombocytosis develops when the platelet count exceeds 450×109/l. Thrombocytosis is classified into primary thrombocytosis and secondary (or extreme) thrombocytosis. Primary thrombocytosis is a chronic myeloproliferative disorder in which sustained megakaryocyte proliferation leads to an increase in the number of circulating platelets. Extreme thrombocytosis or reactive thrombocytosis, is defined as abnormally high platelet count in the absence of chronic myeloproliferative disease, secondary to an underlying events, disease, or the use of certain medications. Causes of reactive thrombocytosis include acute blood loss, acute infection, amputation, iron deficiency, asplenia, cancer, chronic inflammatory or infectious diseases. Secondary thrombocytosis resolves when the underlying event is managed. Extreme thrombocytosis may result in thromboembolic episode such as mesenteric vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism and acute myocardial infarction. In patients who survive after trauma the platelet count displays a bimodal response with an initial decrease below baseline values, followed by an increase above the normal range after 1 week. We report a similar experience of a trauma patient with reactive thrombocytosis and discussion on importance of thromboprophylaxis.","PeriodicalId":505944,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Research in Medical Sciences","volume":"143 10‐12","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139149349","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The cause of DFSP remains unknown. The case of a 54-year-old female patient with a diagnosis of Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans is presented, displaying a typical clinical presentation. It is characterized by an initial lesion in the form of a reddish spot on the anterior region of the chest, which showed slow growth until the development of a multinodular and irregular lesion with multiple recurrences. The lesion is resected, confined to the superficial layers of the skin, with 3 cm margins, confirming the histopathological diagnosis of dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans with clear margins. DFSP is an uncommon cutaneous sarcoma that is typically low- to intermediate-grade, and while it has a limited likelihood of metastasis, it exhibits a notable tendency for local recurrence. The risk of recurrence is closely linked to the extent of surgical resection.","PeriodicalId":505944,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Research in Medical Sciences","volume":"324 11","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139152474","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The effect on the kidney results in the dysregulation of the electrolyte causing electrolyte imbalance. Methods: An analytical cross-sectional study conducted at a tertiary teaching hospital aimed at assessing the levels and severity of electrolyte imbalance among BPH patients. The blood samples were analyzed for electrolytes and PSA levels for both patients and control group. An Independent t-test was used to compare the means of the BPH patients and healthy control subjects. Chi-square was used to determine the association between the electrolyte imbalance and the PSA levels of the BPH patients. Results: The mean age of the BPH patients and the healthy individuals was 65.47±12.55 and 64.52±12.19 years respectively. Hyponatremia, and hypernatremia were observed in 26.08% (n=104) and 4.22% (n=8) of the BPH patients respectively. There was a statistical significance positive correlation between potassium (K) and sodium (Na) concentrations (r=0.350, p<0.01), as well as a notable positive association between chloride (Cl) and magnesium (Mg) levels (r=0.288, p<0.01). PSA biomarker levels varied among the patients. There was a statistical significance (<0.0001*) difference in PSA levels between the BPH patients and the control group. Conclusions: With high prevalence of electrolyte imbalance among BPH patients there is a need to monitor the electrolytes and PSA levels in the management of BPH aiming at restoration of kidney function.","PeriodicalId":505944,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Research in Medical Sciences","volume":"34 10","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139149919","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Few or no gastrointestinal symptoms and a predominance of extra-intestinal features, including liver, kidney, skeletal, psychiatric, neurologic, dermatologic, hematologic, endocrinological, and reproductive involvements, define the atypical forms of the disease. Through screening high-risk groups, silent presentations of CD may be found. It is crucial for healthcare professionals to have a high level of suspicion for the atypical presentations of CD because it is now well known that CD may account for a number of chronic health issues.","PeriodicalId":505944,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Research in Medical Sciences","volume":"31 9","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139149985","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This ranges from its absence, the most common variant, to having multiple insertions or muscular bellies. The aim of the study is to highlight the uncommon anatomical variant diagnosed as an incidental finding and to contribute to the statistics of this type of pathology in our country. A case is reported involving a 14-year-old patient with no significant medical history who sustained a cut injury. Surgical exploration through the previous wound was conducted by the plastic surgery department at the General Hospital of Mexico (2023). The incidental finding revealed complete laceration of both tendons of the palmaris longus muscle, prompting the repair of both tendons. The bifid palmaris longus is a rare anatomical anomaly, not previously described in the statistics of our country. Therefore, the significance of reporting this anatomical variant as an incidental finding is noteworthy.","PeriodicalId":505944,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Research in Medical Sciences","volume":"73 6","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139150115","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
