Through a visual text analysis approach rooted in social semiotic theory with literature study, the study examines 27 advertisements predominantly from Western countries (Specifically France and Italy), analyzing elements such as visual composition, gendered representations, and societal implications. The analysis of the sampled images reveals stereotypical representations of male and female sexuality, conveyed through the use of sexuality and gender concepts. For male consumers, exposure to these representations may lead to the internalization of these ideals, influencing their self-image and behavior. These representations not only maintain existing power differentials but also hinder progress towards gender equality and challenging societal norms.","PeriodicalId":505583,"journal":{"name":"Devotion : Journal of Research and Community Service","volume":"9 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140980557","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper also tries to elaborate on the potential problems in the city as well as the urban planning policy which are associated with the spatial structure identified. The data used are the maps of administrative and built-up area and the distribution of population and service center by spatial units in Manado. The parameters of density profile examined are the administrative and built up density and the accessibility distance to the city center from the service center of the spatial units. By interpreting the existing density profile based on some relevant theoretical premises, the spatial structure type and its associative problems and policy can be identified. The result shows that the spatial structure of Manado municipal tends to be monocentric in certain boundary from the city center, but start shifting to polycentric pattern in the peri-urban zone. This characteristic is associated with some potential problems such as acute traffic congestion, air pollution, emerging of slum and squatter and the increased risk of disasters, specifically on downtown area. In the peri-urban zone, the potential significant problems is the phenomenon of sprawling and all its associated impacts such as fragmentation of green open space, increased dependence on private vehicles and increased investment and maintenance costs for infrastructure.","PeriodicalId":505583,"journal":{"name":"Devotion : Journal of Research and Community Service","volume":"126 2","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140443691","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This is related to their livelihood, namely fishermen. Even though most already occupy land, fishermen still choose land close to the beach. The research aims to discover the essential things in their lives as a process of adaptation to the residential environment. The method used is naturalistic qualitative research by selecting several samples of residential houses on land and those that still choose land above water as cases to be analyzed. Even though there have been changes in occupying residential land, the Bajo tribe still has several adjustments regarding the placement of their homes, which are incredibly close to water or the coast. Residential houses on coastal land still have a back room facing the sea as the main room and are shaped like a house on stilts, while the front faces the road as a space for social interaction. Residential houses that occupy land and highways are the primary orientation and areas for social interaction. Although there is still a back room, it is not the main room. The shape of the building has changed both in structure and building materials. Almost all buildings on the land are permanent, consisting of several rooms, functioning as a bedroom, living room, etc.. In contrast, houses that occupy water land still use wood, bamboo, and woven sago leaf roofs and only have a onebedroom family room equipped with a back terrace.","PeriodicalId":505583,"journal":{"name":"Devotion : Journal of Research and Community Service","volume":"14 11","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140442630","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This village has a relatively flat topographic condition, as well as being one of the areas of Majapahit descent. The rapid development of tourist accommodation that currently occurs in Canggu, has an impact on the high conversion of land use, and the disruption of local community settlements. Seeing this fact, it is considered necessary to make an evaluation study on the development of spatial planning which will later be used as input in determining spatial land use control policies in Canggu Village. This research uses qualitative methods, case studies using field observation techniques and interviews, which are then compared with literature reviews in the form of regional spatial policy studies and relevant theories. The analysis was conducted on the residential area of Canggu Village, which aimed to determine the main causes of land use change and displacement of local community settlements. From the results of the analysis, which is then compared with literature studies, it is expected to be able to find a solution to preserve the urgency of local community settlements. The results of the analysis show that the implementation of spatial concepts sourced from culture is more respected by the community compared to local government policies. The hulu-teben concept as the basis for the preservation of settlement spatial values derived from the Tri Hita Karana cultural philosophy, is considered very effective and feared by the community because it is related to social sanctions that must be borne by the community, which are outlined in pararem.","PeriodicalId":505583,"journal":{"name":"Devotion : Journal of Research and Community Service","volume":"144 3","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140443665","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Land function data in this study uses data sourced from the USGS (United States Geological Survey) Landsat-5 TM Imagery web and also Google Earth Pro Data, the data is in the form of historical image data with 10-year intervals and starting from 2003 to 2023. In 20 years there has been an increase in the area of built-up land for settlement functions in each village. The function of plantation land has been reduced in area as a result of settlement development. Meanwhile, sandy coastal land has also experienced a reduction in area as a result of sea waves and abrasion. The results showed that Atep Oki Village had experienced the farthest coastal setback of 42.28 m, while Kamenti Village and Parentek Village, respectively as far as 27.27 m and 23.33 m. These findings have confirmed the impact of waves that damaged the coast of Atep Oki village in 2013. It also shows that the abrasion process will be continue on the coast of Atep Oki village and its surroundings. The measured coastline setback distance is around 23 - 43 meters which causes a reduction in the area of residential land as well as damage to house buildings, road infrastructure and boundary embankments. Residents must move their residence to an area that is safer from the threat of waves and abrasion processes. Damaged house buildings especially those made of wood and plywood require repair costs while most residents have limited income as farmers, cultivators and fishermen. This condition causes the threat of loss of living environment and increased spending due to abrasion disaster adaptation efforts.","PeriodicalId":505583,"journal":{"name":"Devotion : Journal of Research and Community Service","volume":"236 4","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140443160","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
