The authors’ reality is that which is inscribed in their writing and determines what they call their truth; their history has emerged from memory and this new perception annuls previous affirmations. The autobiography of the Cuban poet, Dulce María Loynaz, that is, Fe de vida, would come close to these postulates. This “story of her life”, which aspires to talk about her second husband and not about herself, deserves a careful reading where clues could emerge that point towards other discursive purposes. When questioned about her definition of happiness, the poet assured that she had not considered herself happy and that, if she could, she would choose another life unlike the one she lived; one should meditate if that other desired life is the one that emerges in her memories. This work explores approaches to concepts pointed out as autobiographical without ruling out the possibility that Loynaz pursues other purposes in her Fe de vida.","PeriodicalId":505499,"journal":{"name":"46 | 120 | 2023","volume":"54 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139169415","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Diversity, however, does not mean randomness, and despite any particular circumstances, it may be argued that this list of translated works suggests that Bento had a clear idea of what should be made available in Portuguese translation as key texts of Spanish literature, including both classical and modern authors, titles and genres. The translator’s comments to his published translations show that they were intended for a large Portuguese audience of the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries, the most emblematic statement being that the anthologies he organized were “neither erudite nor didactic” (Bento 2001: 728). This article will focus on José Bento’s selection, translation and paratextual comment of several Spanish literary works, eventually taking into account he was also a published poet, with clear ideas about literary reading and creative writing. This will allow us to discuss some specificities of the translation of Spanish literature into Portuguese, as well as Bento’s conceptualization of the translator’s task as a reader and re-writer of the Iberian literary tradition.","PeriodicalId":505499,"journal":{"name":"46 | 120 | 2023","volume":"409 ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139170079","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Paratexts are a valuable instrument, sometimes even better than the actual translation, in order to verify how the source cultural and literary systems are represented. In this case, by examining the paratextual elements, the representation of Brazilian women and of Brazil in general is presented, as well as the status of the translation and the translation agents involved in the process, the rewarded translatress Giuliana Segre Giorgi and the publishing houses.","PeriodicalId":505499,"journal":{"name":"46 | 120 | 2023","volume":"20 12","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139168516","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This mistrust is brought out by the wavering narration and the employ of an unreliable narrator, as well as by the author’s reflections on translation. This article will review the theoretical positions that Saizarbitoria has maintained and expressed in books and interviews: starting from the idea of translating developed in his own work, he offers a rich speculation about the function of translation in the Basque literary system. In addition, the author’s ideas about translation that appear in his novel Martutene (2012) will be analysed, namely embodied in the character Julia. The aim is to describe the grounds and forms of the wide space of representation that opens up between language and reality. Therefore, the translation practices developed by Julia will be commented upon, since translation is described as the space in which the gap between language and reality is produced in a more stable way. Through the fictional character Julia and her translation work, Saizarbitoria presents several of his own opinions and obsessions about the proper use of language in the search for the “exact name” of things.","PeriodicalId":505499,"journal":{"name":"46 | 120 | 2023","volume":"7 3","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139168804","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The poet, who made recurring trips to Italy, was also known for his work Poesía española. Antología 1915-1931 (1932), which served as a model not only for the anthologies of Spanish poetry by Bo, Macrì and Bodini, but also for those of contemporary Italian poetry. Diego's interest in Italian cities and their art is manifested in many of his compositions, but the article privileges the comparison of the Spaniard's sonnet \"Insomnio\" with Leopardi's idyll \"La sera del dì di festa\" on the basis of the common lunar theme, examining their mutual poetic mastery, but emphasizing the diversity of their existential condition.","PeriodicalId":505499,"journal":{"name":"46 | 120 | 2023","volume":"5 2","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139167991","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
