LAHS is a rare condition characterized by easily removable anagen hair without any sensation of pain. It primarily affects young girls and is associated with a sparse hair growth and a delicate hair texture. LAHS can occur spontaneously or be inherited in an autosomal recessive manner. On the other hand, TTM, also known as hair pulling disorder, is an obsessive-compulsive disorder characterized by the recurrent, overwhelming urge to repeatedly pull out one’s hair. Hair pulling can occur anywhere on the body but is most common on the scalp, eyebrows, and eyelashes and subsequently results in bald patches. It is linked to psychosocial impairment and a decrease in the overall quality of life. We present a case of 14-year-old female with a longstanding history of sparse and disorderly hair since childhood due to LAHS associated with TTM. Treatment involved topical minoxidil and psychiatric counseling, resulting in significant improvement initially. However, a relapse was observed a year later, emphasizing the complexity of managing this dual pathology.","PeriodicalId":505497,"journal":{"name":"Cosmoderma","volume":" 31","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140994004","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Every industry in the world has been greatly impacted by the development of technology, which has improved people’s quality of life. With the advent of AI, even 10 years old can now use smartphones to conquer the world by simplifying complex jobs. AI has made a substantial contribution to the health-care industry as well, sparking debates about whether robots may or may not eventually replace doctors in the medical field. Interestingly, AI additionally has made important advances in the field of dermatology. Through its discovery of applications that can predict a person’s skin type and the products they should use to achieve “perfect skin,” AI has greatly targeted its audience in the esthetics space, where people are most concerned with the health of their bodies and hair. AI has also developed strong relationships with these people and provided excellent advice for skin-related concerns. However, the question of whether individuals are mistreating their skin or relying too much on AI to address their skin troubles remains. Certain applications use the beauty calculator based on face symmetry, which can have a drastic impact on one’s self-confidence. These commercials may also instill false hope, and they may even be an advertising strategy used by the gods of the metaverse. Applications that give predictions regarding skin health can also create a state of anxiety in people who use them. This article examines whether AI has had a discernible effect on skin health, how it may influence cosmetic dermatology in the future, how accurate AI is in diagnosing conditions and recommending treatments, and whether we should rely on AI in the future for dermatological issues.","PeriodicalId":505497,"journal":{"name":"Cosmoderma","volume":"34 3","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141013140","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, due to their widespread usage, there are an increasing number of adverse effects also being reported. These have been reported both in the users as well as service providers (nail salon workers/technicians). Adverse effects to nail cosmetics usually present to dermatologists, who need to be equipped to suspect, diagnose, and manage them. A whole range of newer nail cosmetic products are available now, which can lead to a variety of adverse reactions. These may be early and hence easy to temporally correlate with cosmetic usage; or have a delayed onset making it difficult to correlate with the nail cosmetic used. Varying presentations include onycholysis, infections, allergic dermatitis, psoriasiform nail changes, and systemic adverse effects. The range of clinical manifestations, prevention, and management of nail cosmetic-related adverse effects are detailed in this review.","PeriodicalId":505497,"journal":{"name":"Cosmoderma","volume":"85 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141016130","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
