A total of 17 species were recorded from burrows of rabbit and 9 from those of fox. Spelobia talparum (Richards, 1927) and S. pseudonivalis (Dahl, 1909) are considered pholeobiont (= eucoenic) and Spelobia czizeki (Duda, 1918) pholeophilous to pholeobiont species in this habitat. Comparison of these two communities with those recorded from other mammal subterraneous habitats in Europe revealed that most similar are those from the same locality irrespective of the host mammal species or the size of the burrow. The species spectrum of European Sphaeroceridae recorded from mammal burrows is reviewed and discussed. Minilimosina (Minilimosina) speluncana sp. n. is described on males found in rabbit burrow and its relationship and habitat association are discussed.","PeriodicalId":50520,"journal":{"name":"Entomologica Fennica","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41465117","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We provide information on the life history of Nemophora bellela (Walker, 1863), a circumpolar adelid species occurring in northern Europe on peat bogs and open tundra with Betula nana. The habitat is described and details of the larval behavior and larval diet are provided. The later instar larvae are case dwelling and feed on the ground on detritus. The larval case and chaetotaxy are described in detail. The female pupal exuviae is described. Our observations on the life history of N. bellela are in general agreement with the known details of the life history of related species, but some differences were also observed.","PeriodicalId":50520,"journal":{"name":"Entomologica Fennica","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-08-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43506028","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The abundances are analysed in relation to eight forest conditions. New information about associations of the following five species was found. Poecilus versicolor was most abundant in sparse forest sites and on moist sandy soil. Pterostichus melanarius reached its maximum abundance on sites with a thick litter layer, mesohygrophilous condition, clay soils and a sparse herbaceous layer. Pterostichus niger reached maximum abundance in forests with mesohygrophilous and hygrophilous conditions and on sandy loam soils. Abundance of Pterostichus oblongopunctatus was at the highest on sites with a closed tree canopy, a thin litter layer and loamy soils of average salinity. Pterostichus ovoideus was most abundant in forests with low to average litter depth, hygrophilous conditions and loamy soils oflow to average salinity. For Poecilus sericeus and Poecilus cupreus the results ofthis study agreed with the published information.","PeriodicalId":50520,"journal":{"name":"Entomologica Fennica","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-08-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49075507","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The weevils, captured by the beating tree-top method, belonged to nine species of Curculionoidea. To describe their respective damage, feeding studies were performed by supplying leaves of Quercus ilex and Q. suber as food. To each beetle, one hardened leaf and one sprout of each oakplant species were supplied for knowing differences in feeding damage related to age of leaves. The essaywas performed with eight replicates for each weevil species. Three of the nine species caught did not feed and eventually died during the experiment. The observations indicate that the most of the species can consume indifferently leaves of Q. ilex and Q. suber and that hole-feeding and skeletonising were the most common damage.","PeriodicalId":50520,"journal":{"name":"Entomologica Fennica","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-08-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47778469","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is the first record of the genus in Russia and the northernmost record in the entire range. The new species is most similar to T. sadamotoi Yoshida & Ogata, 2016 from Japan. Figures are provided for both species. The male palp of T. sadamotoi was studied with a SEM. It was found that palpal sclerites in T. sadamotoi and other Tekellina species are incorrectly homologized. Judging from the structure of the male palp and the female palpal claw, Tekellina seems to be misplaced in Theridiidae and belongs elsewhere.","PeriodicalId":50520,"journal":{"name":"Entomologica Fennica","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-08-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41462155","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The results of molecular identification were confirmed by morphological identification. Additionally, natural populations were screened for the prevalence of Wolbachia. Five out of 21 populations were infected by the same Wolbachia strain, which was identified by using Wolbachia wsp gene and multilocus sequencing approach. In four out of six studied species, 2005 was less favourable than 2004. Spring activity in the urban habitat started earlier than in the suburban or forested ones. A better understanding of urban green infrastructures in biodiversity assessments may need the study of seasonality in order to distinguish whether the bioindicator’s responses are to habitat quality or stochastic seasonal events.","PeriodicalId":50520,"journal":{"name":"Entomologica Fennica","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-08-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42067833","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
