Erfgoedvorming kan overal plaatsvinden. Vanuit deze definitie van erfgoed stellen wij drie vragen bij de populaire televisieseries Het verhaal van Nederland en Het verhaal van Vlaanderen:\u00001. Welke objecten, plaatsen en praktijken worden als erfgoed naar voren geschoven, en hoe gebeurt dit? 2. Door wie worden ze van betekenis voorzien?3. Wat betekent dit voor (collectieve) identiteitsvorming?\u0000Wij komen tot de conclusie dat er in de serie weinig wordt gereflecteerd op de keuzes die gemaakt zijn bij de selectie van historische plaatsen, voorwerpen en gebeurtenissen. Ook is er weinig aandacht voor de uiteenlopende groepsgebonden betekenissen die zich aan de geselecteerde items kunnen hechten. De boodschap die in beide series doorklinkt, lijkt te zijn dat de mensen die hier vroeger leefden niet wezenlijk anders waren dan de mensen die hier nu leven. I focus on three domains that are important to public historians. First, I will discuss the production contexts of both series, because they determine the framework wherein historians provide their expertise. I then analyse the maintained narrative techniques and how they shape the content, and whether or not these techniques distort the historical narrative.
