Among the 25 species recorded, two are first records for the Fauna Austriaca, and a further 10 for the Federal State Niederösterreich. A redescription and neotype designation is given for Hydryphantes dispar v. Schaub, 1888. The curious observation of a water mite larva parasitizing the deutonymph of another water mites species is reported.","PeriodicalId":504865,"journal":{"name":"Ecologica Montenegrina","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141802313","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Each year, one maximum of the phytoplankton NPP (280–820 mg C·m-3·day-1) was observed in July, when the water temperature ranged from 22 to 25 °C, and solar radiation intensity was 48–50 E·m-2·day-1. Large diatoms and dinoflagellates played a key role in its formation. At this time, the values of the net phytoplankton growth rate were 0.3–1.0 day-1, and the relative share of primary production consumed by microzooplankton (g/m) did not exceed 26%. In December – February, when the water temperature was 8.0–13.5 °C and the intensity of solar radiation was 10–15 E·m-2·day-1, the NPP decreased to a minimum (4–38 mg C·m-3·day-1). Under these conditions, the net phytoplankton growth rate decreased to 0–0.40 day-1, and g/m was 15–100%. For three years at station 2, the contribution of large algae with cell volumes from 4000 to 18000 µm3 in the NPP was significantly higher than at station 1. It was 61.1 % in 2020, 69.7 % in 2021 and 23% in 2022. The consumed NPP for this size group of algae was 54 % in 2020, 68.4 % in 2021 and 47.8 % in 2022.","PeriodicalId":504865,"journal":{"name":"Ecologica Montenegrina","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141811129","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We studied the species composition and the seasonal fluctuations of the enchytraeid communities in a four-year alfalfa plantation and its boundary zone in the valley of Kopaida, Central Greece for a period of one year. The population densities were recovered at 15 cm depth. There were remarkable seasonal changes in the population densities that took their highest value in autumn and their lowest in summer in both soils. The composition of the plantation community consisted of two distinct species with opportunistic life strategy and developed higher density compared to the boundary zone. The boundary zone harbored four species which mainly had robust, long living developmental pattern. We concluded that the specific characteristics of the dominant plant species were the most decisive differentiating factor determining the enchytraeid communities, followed by the cultural practices.\u0000The results from the sucrose centrifugation method of extraction exhibited strong correlation with those of the cold wet extraction method without filtering. This indicates that sucrose centrifugation method can be safely used in quickly processing high number of samples and for the enchytraeid estimation in multidisciplinary research works.","PeriodicalId":504865,"journal":{"name":"Ecologica Montenegrina","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141639913","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Livanow and Eduard A. Meyer. First, four specimens of Acanthobdella peledina Grube, 1851 (Acanthobdellidae) from Lake Onega (Vologda Region, Russia) represent the remaining part of a sample collected by N. A. Livanow in 1902 and used for preparation of his classical monograph on the morphology and anatomy of this species (Livanow 1906). A. peledina was once common in the lake but it was not recorded there since the 1930s that may indicate a local extinction event. Second, two specimens of Hirudo medicinalis Linnaeus, 1758 (Hirudinidae) from Kazan (Tatarstan, Russia) were collected by E. A. Meyer in 1891, whereas this species was not rediscovered in the city and its environs, probably due to habitat loss. Third, a specimen of Glossiphonia grubei (Lukin & Epshtein, 1959) (Glossiphoniidae) was collected from the Maloe More Strait of Lake Baikal by V. P. Garjaew in 1899 and was misidentified as G. echinulata (Grube, 1871). To the best of our knowledge, it is the largest specimen of G. grubei ever discovered (body length = 52.0 mm and maximum body width = 15.8 mm). Field notes of the collector indicate that this species was sampled feeding on unspecified molluscs. This data suggest that Glossiphonia species endemic to Lake Baikal are associated with Mollusca, as do other species in this genus. Finally, our findings highlight that natural history museums house unique historical specimens, re-examination of which may provide new insights into local extinctions and ecological traits of individual species.","PeriodicalId":504865,"journal":{"name":"Ecologica Montenegrina","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141651059","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
