This paper presents an experimental study on thermal radiation to electrical energy conversion using pyroelectric material (PbZrxTi1-xO3 (PZT-5H)). Pyroelectric material was exposed to UV lamp with a constant frequency of 0.5 Hz and another surface of sample was continuously cooled via natural air fan (for generation continuous temporal gradient in material). Maximum value of stored energy was 1.75 µJ across 100 µF without load resistance. This methodology allows us to use not only experimental electrical field-polarization curve as classical models do, but also physical status of ferroelectrics. The methodology is based on the use of Fermi-Dirac distribution, from eight measured P–E curves of two ferroelectrics materials, the theoretical polarization-electrical field curve repeat experimental path very well. Yoo, Jie-Young Lee","doi":"10.1080/07315171.2017.1319748","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1080/07315171.2017.1319748","url":null,"abstract":"ABSTRACT In this study, in order to develop the composition ceramics for ultrasonic sensor application, Pb0.985Bi0.01(Co1/2W1/2)0.03(Ni1/3Nb2/3)0.09(ZrxTi1-x)0.88O3+0.25wt% CuO (abbreviated as PCW-PNN-PZT) system ceramics were prepared with the variations of x and then their phase microstructure, piezoelectric and dielectric characteristics were investigated with the variations of x. The compositions near the morphotropic phase boundary (MPB) appeared when x = 0.495. Moreover, the PCW-PNN-PZT ceramics could be sintered at low temperature of 920°C by adding sintering aids CuO. At sintering temperature of 920°C and x = 0.495 specimen, the density (ρ), electromechanical coupling factor(kp), dielectric constant (ϵr), mechanical quality (Qm) and piezoelectric constant (d33) piezoelectric figure of merit (d33·g33) indicated the optimal value of 7.94 g/cm3. 0.65, 1959, 356, 486 pC/N, and 15.56 [pm2/N], respectively, suitable for ultrasonic sensor application. Firstly, the admittance equation of transducer was deduced through combining the equivalent model of 1–3 piezoelectric composite with the electromechanical equivalent circuit of piezoelectric crystal thickness vibration. Then, the relations between bandwidth and the parameters of matching layer were summarized by the conductance curves. Finally, a composite transducer with matching layer was designed and fabricated. Experimental results show that the bandwidth reaches to 56 kHz and the mechanical quality factor Q drops to 1.8. Thermoluminescence and some of the dosimetric characteristics of Dy/Eu activated LiAlO2 were reported. Samples in powder form were exposed to γ-ray irradiation with 137 Cs source for both LiAlO2:Dy and LiAlO2:Eu phosphors were studied for the first time. In case of LiAlO2:Dy phosphor shows one peak at 287°C and small hump at 335°C. However; LiAlO2:Eu phosphor shows glow peak at 272°C with a shoulder peak around 329°C. The TL sensitivity in both the cases were compared with CaSO4:Dy phosphor.LiAlO2:Dy sample have shown 1.23 times less sensitive than CaSO4:Dy and for LiAlO2:Eu is 5.6 times less sensitive than CaSO4:Dy.The TL response in the 0.001-0.043Gy dose range increased linearly with increase in radiation dose for both the samples. Fading study has been also done for both the samples. Eu3+ activated BaSi6N8O phosphor was characterized by XRD, which confirms the formation of the sample. From the Scanning electron microscope (SEM) images, the surface morphology of the sample has been studied. The photoluminescence (PL) spectra of BaSi6N8O:Eu3+ phosphor exhibits two emission bands at 614 nm (5D0→7F2) and at 587 nm (5D0→7F1) with an excitation wavelength of 396 nm. From the FTIR spectrum, bonding of atoms to each other and vibrational motions of molecules has been studied. ML was studied by dropping a piston on irradiated sample. From the ML glow curves single peak has been observed. ML intensity increases with activator concentration. This paper considers the thermal energy harvesting using Ca0.15(Sr0.5Ba0.5)0.85Nb2O5 (CSBN) pyroelectric ceramics. Hot/cold air was used to generate a continuous temporal temperature profile on the material surfaces. The maximum open circuit voltage was observed as 0.26V. The maximum stored energy was 1.9 μJ in 47 μF capacitor (without load resistance). In this work, Polymer (PEG-200) modified MOSD process route is developed to produce cracks free (Ba0.6, Sr0.4) TiO3 Thick film on Low loss ST-X quartz substrate. Structural and electrical characteristics of the deposited films were investigated using Atomic Force Microscope, X-Ray Diffraction, C-V and C-F characterizations. XRD characterization conformed the single BST phase with polycrystalline nature of the film. AFM analysis depicted equiaxed shaped grains with average grain size and roughness of 120 nm and 4.15 nm respectively. Dielectric tunability, dielectric constant and loss tangent of the deposited films were 36.46%, 310 and 0.0213 respectively at 1 MHz frequency using MIM capacitive structure where conductive oxide LNO was used as bottom electrode. The applicability of polymer modified BST thick films over low loss substrate as composite substrate for tunable microstrip antenna applications at microwave frequency was demonstrated by design, fabrication and testing of a compact frequency tunable microstrip antenna in coplanar configuration.
