The research method in this study includes the four steps. Step 1: Identifying internal and external sustainable factors using the Delphi technique; Step 2: Designing an analytic hierarchy process and calculating the weights of internal and external factors using SPSS 26 software; Step 3: Creating the internal factor and external factor evaluation and determining the final weights; Step 4: Model design and the analysis of strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. Quantitative strategic planning matrix analysis has been used to prioritize and identify the attractiveness of each of the designed strategies. By forming a quantitative strategic planning matrix, the existing twelve strategies have been prioritized. Based on the quantitative strategic planning matrix analysis, the priority of strategy selection includes: 1) The scenario of the construction of resistant infrastructure and creating the necessary regulations to strengthen and support construction projects with a score of 1.94 was ranked first. 2) The scenario of applying creativity and human resources experience to increase the productivity of construction projects with a score of 1.90 was ranked second. 3) The scenario of human resource training in order to enhance the expertise in the construction management complex with a score of 1.89 was ranked third. In this study, sustainable factors have been evaluated very accurately through quantitative strategic planning matrix, which has not been done more research so far. The study recommends implementing strength-opportunities (SO) strategies to improve construction projects in the Rasht urban area.","PeriodicalId":504488,"journal":{"name":"Green and Low-Carbon Economy","volume":"46 10","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-08-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141928269","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The area presented in the paper is atypical, although it presents some recurring characteristics in other intermediate areas close to Italian metropolitan areas. It is an area near of Naples, in the region of Campania, which gravitates around the Royal Bourbon Site of Carditello with a past of considerable historical interest and an unfortunate recent past, which has led it to be in a particularly disadvantaged condition. The paper deals with a topic with little reference literature, at least as far as the Italian reality is concerned; mixed areas, partly 'intermediate' and partly 'Belt'. After a careful Swot analysis, adapted to the territorial context of the area under consideration, focusing on its considerable potential, pointing out some problematic nodes and indicating ways to overcome them, seizing and creating some opportunities for possible sustainable development, the paper proposes a perspective scenario that aims at the sustainable enhancement of the area.","PeriodicalId":504488,"journal":{"name":"Green and Low-Carbon Economy","volume":"114 48","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141666012","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The so-called \"carbon-neutral\" renewable energy source biomass appears to be a promising replacement for fossil fuels. The \"Combined Energy and Biosphere Model\" (CEBM), was developed as a method for calculating the atmospheric CO2 content after intensive use of biomass. It includes (i) a biosphere part computing the annual cycle of carbon in the biosphere on 2,433 grid elements covering the continents’ plant mass and soil, as well as (ii) an energy economic part for calculating the fossil CO2 emissions of 119 countries. As the history of understanding the carbon cycle (including quantification of plant growth and decay by formulae, inclusion of deforestation, fossil fuel use and the fertilizer effect) shows, such a global carbon cycle model (as the CEBM) provides the needed methodology to assess the net effects of large-scale biomass energy use on the plant’s atmosphere. Results show that biomass (in a systemic view) is “only half as carbon neutral” as previously thought, even on a principal level. The conclusions indicate that (even if biomass is a valuable mitigation strategy) its global potential is limited. When interpreting CEBM scenarios, as a very first priority, reducing the current annual increase in energy demand is most highly needed for preserving climate.","PeriodicalId":504488,"journal":{"name":"Green and Low-Carbon Economy","volume":"4 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140963355","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Power is transmitted through towers and lines that span hundreds or even thousands of kilometers. To ensure the health, stability of ecosystems and our quality of life, we must protect the environmental areas where transmission lines intersect. Given the global challenges related to sustainability, the conservation of natural resources and the mitigation of climate change, these studies are imperative. Through graph algorithms, especially vertex degree search and depth-first search, we identify alternative routes, avoiding sensitive regions such as conservation areas within the 440kV transmission networks of São Paulo, Brazil. By reallocating energy transport, we can ensure net-work maintenance and reduce environmental impacts from potential accidents. The results highlight the sustainable planning of transmission lines, aligning energy needs with Brazilian environmental conservation efforts, including the Rio State Park Peixe, Aguapeí State Park, Itapetinga State Park and Itaberaba State Park. Combining existing environmental laws with the promotion of sustainable technologies and practices, promoting more efficient use of resources while protecting the environment.","PeriodicalId":504488,"journal":{"name":"Green and Low-Carbon Economy","volume":"50 8","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140980648","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, CBAM is facing a lot of criticism ̶ as an unfair, protectionist measure that threatens the principles of multilateral trading system and has a disproportionately biased impact on the overall welfare of the low-income developing countries. In this context, the paper empirically examines the impact of the European Union’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism on its trading partners by using the CGE GTAP-E model. The impact has been assessed across three pathways – export sales of the trading partners, the emission intensity of the products, and the overall impact on the welfare of the European Union’s (EU’s) trading partners using the GTAP 11 database. The impact varies across countries and sectors. The model estimates indicate that due to the imposition of CBAM, countries with existing domestic carbon pricing mechanism experience marginal increase in welfare with the UK being an exception. Contrastingly, countries with no carbon pricing mechanism will experience a decrease in overall welfare. Countries with a higher share of the EU in their total export basket are affected in terms of their export sales. India’s cement sector export is affected the most due to the imposition of CBAM. However, India’s total amount of exports of cement to the EU’s market is negligible. India’s export of iron and steel to the EU constitutes a larger share but the impact of CBAM is found to be negligible on the same.","PeriodicalId":504488,"journal":{"name":"Green and Low-Carbon Economy","volume":"54 15","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140983695","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The framework using conventional empirical methodology (CO-STIRPAT, bootstrapping sampling, and system dynamics) is employed to project the paths of carbon emissions up to 2030. When the approach is applied to data in the Republic of Korea (ROK) presents that the effect of increasing the share of green energy alone may not be enough to achieve the NDC target by 2030. Additional efforts are required to adopt advanced climate technologies related to carbon intensity and energy efficiency, given the predicted economic conditions until 2030. Alternatively, it may be appropriate for the ROK to slow down the pace at which it raises its NDC. Our prediction framework can provide information that can motivate countries to reevaluate whether the ambition level of its target is compatible with the projected economic conditions and to set more reasonable goals in their subsequent NDCs.","PeriodicalId":504488,"journal":{"name":"Green and Low-Carbon Economy","volume":"137 4","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140369464","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this study, we utilize the \"New-type Urbanization Policy\" (NTUP) as a quasi-natural experiment to examine the influence of NTUP on carbon emissions using the difference-in-differences (DID). Our findings indicate that NTUP effectively reduces carbon emissions and enhances emission efficiency, with consistent results even after conducting rigorous tests and addressing endogeneity concerns. Furthermore, our analysis reveals that resource-based cities, eastern cities and small- and medium-sized cities benefit more from NTUP in terms of reducing carbon emissions and improving efficiency. The mediating effect demonstrates that NTUP's impact on carbon emissions primarily operates through three mechanisms: promoting industrial structure upgrading, reducing energy use and promoting green technology innovation. This research offers valuable insights for achieving urban low-carbon sustainable development through new-type urbanization initiatives.","PeriodicalId":504488,"journal":{"name":"Green and Low-Carbon Economy","volume":"35 17","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140373779","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One aspect that can possibly be considered in this context is the design of the building structure. The purpose of this case study is to investigate how the choice of a load-bearing system of building can affect the amount of concrete and steel reinforcement used in the foundation and its impact on the economy and environment. An alternative structural system of an existing building is proposed. The load-bearing frame walls and spread concrete foundations under walls are replaced by load-bearing timber columns that are placed on separate concrete footing pads. The results show that the amount of concrete and steel in the proposed system have considerably been decreased compared to the reference building. Consequently, this results in minimizing the construction costs as well as the resulting emissions of carbon dioxide into the environment.This case study reviews practical engineering design aspects that can be used by structural and construction engineers to help achieve sustainability goals of the built environment.","PeriodicalId":504488,"journal":{"name":"Green and Low-Carbon Economy","volume":"4 4","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140243288","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There have constantly been a lot of challenges to establish an entire fledge low carbon hydrogen economy in the past century. This study aims to critically analyse the economic, environmental, technological, and policy implementation and division of low-carbon hydrogen to find novel solutions, bridging the gaps and giving a perspective approach to the study. Differentiation of various low carbon hydrogen (LCH) components, including green and blue hydrogen, was also proposed based on the life cycle assessment emissions (LCAE). Current policy perspectives and Promised Pledged Perspectives are considered to project hydrogen demand in 2030. A thorough economic analysis of low-carbon hydrogen system technologies is also conducted from both hydrogen production and storage perspectives by comparing various production and storage systems. Current Policies towards LCH were critically viewed from policymakers, consumers, and R & D perspectives, through which several challenges, gaps, and keynote necessities were also stated.","PeriodicalId":504488,"journal":{"name":"Green and Low-Carbon Economy","volume":"29 7","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140252282","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The design of a two-jet air distributor is proposed, which forms a swirled and flat laying air jet, that provides intensive attenuation of air flow velocity and temperature in stationary and variable mode. Measures aimed at saving cold energy are considered, namely, air supply in a variable mode, use of the flooring effect, use of devices for intensification of tidal flow turbulence. A set of optimal measures for obtaining the maximum economic effect is determined. A method of development and calculation of inflow mechanical ventilation systems based on the specified air distributors is proposed. The economic evaluation of the use of air distribution devices proved that the use of a two-jet air distributor makes it possible to obtain some economic effect.","PeriodicalId":504488,"journal":{"name":"Green and Low-Carbon Economy","volume":"20 2","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139866700","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
