In this study, a Zr–O bond-mediated in situ growth strategy was proposed to precisely regulate the crystallization of UiO-66-NH2 on polyimide (PI) nanofibers. A Z/PI@UiO-66-NH2 nanofiber composite with a stable chemical structure was fabricated, exhibiting a 98.57% degradation rate for 2-chloroethyl ethyl sulfide (CEES) as well as excellent reusability. The uniform and robust loading of UiO-66-NH2 on the surface of PI nanofibers (loading rate: 52.28%) increased the surface roughness while preserving the original porosity of the fiber membrane, endowing the Z/PI@UiO-66-NH2 nanofiber composite membrane with a water contact angle of 152.8°. This indicates outstanding superhydrophobic and antifouling properties, coupled with a high water vapor permeability of 4897 m–2·d–1. Meanwhile, the extensively loaded MOF crystals imparted excellent flame-retardant performance to the composite, with a limiting oxygen index (LOI) reaching 29.30. Furthermore, the composite maintained a CEES degradation rate of >97% after exposure to acids, alkalis, high temperatures, and oil contamination, demonstrating robust environmental stability. The Z/PI@UiO-66-NH2 nanofiber composite developed in this study provides an approach for the design of self-disinfecting chemical protective fabrics integrating efficient degradation, flame retardancy, and antifouling capabilities.","PeriodicalId":504002,"journal":{"name":"ACS Applied Engineering Materials","volume":"3 12","pages":"4656-4667"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-12-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147898566","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Here, based on the combination of nanoscale structural and molecular composition design, the gradient hierarchically sandwich-like three-layered coating structures composed of carbon black resin bottom and porous middle layer and SiO2 top layer are designed through three steps all sprayed room temperature route. The effects of carbon black content and interface composition on adhesion, morphology, hydrophobicity, and light absorption properties of the coating were investigated. Remarkably, the proposed “light-capturing” porous architecture through cation−π interactions salt template route improved the light contact interface of air/adsorbent, and the finite-difference time-domain confirmed the optical/electrical field excitation of multiple higher-order resonances and thus enhanced scattering intensity, resulting in solar-weighted absorptance of 98.60% within the wavelength range of 200–2500 nm. Moreover, the freezing time of the droplets was delayed to 600 s at −20 °C, which is 12 times longer than that of the aluminum blank substrate, and it is 2.2 times superior to the previously reported antifreezing time of 271 s for CNT coatings. The development of high-performance underwater acoustic materials is constrained by the limited tunability of traditional microporous structures and the poor pressure stability of viscoelastic polymers. Here, we present a microporous composite structure enhanced by piezoelectric nanoparticle filling for efficient low-frequency sound absorption. This design integrates porous ceramics with microporous piezoelectric polymers to form a multilayer resonant system, wherein embedded nanocomposites facilitate additional sound reflection, resonance, and interfacial collisions. These interactions synergistically promote both acoustic-thermal and acoustic-electric energy dissipation, enabling high-efficiency low-frequency sound absorption within a compact architecture. The optimized structure achieves a noise reduction coefficient of 0.54, with the onset frequency of the sound absorption coefficient exceeding 0.8 as low as 840 Hz. Under hydrostatic pressure ranging from 0.1 to 2 MPa, the attenuation of the average sound absorption coefficient was only 36.62%, significantly lower than the 75.61% observed in conventional polyurethane. In addition, the acoustic–electric conversion property endowed composites with the capability to sense sound waves, while the composite’s lightweight, stress-resistant, and hydrophobic characteristics support mechanical stability and underwater applicability. This work achieves superior broadband absorption and excellent pressure stability, offering a compact, multifunctional solution for advanced acoustic systems.","PeriodicalId":504002,"journal":{"name":"ACS Applied Engineering Materials","volume":"3 12","pages":"4362-4371"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-11-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147914020","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Traditional methods for ionic cross-linking, such as casting or decantation, often result in nonuniform membranes with defects, such as holes, due to precipitation issues. Additionally, regulating the degree of ionic cross-linking is challenging, leading to less research focus compared to covalent cross-linking. In this study, we introduce an ionic cross-linking method for preparing anion exchange membranes (AEMs). Our approach involves spraying quaternary ammonia poly(N-methylpiperidine-co-p-terphenyl) (QAPPT) and Nafion solution from separate ports onto an ultrasonic atomization surface, enabling ionic cross-linking when sprayed onto a heated aluminum foil substrate. This method produces complete and uniform membranes with enhanced properties, including improved swelling degree (SD), water uptake (WU) and tensile strength. Notably, the 5% Nafion ion-cross-linked membrane exhibits ionic selectivity, with hydroxide ion conductivity of 25% faster than carbonate ions at 80 °C. The versatility of this multiport spraying technique allows for the preparation of ionic cross-linking membranes using various anion and cation exchange polymers, offering significant potential for advancing membrane material development.","PeriodicalId":504002,"journal":{"name":"ACS Applied Engineering Materials","volume":"3 11","pages":"4209-4217"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-10-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147901036","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Incorporating both proton sources and proton hopping sites into the framework of metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) offers a promising route to improve conductivity. In this study, a ligand substitution strategy was employed, adjusting both the rigidity of the ligand skeleton and the relative positions of the proton sources and hopping sites to tailor the MOF properties. Four ligands containing sulfonic groups (proton sources) and amino groups (hopping sites), that is, taurine (Tr), aminomethanesulfonic acid (AMSA), p-aminobenzenesulfonic acid (pASA), and 3-aminobenzenesulfonic acid (mASA), were used to modify MOF-808, yielding MOF-808-X (X = Tr, AMSA, pASA, or mASA). The proton conductivities of MOF-808-X and MOF-808 were investigated under 30%–100% relative humidity (RH) and 303–353 K. All four modified materials exhibited significantly higher proton conductivities than MOF-808. Among them, MOF-808-Tr reached the highest value of 1.95 × 10–1 S·cm–1 at 100% RH and 353 K. In addition, the modified materials showed enhanced stability against environmental changes. For instance, the conductivity change of MOF-808-pASA from 303 K/30% RH to 353 K/100% RH was only one-quarter of that observed for MOF-808. In summary, by integrating proton sources and hopping sites while tuning ligand rigidity and substituent positions, both the conductivity and the environmental stability of MOFs were effectively improved. This work demonstrates a practical structural modification strategy for enhancing the performance stability of proton-conducting MOFs.","PeriodicalId":504002,"journal":{"name":"ACS Applied Engineering Materials","volume":"3 11","pages":"4063-4073"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-10-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147892920","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this work, we developed two fluorine-free ABAs, SiO-PO4 and Branch-C20-PO4, and incorporated them into acrylic waterborne coatings. The surface properties and block resistance efficiencies of these coatings were systematically characterized. Notably, SiO-PO4 demonstrated exceptional surface activity and achieved effective block resistance even after a 12-day storage period. X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) analysis revealed that both ABAs migrated to and adsorbed on the coating surface during film formation, reducing cohesive forces generated by polar components and thereby enhancing block resistance. Excessive accumulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in inflamed wound tissues further exacerbates this issue by triggering efflux pump activation. To address bacterial resistance, this study aimed to mitigate ROS accumulation, thereby inhibiting efflux pump expression and enhancing antibacterial efficacy. Researchers synthesized MoS2-based nanocomposites (MoS2/ZnO/Cur designated as MZCs) loaded with ZnO and Cur into cross-linked structures using a hydrothermal method and combined them with photothermal therapy (PTT). To enhance functionality, a ROS-responsive hydrogel was developed by conjugating CGG with a ROS-responsive linker (TPA) and integrating the MZCs, yielding MZC@CGG-TPA. Electron microscopy revealed the internal structure of the hydrogel. Antibacterial assays demonstrated that MZC@CGG-TPA achieved inhibition rates exceeding 95% against multidrug-resistant (MDR) Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus, with biofilm clearance rates surpassing 90%. Photothermal performance testing indicated a photothermal conversion efficiency of 47%. Transcriptomic analysis revealed that MZC@CGG-TPA suppressed the expression of channel protein-related genes, downregulated the key regulator gene marA, and inhibited drug efflux pump activity. This enhanced the retention of antibacterial agents within bacterial cells and improved bactericidal efficacy. Under laser irradiation, the MZC@CGG-TPA hydrogel dressing significantly enhanced anti-infection efficacy and accelerated wound healing in an in vivo wound infection model.
