This problem was initially posed by Nandakumar [17, 22] and was first studied by Kiss, Pach, and Somlai [13], who showed that if [Formula: see text] is the smallest area isosceles triangle containing [Formula: see text], then [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] share a side and an angle. In the present paper, we prove that for any triangle [Formula: see text], every maximum area isosceles triangle embedded in [Formula: see text] and every maximum perimeter isosceles triangle embedded in [Formula: see text] shares a side and an angle with [Formula: see text]. Somewhat surprisingly, the case of minimum perimeter enclosing triangles is different: there are infinite families of triangles [Formula: see text] whose minimum perimeter isosceles containers do not share a side and an angle with [Formula: see text].","PeriodicalId":50323,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Foundations of Computer Science","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134975810","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"计算机科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Such problems can often be formulated as maximizing a monotone set function with cardinality constraints. In this paper, we consider a streaming model where elements arrive quickly over time, and create an effective, and low-memory algorithm. First, we provide the first single-pass linear-time algorithm, which is a a deterministic algorithm, achieves an approximation ratio of [Formula: see text] for any [Formula: see text] with a query complexity of [Formula: see text] and a memory complexity of [Formula: see text], where [Formula: see text] is a positive integer and [Formula: see text] is the submodularity ratio. However, the algorithm may produce less-than-ideal results. Our next result is to describe a multi-streaming algorithm, which is the first deterministic algorithm to attain an approximation ratio of [Formula: see text] with linear query complexity.","PeriodicalId":50323,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Foundations of Computer Science","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135482653","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"计算机科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This problem was posed as an open question by Bhore et al. (J. Graph Algorithms Appl. 2020). In this paper, we study this problem from the viewpoint of parameterized complexity, in particular, we develop fixed-parameter tractable algorithms for it. More specifically, we show that this problem parameterized by both the bound number [Formula: see text] of crossings per edge and the vertex cover number [Formula: see text] of the input graph admits an algorithm with running time in [Formula: see text], and this problem parameterized by both the bound number [Formula: see text] of crossings per edge and the pathwidth [Formula: see text] of the vertex ordering admits an algorithm with running time in [Formula: see text]. One of the main characteristics of cell-like membrane systems is their rooted tree-like structure, where a natural parent-children membrane relationship exists, and objects can travel through the membranes. Separation rules are used as a method to obtain an exponential workspace in terms of membranes in polynomial time. Inspired by cell meiosis, objects from the original membrane are distributed between the two new membranes. In this work, P systems with evolutional symport/antiport rules and separation rules are used to give a solution to SAT, a well known NP-complete problem. One of the advantages of this solution is the use of the environment as a passive agent.","PeriodicalId":50323,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Foundations of Computer Science","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135199629","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"计算机科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
