It is considered that the increase in the coupling strength between a cavity mode and an atom leads, first, to transition from weak to strong coupling and, second, to the ultra-strong coupling regime. In this paper, we refute this common opinion and demonstrate that the transitions between the coupling regimes occur in different sequences for the correlation functions of different orders. We show that for <jats:italic>n</jats:italic>-th order correlation functions, the transition to the strong coupling regime requires a coupling strength approximately <jats:italic>n</jats:italic><jats:sup>2/3</jats:sup> times greater than the one for first order correlation functions. In contrast, the transition to the ultra-strong coupling regime manifests in the dynamics of <jats:italic>n</jats:italic>-th order correlation functions at less coupling strength than in the dynamics of first order correlation functions. As a result, the measurement of high-order correlation functions makes it easier to observe the ultra-strong coupling in “cavity mode–single atom.”","PeriodicalId":501621,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Optical Society of America B","volume":"1402 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141866938","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Low-order harmonics were generated by interacting 32-fs pulses centered at the 2.2-µm wavelength with gases in the funnel structures. The driving laser was an optical parametric amplifier operating at 60-kHz repetition rate. When the peak intensity of the laser beam at the entry of the funnel reached 9.1TW/cm<jats:sup>2</jats:sup>, third-order harmonic signals were detected. The low limits of the enhancement of the driving laser intensity in 10- and 15-µm funnels were estimated to be 32.4 and 20.8, respectively.","PeriodicalId":501621,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Optical Society of America B","volume":"151 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141866940","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The suggested method based on the beam profile measurements allows correction of the data provided by spectra measurements. Using a simple semi-analytical model, we study the dependence of the transition numerical aperture on the pulse power and medium nonlinearity. The analysis shows that in condensed media the transition from the nonlinear to geometric focusing regime occurs at much tighter focusing than in air. Moreover, if the medium nonlinear refractive index is high enough, only the nonlinear focusing regime is observed even at numerical apertures close to one, which allows symmetric plasma channel formation.","PeriodicalId":501621,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Optical Society of America B","volume":"13 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141866939","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We first investigate these modes for different fiber structures including circular- and rectangular-core fibers as well as photonic crystal fibers. Significant photoinduced change of the refractive index under saturation of the fiber-optical absorption in the near-infrared range enables us to consider this medium as an effective optical Kerr (<jats:italic>χ</jats:italic><jats:sup>′′′</jats:sup>) medium. For pumping, it needs continuous-wave Nd:YAG laser power of 10-mW scale, but the saturation process has the characteristic time ≤1ms, governed by the metastable level lifetime in YDF. We investigate the nearly degenerate collinear configuration of the optical parametric amplification (OPA). Here we focus on unidirectional transformation of the initial amplitude modulation in the incident pump wave to the output phase modulation as a manifestation of OPA in a narrowband case. This effect results from the conventional coupled-wave equations for the signal and idler waves—if one considers them as the modulation sidebands. It can also be treated as a result of the self-phase modulation of the periodically modulated pump in the Kerr medium. OPA gain of about 0.64 with the net gain ≈0.29 was experimentally estimated for the utilized 2-m-long YDF in the frequency band ≈200Hz.","PeriodicalId":501621,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Optical Society of America B","volume":"46 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141866943","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Here we present an analytical approach, based on the approximate solution of the time-dependent Schrödinger equation, that reveals both the cavity formation and its control by the half-cycle pulses colliding in the medium. This approach allows the calculation of cavity properties in the weak-field regime without the need for complex numerical simulations. Beyond the approximate analytical solutions, our analytical results are confirmed by numerical simulations of the Maxwell-Bloch equations. Grating formation is also studied in the strong-field regime, where collisions of self-induced transparency half-cycle pulses occur. The results presented here reveal, to our knowledge, a new type of spatio-temporal photonic crystal in the form of micro-cavities in a simple atomic medium. The results obtained demonstrate the feasibility of attosecond optical switching in a simple atomic medium with half-cycle pulses.","PeriodicalId":501621,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Optical Society of America B","volume":"31 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141866946","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
