The internal uniform hydrostatic tension within the liquid inclusion and the pair of analytic functions characterizing the elastic field in the matrix are completely determined. Previous numerical work recently reported in the literature is reevaluated in this context by approaching it through the lens of asymptotic simplifications. This allows us to identify two distinct regimes characterised by qualitative differences in the corresponding eigendeformations; some simple approximate formulae for the critical eigenvalues are also proposed. Using the measured DCB compliance, the proposed analytical solution was employed to determine the initial delamination length and its propagation profile. Also, a finite element (FE) correction method was presented to establish a correlation between the delamination length and the DCB opening compliance. Similar delamination lengths were obtained from the analytical and the numerical methods. Consequently, the problematic delamination lengths generated from in-situ optical measurement were corrected using the two methods. The fracture resistance curves of the DCB specimen were also updated. Accordingly, the subsequent DCB FE modelling analyses, integrated with cohesive zone modelling or virtual crack closure technique, were able to generate practical predictions. Wildman","doi":"10.2140/jomms.2024.19.61","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.2140/jomms.2024.19.61","url":null,"abstract":"<p>An inverse fast Fourier transform (IFFT) algorithm is developed to solve initial value problems (IVPs) for wave propagation in nonlocal peridynamic media. The IFFT solutions compare well with solutions obtained using Mathematica’s NIntegrate function and are verified using a spherical Bessel function series solution. We solve a peridynamic microelastic IVP by using Floquet theory to determine a nonlinear dispersion relation for a periodically layered elastic medium and demonstrate that microelastic peridynamic IVP solutions can be used to represent the behavior of homogenized waves in periodic elastic media. A local-nonlocal peridynamic correspondence principle is identified, which enables direct determination of nonlocal Fourier transform domain solutions to IVPs; the correspondence principle only requires identification of the nonlinear dispersion curve for the material and does not require definition of a micromodulus function, although the latter is implicitly defined via an integral equation.
