The corrosion inhibition behavior of N-CDs on X65 steel and 7A04 aluminum alloy in HCl solution was systematically studied and compared using electrochemical measurements, weight loss test and surface analysis techniques. The results indicate that the synthesized N-CDs function as mixed-type inhibitors primarily inhibiting the anodic reaction, and they exhibit better corrosion inhibition performance on X65 steel compared to 7A04 aluminum alloy. The corrosion inhibition efficiencies of N-CDs increase and then decrease with concentration, and the extreme-value-phenomena of concentration appears at 100 mg/L, which is related to the stability and agglomeration degree of N-CDs in the solution. In addition, this study also compares and analyzes the corrosion inhibition mechanisms of N-CDs for both types of metals in HCl solution.","PeriodicalId":501120,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Materials Research and Technology","volume":"37 1","pages":"5070-5085"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147889233","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, owing to the significant surface inertness of aramid fiber (AF), the interface of the AFEP composite material is suboptimal, and the insulation performance is diminished, thereby limiting its further development and application. This study employs a mild hydrothermal synthesis method to create one-dimensional zinc oxide (ZnO) nanostructures on the surface of aramid fibers, enhancing the fiber surface activity. This improves the interface bonding between aramid fibers and epoxy resin, further boosting the composite material's insulation performance. The microstructure evolution of the fiber surface is verified through microscopic characterization, and the influence of different construction parameters (concentration, time) on the insulation performance. of the AFEP composite is investigated via electrical performance testing. The results demonstrate that the flashover voltage and breakdown field strength of AFEP composites increase by 54.4 % and 66.8 %, respectively. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations and molecular dynamics (MD) simulations reveal the mechanism of constructing ZnO one-dimensional nanostructures on the fiber surface to enhance the insulation performance of AFEP composites.","PeriodicalId":501120,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Materials Research and Technology","volume":"37 1","pages":"2271-2280"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-06-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147910224","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Experimental results reveal that as porosity increases, the static compressive strength of titanium foams gradually decreases, while the dynamic compressive strength under high strain rates (1000–4000 s−1) exhibits a significant strain-rate strengthening phenomenon within a specific porosity range. Energy absorption analysis demonstrates that titanium foam with 55 % porosity achieves the optimal specific energy absorption capacity (19.06 J/g) under impact compression. The observed variations in static/impact energy absorption performance across different porosity levels provide critical insights for optimizing the mechanical properties of titanium foams. Microscopic analysis was conducted to investigate the impact failure mechanisms of titanium foams with varying porosities, and the contributions of different microstructural factors to strain-rate strengthening were quantitatively evaluated. Dislocation strengthening was identified as the dominant mechanism, while the contribution from grain refinement strengthening was insignificant.","PeriodicalId":501120,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Materials Research and Technology","volume":"37 1","pages":"1390-1405"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-06-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147912634","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Inspired by rodent tooth enamel, this study successfully formed a layer of Fe 3+ -rich AIP on the outer layer of HAP nanowires by ion exchange between Fe 3+ and Ca 2+ within the HAP lattice. The thermal stability of Fe-HAP nanowires with Fe 3+ -rich AIP was enhanced. By bi-directional freezing of Fe-HAP nanowires with polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), rodent enamel-like nanocomposites (Fe-HEN) were obtained. Owing to the reinforcing and toughening effect of Fe 3+ -rich AIP, Fe-HEN exhibited a hardness of 1.66 ± 0.23 GPa, a Young's modulus of 48.8 ± 6.7 GPa in the longitudinal direction, as well as a hardness of 1.38 ± 0.16 GPa and a Young's modulus of 40.2 ± 3.0 GPa in the transversal direction. The flexural strength of the sample reached 153.5 ± 5.0 MPa, which is 2.9 times higher than that of samples without AIP, surpassing the performance of natural rodent enamel. The compressive strength reached 205 ± 4.3 MPa, representing a 1.5-fold increase over the sample without AIP and comparable to that of natural enamel. Compared to samples without AIP, Fe-HEN exhibits superior fracture toughness and crack deflection, better corrosion resistance, owing to the reinforcing effect of Fe 3+ -rich AIP at nanowire interfaces. This study demonstrates the incorporation of amorphous reinforced structures into the tooth enamel-like materials via ion exchange, offering a promising strategy for the development of high-performance multiscale composites.","PeriodicalId":501120,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Materials Research and Technology","volume":"36 1","pages":"7423-7432"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147897531","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Mechanical properties were assessed using Vickers hardness and three-point bending tests. The corresponding stress distribution and transmission path were analyzed using digital image correlation (DIC). Based on the obtained data, coarse-graining modeling were performed to further predict the mechanical behavior of nine sa-PICN models with porosities ranging from 10% to 51%. sa-PICNs with 25% (L group), 38% (M group), and 51% (H group) framework porosity were prepared. The L and M group exhibited Young’s modulus of 24.06 GPa and 17.98 GPa, respectively, similar to that of natural dentin. Vickers hardness of the L group (406.59 HV) was comparable to natural enamel (409.02 HV). The bending deformation was increased by at least 1.4 times after resin infiltration. Coarse-grained simulations revealed widespread cracking occurred with 10%‒15% porosity and enhanced crack resistance at 15%‒40% porosity. However, at 40%‒51% porosity, crack energy mainly dissipated through single large cracks. Predicted Young’s moduli modulus and fracture loads for 20% and 30% sa-PICNs were 29.16 GPa and 196.31 MPa, and 26.38 GPa and 174.63 MPa, respectively. sa-PICN with 20%‒30% ceramic framework porosity demonstrated biomimetic mechanical performance and improved crack resistance, suggesting their suitability for prosthodontic applications. Traditional preparation methods typically involve high-temperature sintering followed by the infiltration of organic substances. While these methods can achieve high strength, the uniformity and depth of organic substance penetration into the ceramic matrix were constrained by pore size, leading to an uneven distribution. Additionally, the interface bonding between the organic and ceramics was limited to physical bonding, which restricts the enhancement of fracture toughness. In this study, nacre-mimetic hydroxyapatite (HA)-Calcium carbonate (CaCO 3 )/sodium alginate (SA) layered composites were fabricated utilizing a combination of roll rolling and the sinterless characteristics of calcium phosphate bone cement (CPC). The SA contains oxygen groups that form bonds with Ca 2+ in the HA layer. The bending strength of nacre-mimetic HA-CaCO 3 /SA layered composites can achieve 9.04 MPa, which was comparable to that of human trabecular bone. Repeated roll rolling lead to a lamellar dispersion of SA in the composite, with an average thickness of 0.19 μm. The fracture toughness of the layered composite was 13.89MPa·m 1/2 , which was higher than that of cortical bone due to deflection extension path of the crack under bending stress, crack passivation, crack bifurcation and crack bridging. The layered composites exhibit excellent biocompatibility, promoting the proliferation and adhesion of osteoblasts. This characteristic was crucial for developing bone implant materials that match both the mechanical and biological properties of human bones.","PeriodicalId":501120,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Materials Research and Technology","volume":"36 1","pages":"7055-7068"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147918788","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The effects of LA on the hydration performance of β-HH under different alkaline conditions were investigated. Results indicate that at pH 6.82, with 0.5% LA added, the initial setting time of β-HH is 57 min and the final setting time is 110 min. At pH 11.03, with 0.5% LA added, the initial setting time extends to 166 min and the final setting time to 450 min. Characterization techniques, including scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), TAM-Air isothermal calorimetry, and thermogravimetric (TG) analysis, confirmed that in an alkaline environment, LA significantly inhibits the dissolution of β-HH, thereby suppressing the crystallization of dihydrate gypsum (DH). Additionally, molecular dynamics (MD) simulations revealed that LA selectively adsorbs onto the (1 2 0) surface of DH crystals. The adsorption mechanism involves electrostatic interactions between the charged functional groups of LA and calcium ions on the gypsum surface, as well as hydrogen bonding between the additional carboxyl and amino groups of LA and water molecules.","PeriodicalId":501120,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Materials Research and Technology","volume":"36 1","pages":"9629-9640"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147332686","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this work, Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene nanosheets were incorporated into a PI matrix via in-situ polymerization to fabricate high-performance Ti 3 C 2 T x /PI nanocomposites with uniform filler dispersion. The thermal conductivity of the composite reached 1.99 W m −1 K −1 at 20 wt% MXene loading—an increase of 123% over pure PI. The thermal degradation temperature at 10% weight loss (T d10 ) also improved from 577.6 °C to 587.0 °C. Additionally, both storage modulus (E s ) and glass transition temperature (T g ) increased, indicating improved rigidity and thermal resistance. Tribological tests at room temperature and 200 °C revealed that the addition of 5 wt% MXene effectively reduced the coefficient of friction (COF) by 6.52% and 5.37%, respectively. The wear rate was also significantly reduced—by 83.41% at room temperature and 39.66% at 200 °C. However, the γ-ray shielding performance of polymer-based composites in the high-energy range remains unsatisfactory. Herein, FLUKA Monte Carlo simulations capable of visualizing γ-photon transport behaviors are investigated in Bi 2 O 3 /PP and WO 3 /PP multi-layer composites with various layered configurations. The simulation results reveal significant anisotropic attenuation effects on shielding characteristics caused by the layered structure and the incident path of γ-photons relative to the interface position. Subsequently, single-layer, AB, and sandwich-like ABA composites with a fixed thickness of 2.0 mm are experimentally fabricated via melt-mixing and hot press methods. At 1332 keV, sandwich-like WPPBPPWPP composite (WO 3 /PP outer layers + Bi 2 O 3 /PP core) achieves linear attenuation coefficients and radiation protection efficiency of 0.31 cm -1 and 6%, respectively, which are 29% higher than those of single-layer composite. These improvements originate from the multiple scattering induced by interlayer interface. Additionally, layered configurations with externally placed high-density fillers (WO 3 ) and internally placed high atomic number fillers (Bi 2 O 3 ) further promote γ-photon attenuation in high-energy range. Experimental results validate the anisotropic shielding trends observed in MC simulations. Moreover, multi-layer composites demonstrate significantly improved energy storage capacity, thermal stability, and oxidation resistance while maintaining comparable to those of single-layer composites.
