This paper investigates the impact of organisational change performance of selected construction firms. The population consists of the executives and employees of five Nigerian construction companies: Phefa Construction Company Ltd., Abacus Building Services, Dumez Nigeria Plc, Enerco Nigeria Limited, and RCC Construction Company. The firms were chosen based on their inclusion on the Federation of Construction Industry’s list (FOCI). The parameters included size, active projects, geographic spread, and service portfolio. The total staff strength of the chosen construction is approximately one thousand, two hundred and four people (1204) and the stratification technique was first used to stratify the workers. Taro Yamane was used to draw a sample of 300 respondents, who were then statistically tested using Pearson Product Moment Correlation. The study discovered, among other things, a significant link between resistance to change and performance; critical factors for managing change will affect Performance; and change implementation will affect performance of selected construction firms. As a result, it was suggested that organisations identify the best change model for their own initiatives and then modify to fit the context. Organizations should collect data from multiple sources, especially when assessing competency gaps, and employees should take management-organized training programmes seriously.","PeriodicalId":499878,"journal":{"name":"Open Journal of Business and Management","volume":"90 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135798316","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As the financial markets continue to grow in complexity and digitalization, the behavior patterns and decision- making processes of individual investors are increasingly drawing the attention of scholars and market regulators. This study embarks from a quantitative finance perspective, theorizing on the potential application of machine learning in analyzing and predicting individual investor behavior. Despite the myriad influences on investor behavior—such as individual differences, market conditions, information factors, and psychological biases—we still identify common patterns in their behavior. Furthermore, we propose that machine learning technology holds significant potential for predicting the behavior of individual investors. This study presents new perspectives and methods for understanding and predicting the behavior of individual investors.","PeriodicalId":499878,"journal":{"name":"Open Journal of Business and Management","volume":"145 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135505504","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Black entrepreneurship has the potential to reduce the racial wealth gap by providing a means towards upward mobility and wealth accumulation in the African-American community. As Black entrepreneurs consider locating or expanding their businesses into non-Black communities, an important question emerges: will White consumers support Black-owned businesses in majority-White neighborhoods? To explore, this study investigates the impact of making the race of a business owner salient to White consumers in Concord, New Hampshire, a majority-White community. Through surveys of Concord residents, this research finds a strong inclination among White Concord residents to support Black-owned businesses in Concord. The findings suggest that would-be Black entrepreneurs seeking to establish businesses in majority White neighborhoods in New England may find success by, among other things, strategically marketing their businesses as “Black-owned” to White consumers in these areas.","PeriodicalId":499878,"journal":{"name":"Open Journal of Business and Management","volume":"53 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135705565","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Covid-19 pandemic appeared in Wuhan, China, gradually spread across the world in 2020, and it was acknowledged by the WHO as a public health emergency. This created challenges for the organisations to continue their operations and pretend the global equity market and investors due to the higher volatility of the stock market. The pandemic was followed by a financial crisis due to the loss of productivity and economic activity, along with negatively impacting future investment decisions. The study has incorporated research methods of positivism philosophy, deductive approach and descriptive design and collected survey data considering investors for IHI Plc. The correlation and regression tests reflected an understanding that the investor’s sentiments changed with the fluctuations in the financial performance of the company. However, an alternative hypothesis has been considered, thereby rejecting the null hypothesis where it reflected a pandemic effect on IHI’s financial performance as well as investors’ sentiments and participation.","PeriodicalId":499878,"journal":{"name":"Open Journal of Business and Management","volume":"95 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135494910","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The EM system’s general framework comprises a series of decision-making problems in three phases: pre-event forecasting and preparation, in-event response and evacuation, and post-event recovery, which reflect the leadership competencies required during and post-times of crisis and the roles envisioned to support their respective organizations. However, the communication issues, primarily technological-based, uncovered the need to understand how leaders collect, disseminate, and adapt critical information through understanding crisis type and community needs. Additionally, the emergence of intelligence EM systems emphasizes learning from previous experiences when a new emergency occurs by analyzing historical data of similar events or scenarios to provide improved forecasts for affected areas, populations, and, precisely, the demand for relief resources. Furthermore, the rapid progress of big data, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and the Internet of Things (IoT) permits the development of a prediction system for emergency occurrence and resource demand, thereby improving communication between leaders, agencies, and community members. The capabilities of AI techniques to make full use of acquired data and deal with imprecise or uncertain information are widely recognized, especially in forecasting the occurrence of emergency events and evaluating their impacts on the economy and society. Therefore, improving the existing emergency preparedness for a more robust emergency response and the effects accumulated remains ideal.","PeriodicalId":499878,"journal":{"name":"Open Journal of Business and Management","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135508039","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Nene","doi":"10.4236/ojbm.2023.116164","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.4236/ojbm.2023.116164","url":null,"abstract":"The main objective of this article is to explore and describe the impact of the Value-added tax (VAT) increase on Mobile Telephone Networks (MTN) performance by exploring the end-to-end telecommunication (telco) business process. For the nature of this research, there is limited research in both South African and international scholarship that seeks to explore an understanding of the full end-to-end telco industry where study would look at the complexity of telco strategies right from the product catalogue down to rate cards, price configuration, system capacity, network depletion rules, billing engines, and customer invoices. Failure to apply the correct VAT change to any of these elements will result in either over- or underbilling of customers. This is a serious problem because an undercharge influences the operator’s revenue, causing a loss, not just because of the 1% VAT increase. Damages can reach far beyond this: an overcharge may increase customer complaints and result in reputational risk that is not limited to customer churn. This article provides insight into how fiscal policy affects industries. The insights and practical experience gathered in the research field can be used for operational improvement, training, risk identification and control development in the telco industry. A mixed-method design was used with a case study approach. This article reports on the qualitative findings. Five main themes were identified after analysing the qualitative data, namely: the effect of the VAT increase on MTN’s performance, change management, change in business processes, the impact of an incorrect VAT rate on MTN’s system, and system or process configuration. The case studied and the primary data analysed to explore the impact of a VAT increase aftermath are limited to the South African telco industry. The change management risk exposure detected, root cause analysis and insights of this article highlight the pitfalls that the project managers, change management professionals, marketing, information system and technology teams need to avoid when performing network configurations and system updates in the telco industry. Over a decade there has not been any new VAT content in South Africa since in September 1991, the original general sales tax (GST) rate of 10% was replaced by the consumption form of VAT subsequently, was adjusted to 14% in 1993. This article provides new content with a close look at the telco industry to contribute and expand the existing literature since VAT and GST are important economic aspects and contributors to the government’s income.","PeriodicalId":499878,"journal":{"name":"Open Journal of Business and Management","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135659081","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study used a purposive sampling technique in collecting data from 200 respondents by administering a well- structured questionnaire. The partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) was applied to measure the reliability and validity of data and test the study’s hypotheses by using SmartPLS4. The empirical result shows that Fintech literacy has a significant and positive influence on customer satisfaction, and sustainable intention to use MFS. Likewise, customer satisfaction significantly affects sustainable intention to use MFS. The study reveals that customer satisfaction has a partial mediating effect on Fintech literacy and sustainable intention to use MFS. This study theoretically contributes to the current body of knowledge on Fintech literacy and mobile financial services literature. The outcome of the study can also be helpful to the MFS providers for taking initiatives in improving the Fintech knowledge of customers, their satisfaction and the sustainable usage intention of MFS.","PeriodicalId":499878,"journal":{"name":"Open Journal of Business and Management","volume":"2015 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135750949","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
