Investigations into the effectiveness of textbooks for teaching communicative skills, mirroring real-life conversations, show that English Language Teaching (ELT) textbooks often lack clear and thorough explanations of English conversational dynamics (Berry, 2000; Burns, 1998; Cane, 1998; Grant & Starks, 2001). According to the available literature on EFL/ESL textbooks, speech acts, and other pragmatic elements are largely neglected in both quality and quantity (e.g., Vellenga, 2004; Salazar Campillo, 2007; Neddar, 2010). Therefore, this study examines how textbooks cultivate pragmatic competence and evaluates the pragmatic content in EFL textbooks used in Moroccan high schools from 2006-2007. It aims to assess the depth and quality of pragmatic information covered in these textbooks. In addition to concentrating on metapragmatic details, the study discusses register, illocutionary force, politeness, appropriateness, and usage, as well as how textbook authors present speech acts. However, the study findings reveal that the selected textbooks provide insufficient pragmatic information. This underscores the necessity of supplementing EFL textbooks with more authentic materials and ample meta-pragmatic information. It is also essential to consider pragmatics during the textbook design process and enhance teachers' abilities to incorporate them into their classrooms.","PeriodicalId":492268,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Arts and Humanities Studies","volume":"18 6","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141011743","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The purpose of this research is to describe the roles of stakeholders and disaster management strategies in the Jeneponto District. This study used a qualitative approach, where data were collected through interviews and observations. The results showed that natural disaster management in Jeneponto Regency involved the active role of many stakeholders, including government and NGOs, traditional leaders, and community leaders. This confirms the importance of the role of stakeholders in handling natural disasters in Jeneponto District, both in terms of coordination, resource allocation, and development of mitigation strategies. Efforts are needed to strengthen community preparedness, involve various related parties, and respect local culture in disaster management efforts. The results also show that the social construction of disaster management involves a deep understanding of how disaster management is understood, constructed, and implemented in the community. Although many mitigation strategies have been implemented, there is still a need to strengthen community preparedness and improve coordination between the stakeholders involved. Some effective methods in disaster management include preparedness education, community involvement in mitigation planning, and utilization of technology for early warning systems. This article contributes to policy recommendations for improving adaptation and mitigation capacity at the local level. Practical implications include developing training programs, improving security infrastructure, and increasing community awareness of disaster risks.","PeriodicalId":492268,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Arts and Humanities Studies","volume":"19 11","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140082244","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Utilizing a combination of literature review, theoretical framework, hypothesis testing, data analysis, and interpretation, the study examines the complexities surrounding the public sector's approach to immigrant support. The research reveals a general preference for cultural competency initiatives over technical support for micro-financing among local government employees. Statistical analysis indicates a significant, albeit complex, association between attitudes towards cultural competency training and support for technical assistance in micro-financing. A multinomial logistic regression suggests a negative relationship between support for cultural competency training and the likelihood of supporting micro-financing programs, highlighting a potential disconnect between cultural understanding and financial support for immigrants. The study discusses the implications of these findings for policy-making, program design, and future research, emphasizing the need for a balanced approach that integrates cultural sensitivity with economic support. The limitations of the study, including sample representation and the challenge of establishing causation, are acknowledged, underlining the necessity for cautious interpretation of the results and further research in this area. The paper concludes by highlighting the importance of considering both the cultural and economic needs of immigrant communities in public administration and support programs.","PeriodicalId":492268,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Arts and Humanities Studies","volume":"48 12","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139775841","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The past decade has been a booming period for mythological-themed animation films in China, during which a multitude of outstanding works emerged. Creators have drawn inspiration from traditional Chinese culture, creating uniquely Eastern mythologies. Innovation can be felt in the portrayal of narrative characters, the configuration of temporal and spatial structures, or the use of traditional thinking to tell stories. This has revitalized Chinese animation, instilling it with cultural confidence, and has also poured new energy into traditional Chinese culture.","PeriodicalId":492268,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Arts and Humanities Studies","volume":"15 3","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139524853","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
