In this study, the generalized power mean inequalities with a negative parameter are re fi ned using an optimality theorem on the generator function. The optimality theorem requires the study of different cases for the exponents and yields a re fi nement of the inequality in a neighbourhood of the vectors for which the equality occurs. Then, these local inequalities are generalized to all positive vectors by an appropriate selection of parameters. This paper studies the stochastic evolution equations with fi nite delay. By means of the compact semigroup theory and Schauder fi xed point theorem, the existence of square-mean S -asymptotically periodic mild solutions is obtained under certain growth conditions. In addition, using the contraction mapping principle and Gronwall integral inequality, the uniqueness and global asymptotic stability of the square-mean S -asymptotically periodic mild solutions are discussed. The main results obtained in this article extend and improve the corresponding ones of Chen and Sung (Stat. Probabil. Lett., 92: 45–52 (2014)), Sung (Stat.
