This article investigates the shortcomings of BMI, such as its disregard for body composition, age, gender disparities, and potential ethnic biases. By focusing on alternative indicators of health, such as waist-to-hip ratio, body composition analysis, and cardiorespiratory fitness, we highlight the need for a more holistic health assessment. Emphasizing personalized healthcare, this article advocates for integrating various health metrics to gain a deeper understanding of an individual's well-being, leading to more accurate diagnoses and tailored interventions. Ultimately, adopting a multi-dimensional approach beyond BMI offers a promising avenue for enhancing healthcare practices and improving patient outcomes.","PeriodicalId":489477,"journal":{"name":"National journal of community medicine","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135408305","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Materials and Methods: A subset of data collected during National Family Health Survey-5, comprising of 7,24,115 women, 15–49 years of age was analysed to identify key predictors of hypertension, using Probit Regression Model (PRM) which was run separately for rural and urban women. Results: Overall prevalence of hypertension among women of reproductive age group was 11% (10.4% and 12% in rural and urban areas respectively). 5% and 13.41% of women were obese and 1.2% and 2.6% were diabetic in rural and urban areas respectively. Obese, uneducated, rich women and those on medications showed higher prevalence, while women consuming milk, eggs, chicken, fruits, and vegetables daily showed lower prevalence. On using PRM, significant predictors of hypertension were increasing age, rural residence, pregnancy, increasing weight, diabetes, illiteracy, access to medical insurance, and indulgence in alcohol and smoking. Conclusion: Findings from the study contribute to the body of evidence favouring multifactorial causation. Hypertension awareness should be promoted especially among rural residents, older women, with emphasis on intake of balanced diet with less consumption of sodium and increased intake of fruits and vegetables.","PeriodicalId":489477,"journal":{"name":"National journal of community medicine","volume":"97 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135407615","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Treatment adherence is major challenge, ADRs being one of the main causes of poor adherence. Early identification and addressing of ADRs can improve adherence, reducing associated morbidity and drug resistance. With introduction of daily FDC regimen in India, we intend to study incidence of ADRs and their determinants among Pulmonary TB patients who are on FDC daily regimen. Methodology: Newly diagnosed drug-sensitive PTB patients aged 18 years and above were recruited. A pretested questionnaire was administered and patients were followed up to document ADRs. Causality and severity were assessed using the WHO-UMC scale and Hartwig’s severity assessment scale respectively. Results: Among the study participants’, 95 (78.5%) developed any ADRs. Incidence rate was 13.2 (6.98–19.22) per 100-person month follow-up with GI symptoms being most common. Increasing age [OR=4.7(1.6–14.8)] and weight [OR=5.1(1.3–16.2)] were found to be significantly associated with ADRs. All ADRs were classified as ‘probable’ and ‘mild’ in nature according to WHO scale and Hartwig’s severity assessment scale respectively. Conclusion: Occurrence of ADRs is common, most of them are mild, and occurring in intensive phase. Hence, early identification and appropriate counselling during intensive phase is critical.","PeriodicalId":489477,"journal":{"name":"National journal of community medicine","volume":"49 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135407020","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study attempted to identify the barriers to reporting by the private sector. Methodology: The study was conducted in Kerala's Ernakulam district. The design of the study was cross-sectional. The end–users, who are from the private sector, were the participants of 28 in-depth interviews in the study. Results: The new reporting system has increased private sector involvement in information exchange, all 78 private hospitals (100%) were reporting to NHM Ernakulam. But the completeness of reporting was not uniform. Major barriers identified were the lack of IIS interoperability with the hospital information system (HIS) being used by the private hospitals, variance because of lack of training of staff entering the data, and the unavailability of dedicated staff for reporting data. Conclusion: Addressing these barriers could improve the reporting of routine vaccination data from the private sector.","PeriodicalId":489477,"journal":{"name":"National journal of community medicine","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135408817","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
