Their accounts demonstrate how their professional, political, and community trajectories are crucial in the construction and promotion of indigenous knowledges and worldviews, and in building connections between academic theorizations and local practices. Indigenous women’s academic contributions support epistemological diversity as foundational to advancing studies of the pluriverse and provide elements for the decolonization of thought. The exercise of writing and thinking about the pluriverse from four different experiences – a Ch'ol, a Nahua, and a Mestiza-, with commentaries by a male Ecuadorian Mestizo scholar – have created a pluriversal space, which is also an exercise of decolonizing academia, bridging alliances, and fostering intercultural dialogue. WOMP, lasting from 1968 to the 1990s, aimed to generate more inclusive academic dialogue on world order reforms and develop a programme of global education to build support for them. Insights from the project include ones for structuring a dialogue on global normative concerns that is diverse but not too diffuse. It also offers a model for promoting globally normative counter-narratives in ‘globoskeptical’ times – the Cold War then and the current era of right-wing populism. And, it directs attention to the possible importance of focusing on global-scale institutional reform alongside individual motivation to assume moral duties across national borders. Contrary to prominent conceptions that centre on preconceived country groupings or states’ variable attributes, such as the size of their territory, economy, or armed forces, our study foregrounds the influence that states gain from their position in international networks. We begin by developing an ideal-typical theory of bridges and hubs. We then employ these concepts to discuss empirical examples, examining the extent to which our cases embody these ideal types.
