Based on this ground a Cost Benefit Analysis (CBA) of a proposed new development (establishment of soda ash facility) in the Lake Natron area in Tanzania was carried out to inform decision regarding the proposal. The costs and benefits of this project were compared with that of two other alternatives namely the ―Business as Usual‖ (BAU) and ―Sustainable Ecotourism‖ (SE). The results of analysis showed that at the present levels of soda ash prices and investment costs the benefits of ecosystem conservation outweigh the benefits of soda ash mining. We furthermore argue that Lake Natron is part of an important network of ecosystems and should not be viewed as a separate entity altogether. The Lake’s ecosystem needs to be managed wisely by introducing only livelihood initiatives or developments that are linked to the survival of wildlife which it supports, including the lesser flamingo. Sustainable ecotourism is one of such initiatives. Its benefits spill over beyond the local and national boundaries to beneficiaries at regional and international levels. We therefore underscore the needs for different stakeholders to share the costs of developing a sustainable eco-tourism industry in the Lake Natron ecosystem. This can be achieved through negotiations with regional and global partners for more resources.","PeriodicalId":47498,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Electronic Commerce Research","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":3.9,"publicationDate":"2014-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"66539621","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A descriptive survey using field observation data sheets and household questionnaire-based survey with 141 respondents were used to collect data from February 2006 to May 2006. The study assessed local knowledge, attitudes and practice for malaria control, as well as key environmental parameters that facilitate human-mosquito interactions. The results demonstrated that perception and degraded environment had positive and significant association with malaria prevalence in Mbale Municipality (p < 0.01). These results suggest that public health education on environmental management for health could result in increased local knowledge be- coming a basis for creating a joint malaria control platform, with communities playing proactive role at the forefront of any interventions for malaria control.","PeriodicalId":47498,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Electronic Commerce Research","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":3.9,"publicationDate":"2014-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"66539030","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We intended to inform the debate on whether the Pay ment for Ecosystem Services (PES) model was an effective tool to ach ieve sustainable watershed management in the study a rea. We estimated the potential of the PES model and evaluated the factors which influence willingness to pay (WTP) for the Uluguru watershed conservation and WTAC for upstream co mmun ities. We estimated the potential revenues fro m water charges for do mestic uses in Morogoro Municipality, that could be used to fund the Uluguru watershed program at TZS 31.99 million (US$ 21 326.67) per month or TAS 383.92 million (US$ 255 946.67) annually. The upstream resource managers, who are the major custodian of the Ulu guru watershed would need to be compensated about TZS 100 000 to TZS 400 000 per ha per year depending on the type of co n- servation practices. Overall the results of analysis show that the current pitfalls notwithstanding, there is huge potential for the mo del to reverse the trend of ecosystem degradation in the Eastern Arc Mountains (EAM). To address the existing huddles, the practitioners of the model and local policy makers must work on keeping the public or the watershed conservation beneficiaries informed of the various environmental services they benefit fro m the PES model because they were not aware o f the concept of PES and associated benefits. The study revealed that, a regulatory framework to support compensation schemes for ecological services was required to facilitate the imp lementation of the model at a broader scale.","PeriodicalId":47498,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Electronic Commerce Research","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":3.9,"publicationDate":"2013-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"66539940","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The model was developed on a sample of 1048 consumers who responded to a questionnaire linked to the website of a large German multi-channel retailer. The study identifies perceived privacy concerns as the strongest influence on trust in the e-shop, followed by perceived reputation and perceived size of the offline stores. We further differentiate between respondent groups based on their familiarity with the retailer’s e-shop and stores. In general, trust increases over familiarity with the retailer whereas the influence of perceived privacy has the same importance over different levels of familiarity. This research may be of interest to multi-channel retailers, who could use the findings to better align their offline and online marketing strategy. In particular, the results could be used to improve the website design and the delivery options of a multi-channel retailer. Internet-only retailers may consider an increase of marketing efforts in the offline domain.","PeriodicalId":47498,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Electronic Commerce Research","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":3.9,"publicationDate":"2007-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70659379","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
