Some plants including Rosemary can higher of accumulate up to 20 000 times this element concentration in the environment. Consumption of highly fluoridated rosemary can contribute fluorosis and other body dysfunctions. Aims: This study aims to evaluate and optimize the extraction procedure of fluorides from the dried leaves of the plant, and compare the fluoride levels in collected samples. Methodology: nine of Rosemary samples from different countries including Libya, southern Serbia, Vojvodina and Istria were investigated in this study. Fluoride levels was determined potentiometrically using the calibration curve, via fluoride-selective electrode method based on lanthanum fluoride monocrystal. The sensitivity of the method was defined on the basis of 3SD criteria 3 using excel software. Results: fluoride concentration in investigated samples was varied. Libyan samples contained (1.8ppm) which is higher than other samples that ranged between 0.07 to0.49 ppm. However, all samples found to have fluoride concentration ranged with the recommended levels and less than the toxic or lethal doses. Conclusion: The modified potentiometric method using fluoride-selective electrode techniques for fluoride determination is highly effective with detection limit of 10 -9 mg/100g and is recommended in quantification of fluoride in Rosemary and other plant or spice samples. However, Results obtained by this study indicated that all samples contained different levels of in which all do not exceed the daily intake. Recommendations. Rosemary may offer an essential levels of required fluoride for daily intake. Further studies are recommended especially in areas with high fluoride content either in soil or via air pollution especially where rosemary is highly consumed to avoid fluorosis.","PeriodicalId":473874,"journal":{"name":"Libyan journal of medical research","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136369470","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Manifesting of recessive defects requires the mutation inheritance from both parents, whereas dominant disorders require the mutation inheritance from one parent. This study aimed to investigate the rate of genetic disorders among Libyan participants with genetic disorders, to investigate their most causative risk factors and the level of awareness of these diseases. This cross sectional study was carried out through a questionnaire with a set of questions about genetic diseases distributed both on paper and electronically. 256 participants have generic disorders from different regions of Libya were involved. The participant's answers were collected from July 2021 to February 2022. The findings showed that the most prevalent genetic diseases were blood disorders 13.7%, CI=13.3-15.4), Down syndrome (13.3%, CI=9.5-17.4), autoimmune diseases (12.1%, CI=8.2-16.0), hereditary cancer (9.0%, CI=5.1-12.9) and congenital malformations (7.4%, CI= 4.1-10.9). The results showed that consanguineous marriage was a risk factor associated with the incidence of genetic diseases (P= 0.000, CI= 3.34-3.48) and there was a high rate of second-degree consanguineous marriage for the parents of participant patients (55.0%, n=141). Moreover, there was a family history of genetic disease (53.5%). The findings showed a lack of awareness of genetic diseases and their nature among the participants’ families. Data from this survey should be taken into account by the health authorities to outline a policy to prevent these genetic disorders in the country","PeriodicalId":473874,"journal":{"name":"Libyan journal of medical research","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136369547","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This resulted in improvement in morbidity and mortality, in particularly those related to infectious disease. However, measures such as the national performance gap indicator reveal an underperforming health system. In this article, we discuss aspects related to the Libyan health system and its current status including areas of weakness. Overcoming current failures and further improvement are unlikely to occur spontaneously without proper planning. Defining community health problems, identifying unmet needs, surveying resources to meet them, establishing SMART, objectives, and projecting administrative action to accomplish the proposed programs, are a must. The health system should rely on newer approaches such as management-by-objectives and risk management rather than the prevailing crisis-management attitude. Also, the Coronavirus crisis that affected the entire world was one of the crises that contributed to diagnosing the current reality of the health system in Libya, and since the National Center for Disease Control (NCDC) was responsible, since the spread of the epidemic until now 2019-2023, to count the actual number of patients and injured. These objectives have been prioritized based on their potential impact and the LCDC's capacity to effectively address them. To ensure the strategy's success, regular monitoring and evalution will be conducted to assess the effectiveness and impact of implemented interventions. Adjustments and refinements will be made based on the findings. By implementing this comprehensive health strategy, the LCDC endeavors to address the pressing health challenges in Libya and achieve sustainable improvements in public health outcomes.","PeriodicalId":473874,"journal":{"name":"Libyan journal of medical research","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136369659","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
