Aflatoxin B1 is believed to be the most essential member of this family of mycotoxins, due to its carcinogenic properties in humans and animals. However, there are many strategies to prevent mycotoxin contamination in which some of them are based on the use of natural compounds that may able to minimize the toxin synthesis pathways. Aims: The current work aimed to identify specific compounds from Green Cardamom that expected to interfere with aflatoxin production pathway. Methodology: The adapted method was based on the incubation of fungal culture with different concentrations of the aqueous extraction of Green Cardamom. Results: The aqueous extract of Green Cardamom was able to inhibit Fungal growth and Aflatoxin B1 production by the toxigenic strain of Aspergillus Flavus in a dose-dependent manner. Discussion: the reduction of Aflatoxin B1 production was significantly higher (94.34%) in comparison with other plant extracts such as Caffeine (50%), and reduced fungal growth with an average of (4%) compared to control. Conclusion: Aqueous Extracts of Green Cardamom show an obvious reduction in inhibition synthesis of Aflatoxin B1 by toxigenic Aspergillus strain, the adapted method was effective, but even further investigation is still recommended.","PeriodicalId":473874,"journal":{"name":"Libyan journal of medical research","volume":"120 46","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139614924","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Retention is an essential aspect of orthodontics and can be viewed as the final stage of treatment. It is necessary to maintain an optimal esthetic and functional occlusion following orthodontic therapy. Aim : The objective of the article is to acknowledge the significance of maintaining the outcomes of orthodontic therapy and to assess the various techniques used to fabricate fixed and removable appliances for retention. Materials and Methods: The present article evaluates the different protocols for lingual fixed retainers, as well as removable retentive appliances such as Hawley, Begg, and vacuum-formed retainers (VFR). Removable appliances have been used for retentive purposes for a long period of time. Bonded fixed retainers were introduced in the 1970s, and they have several advantages over removable retentive appliances, such as better esthetics, the absence of patient cooperation, and suitability for lifelong retention. Fixed retainers can be of conventional or digital type. Conventional fixed retainers can be fabricated and attached directly or indirectly to the teeth using a transfer tray. Moreover, bonded retainers can now be digitally manufactured using computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD-CAM).","PeriodicalId":473874,"journal":{"name":"Libyan journal of medical research","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136369466","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A significant portion of consumers refused the COVID-19 immunization as a result of false information regarding the vaccine being circulated on social media. Aims: This study aimed to evaluate the acceptance rate of COVID-19 vaccination among Libyan health sector workers. Method: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 200 participants employed in both the public and private health care sectors in the north-west of Libya. A self-administered questionnaire written in Arabic was the study instrument used to collect data. SPSS Version 25 was used to statistically analyze the gathered data. Result: The overall acceptance of the COVID-19 vaccine was 45%, with a significant difference between government and private places of work (p = 0.008). Individuals used social media websites as sources of their information (OR 0.078, 95% CL 0.013–0.471) were less likely to accept the vaccine in comparison to those with internet search websites. Conclusion: Libyan heath care worker's hesitancy to receive the COVID-19 immunization is a major problem. The acceptance of vaccines by health care workers was influenced by numerous factors. The most significant of these are the lack of information from reliable sources, a lack of confidence in the vaccine's safety, and concern about potential complications in the future. It must pay more attention to conduct educational programs that will improve health care worker's attitudes regarding receiving the COVID-19 vaccine by raising awareness and providing reassurance","PeriodicalId":473874,"journal":{"name":"Libyan journal of medical research","volume":"144 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136369552","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
