The current research focuses on the in vitro evaluation of Trigonella foenum-graecum L., and Nigella sativa L., traditionally used in the treatment of urolithiasis by turbidity and titrimetric assay. Three different concentrations (1.0 mg/ml, 2.0 mg/ml, and 5.0 mg/ml) of the plant extracts were tested in each assay. The methanolic seed extracts of Trigonella foenum-graecum and Nigella sativa at 5.0 mg/ml exhibited a significant percentage of inhibition of calcium oxalate formation by turbidity method as well as percentage dissolution of calcium oxalate crystals by titrimetric method. The results of test groups displayed a near match to the standard drug Neeri used at 0.1mg/ml. This study has been primary evidence for Trigonella foenum-graecum and Nigella sativa as potential contributors to anti-urolithiasis.","PeriodicalId":472296,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Biological and Pharmaceutical Sciences Archive","volume":"6 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141795965","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this important issue, the factors primarily responsible for obesity relate to the diet and physical fitness of young people, in addition to biochemical/genetic factors that contribute to the development of obesity. Incorrect dietary choices and, in general, the adoption of an unhealthy lifestyle start very early, with the family playing a pivotal role. The already high number of obese adolescents has a negative impact on their lives and society in general. One category of measures/interventions that could be taken to prevent childhood obesity is related to the family environment. Therefore, this thesis will study the existing literature in order to understand what obesity is, the factors that contribute to its occurrence and the ways in which the family can influence the behavior of adolescents and be a means of treating obesity (behavior, diet, physical activity, sleep, etc.). A review of the literature was conducted, using authoritative health databases (PubMed and Scopus), to identify published articles on family interventions that contribute to the treatment of adolescent obesity. The systematic review showed that the family holds considerable influence over its members, which, when dysfunctional, can lead to the acquisition of excess weight in its members. Intervention programs within the family environment showed a positive effect on weight loss in adolescents. The involvement of all the family members in these programs (parents and teenagers), not just teenagers, had even more positive results. Intervention programs targeting the family are able to change the daily habits of family members, resulting in adolescents acquiring healthy eating habits and increasing their physical activity, leading to the loss and/or maintenance of normal weight.","PeriodicalId":472296,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Biological and Pharmaceutical Sciences Archive","volume":"2 10","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141795943","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The wide spread of the virus in recent years has posed a threat to public health. EV-D68 typically causes respiratory illness, which can be mild (like a common cold) or more severe. The studies have demonstrated the potential for EV-D68 to induce neurological disease. Epidemiologic data support an association of EV-D68 with the acute flaccid myelitis (AFM)/ acute flaccid paralysis (AFP), although the mechanism remains unclear. AFM a rare, but serious neurological condition. Children are at the greatest risk of severe infection and most cases occur in children under the age of 5. EV-D68 can be detected in respiratory specimens and rarely in cerebrospinal fluid.","PeriodicalId":472296,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Biological and Pharmaceutical Sciences Archive","volume":"6 7","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141795961","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Whey protein in its natural state is extremely unstable and hence, many modification techniques have been designed to enhance WP stability for diverse food applications, each with a unique set of characteristics. This paper reviews physical, enzymatic, and chemical methods for modifying whey protein, as well as innovative strategies. The traditional physical methods include thermal processing, texturization, freeze modification, high moisture extrusion, while the enzymatic procedures primarily consist of enzymatic hydrolysis and enzymatic cross-linking, and the ternary system is one of the most commonly adopted chemical processes. Among the novel processing techniques, those most commonly experimented include, high pressure shearing, ultrasound treatment, high hydrostatic pressure, pulsed electric field, and cold plasma technology. This article summarizes the mechanisms of various modification methods of WP structure, texture and other functional properties and their effects on whey protein characteristics, as well as future prospects of development of whey protein modification techniques and its food applications.","PeriodicalId":472296,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Biological and Pharmaceutical Sciences Archive","volume":"8 26","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139591645","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
