Utilizing the theoretical framework of eco-criticism and drawing on the tripartite division of ecology proposed by Chinese scholar Lu Shuyuan, this paper provides an in-depth interpretation of the novel Shuggie Bain in three dimensions of natural ecology, social ecology, and spiritual ecology, aiming to reveal the ecological imbalance and human alienation in Glasgow, a major industrial city in Scotland during the 1980s. This interpretation will also provide readers with a new research perspective for analyzing Shuggie Bain, enhancing their understanding of the rich ecological implications of it.","PeriodicalId":471519,"journal":{"name":"Scholars international journal of linguistics and literature","volume":" 15","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140988372","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, teachers’ discourse in the classroom has an important impact on learners’ language acquisition. Specifically, on the one hand, teacher talk can organize and manage classroom teaching. On the other hand, it is conducive to students’ language input. At the same time, senior high school is a key period for students to learn English. The impact of excellent teacher talk on students’ language acquisition is beneficial. As a result, at this stage, it is vital to study teacher talk. Based on the input hypothesis proposed by Krashen and the interaction hypothesis proposed by Long, this article selects a senior teacher and her class in Zhengji senior high school in Jiangsu Province as the research object, and uses the method of naturalistic observation to observe and record the teacher’s discourse in the classroom. Then, through the analysis of the data, the current situation of English teachers’ classroom discourse in senior high schools is investigated in three ways in this thesis: the quantity of teacher talk, questioning methods and feedback methods, analyzes the existing problems, and tries to offer some sound counsel. Through research and analysis, this article draws the following conclusions: 1. Teachers are fully aware of the main role of students in classroom discourse, are changing the traditional teacher-centered teaching model, and strive to make students more involved in classroom activities. 2. Teachers should reasonably use the method of questioning in the classroom to combine display questions with referential questions, so as to cultivate students’ innovative thinking ability. 3. Teachers should use a variety of feedback methods to continuously stimulate students’ learning motivation and increase the number of possibilities for kids to develop language.","PeriodicalId":471519,"journal":{"name":"Scholars international journal of linguistics and literature","volume":"9 6","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139845987","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study employed the Contrastive Analysis Theory (CA). The data collection technique adopted in this study is unstructured elicitation oral interview method. The method of data analysis adopted in this paper is purely the contrastive method. The data collected in the Gokana language were glossed in the English language. It was ascertained that compounding is one of the morphological operations that result in the realization of new word in the Gokana and English languages. It was also observed from the data presented in this paper that the words that are joined to form a compound may or may not belong to the same word class or parts of speech. This study further found out that compounds in the Gokana and English languages can syntactically be classified into endocentric, exocentric, coordinative and appositional compounds. More so, it was affirmed that unlike in English language, endocentric compounds in the Gokana language has a head initial and modifier final structure. This study recommends that L2 (English language) teachers in the Gokana speech communities should be grounded in the morphological operations that result to exocentric compounds, semantic and non-semantic compounds in the English language so as to be able to assist the L2 English learners.","PeriodicalId":471519,"journal":{"name":"Scholars international journal of linguistics and literature","volume":"113 37","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139615440","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
