{"title":"A Suggested Method for the Musical Notation of Basic Arabic Percussion Instruments","authors":"Mohammed Zuhdi Al Tashly, Nedal Ahmad Obeidat","doi":"10.35516/hum.v50i5.6111","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.35516/hum.v50i5.6111","url":null,"abstract":"Objectives: The study aimed to propose a standardized method for musical notation of Arabic percussion instruments, following the model of other musical instruments, as well as to provide examples of the method for notation of Arabic percussion instruments. Methods: This study follows the developmental approach, which involves studying a specific phenomenon and searching for solutions in order to develop effective outcomes for teaching. A musical notation was developed for the basic Arab percussion instruments used in modern Arab music ensembles, including the dhol, katem, riq, and tabla. Proposed models were developed in four lines, and each instrument was used in a way that corresponded to the selected rhythm, using a musical staff consisting of five lines and four spaces. Abbreviations and symbols were also developed to facilitate reading of the fast-paced shapes. Results: The results showed that a special rhythmic notation line can be assigned to each of the basic Arabic percussion instruments in modern Arab music bands. The rhythmic notation of the group of Arabic percussion instruments is represented in four lines. Methods: The paper is based on two approaches: the historical approach and the analytical approach, the first helps in tracing the intellectual roots of Neo-Zionism trend, while the second helps in dividing the phenomenon in question in order to identify its causes, analyze its vision's results, and explain its impact on the identity of the Israeli state. Results: The Neo-Zionism trend presented a set of coherent values and ideas towards the issue of the Jewish state. In reality, Neo-Zionism was able to achieve the following: Firstly, the idolization of its visions. Secondly, the legitimization of its ideological visions. Thirdly, the legalization of its ideology and political approach. Although the trend presented a coherent intellectual perspective on the nature of the identity of the Israeli state, its religious vision led to a deepening of the identity crisis in Israeli society and created a new crisis between the nature of the identity of the state and the democratic system in Israel. Furthermore, it aims to highlight the influence of the pandemic on family cohesiveness and stability. Methods: A qualitative technique was used, being effective in extracting information on the influence of Covid-19 on Jordanian family relations (BTS Academy, 2018). The members of the study sample were sixteen Jordanian couples having children living in Amman. They were interviewed during November 2021. Results: The results reveal that Covid-19 has a significant impact on social relations among family members, because of drastic and dramatic changes in the social and economic lifestyle. These changes contributed to the increase of violence between spouses. Surprisingly, the results show that, during the pandemic, the level of disagreement and conflict between parents and children was reduced. The results also indicate that Covid-19 had an influence not only on family interactions, but also on family atmosphere, namely the stability and coherence within that atmosphere. Methods: This mixed-methods study consisted of two phases: quantitative and qualitative. In the first phase which was a quasi-experimental design with two groups (experimental and control), all students responded to an adapted vocabulary test that has multiple choice and multiple matching questions. Through focus group interviews with some participants in the experimental group, qualitative data on students’ perceptions of the effectiveness of explicit teaching of vocabulary strategies were collected. While the quantitative data were analysed using descriptive statistics and Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA), the interviews were transcribed and analysed thematically. Results: The results of the study revealed that the explicit method of teaching vocabulary strategies was effective in improving students’ vocabulary knowledge in terms of both meaning recall and recognition of academic words. The sample included (83) professors—(59) male and (23) female—from various public and private universities. Results: These findings address the study's questions and validate its hypotheses. Key outcomes include: fostering trust between the populace and ruling elite, ensuring peaceful power succession through fair elections, guaranteeing public freedoms, and respecting human rights as major political trends. In terms of economics, notable trends include enhancing citizens' quality of life, safeguarding the national economy, creating job opportunities, and curbing unemployment. Social priorities involve protecting the family structure, promoting diverse opinions, and combating crime and drug proliferation. In addation, a descriptive-analytical methodology was utilized to describe the forms of the mitāl verb, analyze them, and provide interpretations based on contemporary phonological principles. Results:. The deletion of the ‘waw’ from the present tense verb form (يَفْعِلُ) is caused by the heavy phonological sequencing, characterized by the juxtaposition of semi-vowel (y) with the short vowel (ɑ) in the first syllable, alongside the semi-vowel (w) in the first segment and the short vowel (i) in the second segment. Conclusions: The study concludes that grammarians' explanations for this issue are different, and that the rationale for the deletion of the ‘waw’ in certain patterns of the present tense (mitāl alwawī) verb is predominantly a phonological defect, stemming from the sonorous weight resulting from phonological sequences within the verb's segments.","PeriodicalId":470438,"journal":{"name":"Dirāsāt","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135085932","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
