The anxiety score of parents who had contracted COVID-19 or whose children had contracted COVID-19 was higher than that of parents whose children had not contracted. The parents' main concerns were related to whether they, their child, or a family member would experience COVID-19 complications if their children contracted COVID-19, hospitalization during the pandemic, transmission of the virus to children, and the long-term impact of the pandemic on children. Protecting parents' mental health is essential because of its effects on children's mental health. Therefore, focusing on prevention methods and providing accurate information during and after the pandemic to improve parents' knowledge is essential. Primary caregivers (N = 47) completed validated measures of COVID−19 exposure, impact, and psychosocial distress between July 2020 and January 2021. Caregivers reported several pandemic-related disruptions to daily life (COVID−19 exposure) and a negative impact of the pandemic on caregiver mood (70%) and anxiety (72%). A subset of caregivers reported a positive impact of the pandemic on physical wellbeing and family functioning. Family psychosocial distress was associated with higher COVID−19 exposure but not COVID−19 impact. Results highlight family resilience as well as groups with unmet psychosocial needs. This study utilized a qualitative secondary analysis to investigate whether and how children and youth disclose their illness to their peers. A thematic analysis was undertaken to analyze 21 interviews completed by children and youth who experienced cancer and were from two summer camps in Ontario, Canada. This resulted in four themes including talking about cancer, thinking about cancer, attitude toward illness, and social environments and relationships. The findings affirm that illness disclosure is complex and has several contributing factors.","PeriodicalId":46607,"journal":{"name":"Childrens Health Care","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.9,"publicationDate":"2023-04-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43253725","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Youth may modify their environments and participation to avoid sensory stimuli, inadvertently increasing functional disability. Unfortunately, there are no established measures examining sensory-related avoidance behaviors in youth with headache. This study sought to empirically validate the PhotoSensitivity and PhonoSensitivity Avoidance Behavior Scales in 232 youth undergoing multidisciplinary headache evaluation. Exploratory factor analyses revealed two PHOTO-SABS factors and a single PHONO-SABS factor. Both measures demonstrated strong internal consistency, construct validity, and criterion-related validity. The PHOTO-SABS and PHONO-SABS appear to be psychometrically sound measures of sensory-related avoidance behavior in youth with headache.","PeriodicalId":46607,"journal":{"name":"Childrens Health Care","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.9,"publicationDate":"2023-03-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41724601","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
