This study expands the limited knowledge of factors underlying treatment-seeking behavior. We sought to understand: What encourages or deters Ukrainians from seeking mental health treatment? In addition, among those who chose to seek treatment, what influences the type of treatment sought (conventional or alternative)? Alternative treatment is defined as treatment or counseling provided by spiritual advisers or healers, and conventional treatment is defined as formal treatment or counseling provided by mental health professionals or other health professionals. Using the 2002 Ukrainian version of the World Mental Health Composite International Diagnostic Interview—the only dataset of its kind available for a country that emerged from the former Soviet Union—this study explores the predictors of treatment-seeking behavior for mental health services. Results indicate that Ukrainians diagnosed with depressive, anxiety, or substance use related disorders are more likely to seek treatment, while those diagnosed with Intermittent Explosive Disorder are not. Current physical health issues are also associated with an increased likelihood of seeking treatment. Among treatment-seekers, individuals with stronger religious beliefs are more likely to seek alternatives than conventional forms of treatment. These findings contribute to the small body of research addressing treatment-seeking behavior and can further inform underlying patterns in treatment gaps in Ukraine.","PeriodicalId":46170,"journal":{"name":"INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF MENTAL HEALTH","volume":"52 1","pages":"179 - 195"},"PeriodicalIF":2.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47275664","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We conducted an umbrella review of systematic reviews and meta-analyses to provide a unified perspective of the effectiveness of peer support in mental health. This umbrella review was developed in line with PRISMA recommendations for reporting of systematic reviews and meta-analyses. The review protocol was registered with PROSPERO’s International Prospective Register of Systematic Reviews (CRD42020205540). The AMSTAR 2 instrument was used to assess the quality of included reviews. While the treatment effects of peer support are broad-based, a greater number of reviews found improvement in recovery-oriented outcomes compared to clinical and psychosocial ones. No major adverse effects were associated with peer support. In contrast to traditional treatments, peer support is a relatively under-explored field and possibly as a result, many of the studies are low in quality. However, the potential for peer support to improve outcomes in mental health conditions cannot be ignored. More rigorous research should be conducted to fortify the evidence base, taking into consideration peer-patient characteristics, implementation factors and cultural nuances.","PeriodicalId":46170,"journal":{"name":"INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF MENTAL HEALTH","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":2.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46552550","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, this study aimed to (1) ascertain mental health symptom profiles in women at high-risk for PPD, and (2) determine group differences in symptom configuration by cognitive-interpersonal variables. The sample for this study included 1013 postpartum women, who were identified as being at high-risk for PPD during the first three to four months postpartum. A Latent Profile Analysis (LPA) was performed to determine the number of mental health profiles. Significant mean differences on covariates across profiles were also tested, using the BCH approach. Results from the LPA revealed three profiles: (1) “Moderate Mental Health” (moderate depression/anxiety, moderate positive mental health); (2) “Good Mental Health” (low psychopathology, high positive mental health); and (3) “Impaired Mental Health” (high depression/anxiety, low positive mental health). These three profiles differed significantly by levels of emotion regulation, psychological flexibility, maternal self-efficacy, and partner relationship satisfaction. Altogether, these findings provide crucial evidence for three heterogeneous patterns of mental health symptoms in women at high-risk for PPD. This clinical variability stresses the relevance of taking symptom constellations into account for personalized prevention and treatment.","PeriodicalId":46170,"journal":{"name":"INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF MENTAL HEALTH","volume":"52 1","pages":"239 - 259"},"PeriodicalIF":2.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41681441","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, and despite its importance to psychiatric reforms, very little has been written on actual responses to the COVID-19 pandemic in community psychiatry and psychosocial rehabilitation settings. Fifty-two mental health professionals from thirteen countries in Latin America and the Caribbean were interviewed in May and June 2020 and shared their opinions on the state of psychosocial rehabilitation services and programs during the first one-hundred days of the COVID-19 pandemic. Simple quantitative measures were added to a thematic analysis of responses. The results indicated that the disruption of group activities deeply affected psychosocial rehabilitation services, non-core activities (e.g., food and medication supply) became the most relevant aspects of these programs, shifting to remote mode proved to be a significant hurdle for many psychosocial rehabilitation service users, and long-term effect on rehabilitation services is expected by almost 90% of interviewees.","PeriodicalId":46170,"journal":{"name":"INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF MENTAL HEALTH","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":2.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46305691","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
