This study aimed to compare the diagnostic accuracy of the conventional pathology and static telepathology systems. Eighty-two cases that had been selected randomly from 4 pathology centers in the city of Kerman were diagnosed by a pathologist, first based on light microscopy and then after 2 months based on static images (2 images per case) captured by a Nikon 50i microscopic camera. The images were sent to the pathologist via e-mail. The diagnostic accuracy of the telepathology system was calculated. The light microscopic diagnoses were concordant with the telepathologic diagnoses in 71 of 82 reviewed cases. Different diagnoses of 7 cases were due to the images captured from the inappropriate location of the slides. The diagnostic accuracy of the telepathology system was 86.5%. The results of this study showed that static telepathology is very accurate and can be widely used in Iran. However, efficient implementation and use of telepathology require paying attention to different issues such as educational, legal, ethical, financial, and security and observance of the standards related to this field.
","PeriodicalId":46018,"journal":{"name":"Health Care Manager","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1097/HCM.0000000000000227","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"36269206","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The prevalence of HPV is increasing in females aged 14 to 24 years. Assessing allied health students' knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors regarding HPV was performed using a 34-question survey. The survey was in four sections: general information, measuring knowledge of HPV and the vaccine, HPV vaccine, and HPV screening and diagnosis. Physicians were noted by 31.6% of the participants as the first individual who gave them information about HPV. There were 46.4% of the participants who stated that HPV education came from a school nurse. Data were also collected to determine their perceived susceptibility to oropharyngeal cancer and awareness of emotions toward and intentions to receive an oral cancer examination in order to design tailored messages for promoting oropharyngeal cancer prevention on college campuses. Two hundred ten baccalaureate students in nonhealth majors from a public southeastern university were surveyed. Descriptive statistics were calculated, and multiple regression analysis was conducted to determine the predictors of knowledge of oral/oropharyngeal cancer and the HPV and intentions to be examined. Results indicated most were unaware of oropharyngeal cancer, did not understand the purpose of an oral cancer examination, and could not affirm they had received one or had one explained to them. Results also indicated poor understanding of some of the signs and risk factors of oropharyngeal cancer, especially HPV. In addition, oral/oropharyngeal cancer knowledge and negative emotions were predictors of examination intentions, confirming current behavioral theories that postulate rational decisions require collaboration from both cognitive and affective systems. Recommendations are offered for tailored educational communications and strategies about oropharyngeal cancer on college campuses.
","PeriodicalId":46018,"journal":{"name":"Health Care Manager","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1097/HCM.0000000000000225","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"36249801","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The use of clinical simulation as a teaching-and-learning strategy has significantly increased within nursing education. Unlike some colleges, this university had a dedicated simulation laboratory with two high-fidelity simulators; however, there was no clinical simulation program to use this equipment. The expensive simulation equipment sat unused because of the lack of funding for dedicated faculty, lack of a champion to implement, shortage of faculty time, minimal knowledge of the use of high-fidelity simulators, and a lack of curriculum integration. The purpose of the project was to create a simulation program, including faculty development and curriculum integration of simulation-based experiences. The framework of the program was based on the International Nurses Association of Clinical Simulation and Learning \"Standards of Best Practice: Simulation.\" The high-fidelity simulation program grew from 0 simulation encounter per year to greater than 250 per year from the onset of the project. Faculty accepted high-fidelity simulation as a new teaching strategy and incorporated a minimum of at least one simulation-based experience within their courses. Simulation has been integrated successfully into the current curriculum. Students and faculty have positively evaluated simulation as an effective teaching/learning strategy. Each semester has seen an increase in the number of simulations, types of simulations, and acuity of simulations offered in clinical courses for students.
","PeriodicalId":46018,"journal":{"name":"Health Care Manager","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1097/HCM.0000000000000217","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"36293633","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Inconsistencies and incomplete documentation can occur if workflow is not standardized especially in cases with interdisciplinary involvement. Documentation for patients undergoing magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with anesthesia services was examined and revealed an opportunity for improvement to avoid financial losses. A preprocedure checklist to improve documentation and standardize workflow was implemented. We compared documentation from preintervention MRI to postintervention MRI with anesthesia services. Documentation that met the reimbursement requirements increased from 5% in the preintervention group to 90% in the postintervention group after the preprocedural checklist implementation. A cost estimate showed a reduction in potential revenue loss from preimplementation to postimplementation groups. The standardization of workflow with the aid of checklists helped meet the documentation requirements for adequate reimbursements and reduced the risk of potential reimbursement losses from payors.
","PeriodicalId":46018,"journal":{"name":"Health Care Manager","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1097/HCM.0000000000000222","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"36249800","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These are practical approaches that can be used in both overall strategic planning and in day-to-day management of health care institutions. As the 340B program expanded, controversy centered on which entities have benefited from the program. Many health care organizations sold 340B drugs to well-insured patients at full price and have thus been financially rewarded. Amendments to the program have permitted 340B providers to use contract pharmacies to dispense 340B medications, furthering the debate over which stakeholders are benefiting from the program. The purpose of this study was to determine which stakeholders benefited because of the 340B Drug Discount Program and what have been the drivers of recent changes to the program. The study used a literature review. One database aggregator and six academic databases were used to collect 70 total sources. These sources were reviewed and reduced to 39 sources, which were used in the written research. Of these, 20 sources were used in the Results section. Research showed that 340B eligible entities and contract pharmacies have financially benefited from the 340B program. Patient benefit has been indirect, as qualified providers have expanded service offerings and increased access to health care services. Regulatory reform, as well as profit potential, has driven the expansion of 340B as more providers have expanded eligible service lines. Although the goal of the 340B program has often been misconstrued, direct financial benefits to eligible providers have allowed for this expansion of access.
","PeriodicalId":46018,"journal":{"name":"Health Care Manager","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1097/HCM.0000000000000220","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"36222159","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In these times of uncertainty and turbulence, we look to leaders who create a sense of purpose, who generate feelings of trust and optimism, and who tap the passion, talent, and efforts of those so essential to the success of the organization and of the people it serves. Our research suggests that becoming the leader whom people look to and admire requires an active commitment to responding to 5 essential leadership challenges. These are (1) creating a sense of purpose, (2) devising means for aligning the actions of the followers with that sense of purpose, (3) establishing a context that enables others to behave in a way that is consistent with the vision and values of the organization, (4) ensuring that the work that is done provides meaning to those engaging in the work activities, and (5) adding to the sum of everyone's knowledge through learning through reflective actions.
