Methods: A total of 226 patients with CAP admitted to the Emergency Department of Zhujiang Hospital, Southern Medical University, Guangdong, China, between March 1, 2021, and March 1, 2022, were enrolled. The patients were grouped into two groups: mild CAP (n=175) and severe CAP (sCAP)(n=51). Patients' characteristics and laboratory data were obtained. ROC curve and the value of the area under the curve (AUC) were used to evaluate the predictive values of HBP, ALB, WBC, CRP, and PCT. Results: WBC count, CRP, PCT, HBP, creatinine, and D-dimer were higher in the sCAP group, while ALB was lower in the sCAP group (P<0.05) than those in the mild CAP group. The AUCs of WBC, CRP, PCT, HBP, and HBP+ALB were 0.633 (95% CI: 0.545-0.722, P<0.05), 0.635 (95% CI: 0.542-0.729, P<0.05), 0.705 (95% CI: 0.619-0.791, P<0.05), 0.809 (95% CI: 0.736-0.883, P<0.05), and 0.889 (95% CI: 0.842-0.936, P<0.05), respectively. Conclusions: HBP+ALB has a higher predictive value than single HBP, PCT, CRP and WBC used alone for the early assessment of CAP.","PeriodicalId":45984,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Acute Disease","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135799459","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Methods: This prospective observational study was conducted in a tertiary care center in south India. Causes of injury, types of pelvic fractures, the associated injuries, and outcome at the time of discharge were recorded. Results: A total of 140 patients were included in this study. Most patients were classified as type A (n=62), followed by type B (n=48) and type C (n=30). A total of 112 patients were injured due to road traffic accidents, followed by a fall from a height (n=23) and a fall from a heavy object (n=5). Most subjects had facial injuries (n=99, 70.7%), followed by head injuries (n=51, 36.4%). Five percent of the patients were expired, 12% left against medical advice, and 83% were discharged. Conclusions: The incidence of pelvic fractures presenting to the Emergency Department is relatively high in India. Road traffic accidents are the primary cause of pelvic fractures and associated facial and head injuries. The outcomes demonstrate the need for improved prevention strategies and comprehensive management protocols to reduce mortality.","PeriodicalId":45984,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Acute Disease","volume":"83 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135799834","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Methods: This was a hospital-based prospective, observational study. Various biochemical tests viz. complete blood count, random blood sugar, liver and renal function tests, creatine phosphokinase, and electrolytes were performed. Patients were assessed based on the Peradeniya Organophosphate Poisoning scale. All the patients were followed till the end point like recovery/death. Results: Out of the 100 patients, 72% were males and 28% were females. The majority of the patients were farmers and 21 to 30 years of age. Suicidal was the most common manner (92, 92%). Based on the Peradeniya Organophosphate Poisoning scale, 47% were mild, 34% moderate, and 19% severe. Serum creatinine, creatine phosphokinase, serum glutamic-oxaloacetic transaminase, serum glutamic pyruvic transaminase, and alkaline phosphatase levels showed a significant correlation with severity. Conclusions: Some biochemical indicators such as creatine phosphokinase, alkaline phosphatase can be used as prognostic markers of organophosphorus poisoning. The Peradeniya Organophosphate Poisoning scale can be used for assessing severity of the poisoning.","PeriodicalId":45984,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Acute Disease","volume":"91 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135799460","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Methods: Demographic data, histopathological studies, and laboratory results of the patients who were admitted to the emergency department with a complaint of abdominal pain between January 2020 and June 2022 and were hospitalized with the diagnosis of acute appendicitis for operation by general surgery were examined. Simple appendicitis and complicated appendicitis groups were compared in terms of parameters according to their histopathological examinations. Results: A total of 220 patients who met the inclusion criteria were included in our study. Mean SIRI levels were found to be significantly higher in the complicated appendicitis group than in the simple appendicitis group [6.60 (4.07, 14.40) vs. 3.50 (2.20, 6.80); P=0.002]. Similarly, SII levels were found to be significantly higher in the complicated appendicitis group compared to the simple appendicitis group [2 514.50 (1 132.25, 5 388.00) vs. 1 207.00 (571.50, 2 089.00), P<0.001]. The power of SIRI and SII to indicate complications was higher than white blood cell count and C-reactive protein (area under the curve: 0.753 and 0.786, respectively). Conclusion: SIRI and SII could be used to indicate complications in patients with acute appendicitis.","PeriodicalId":45984,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Acute Disease","volume":"12 1","pages":"23 - 28"},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41625239","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
